Yes, according to his twitter feed, he's going to replace torches already in the environment with lanterns.

That's good, i would hate to have to replace the hundreds of torches... crap I'll have to make hundreds of lanterns now. I think I'm going to make a warehouse full of torches so they all turn to lanterns come Halloween.  ;D

So, I need your guys help. I've looked everywhere, and tried different approaches. However, I'm still stuck.

The problem:

Minecraft.net is blocked at my work. I work at a school, but I got the ok to setup a minecraft server for some students during there off hours.
I have bought the game, and downloaded it at home on a laptop.

I can play in offline mode, and can connect to my server. But since it's offline mode you can only have "Player" and it will kick the person off is someone else tries to connect.

Now, I don't want to pirate the game. I have bought it like I said, but I need a way to change the names of the "Player" on the local server.

I have found a way to do that since the name is client side (quick memory editor).
So, all is fine, EXCEPT, the lab I work in are all macs -_-

I can't find anything, be it a good memory editor for mac, or a server mod to change the clients names.
Until they put in LAN play, I need another option.

Do you guys have any ideas? This is eventually going to turn into a tech club, so I could buy licenses for all the users. It won't do me any good if I can't get to the authentication server.

Please, I'm out of ideas. Can you guys think of anything? Thanks :)

Have you considered talking to your school's network administrators to get it unblocked?

It's school distract level. The school is cool with it, but I'm not sure if they would be. Since they block all games, I don't think it would go over well. :(

[edit]

Before you ask, yes, I could host a minecraft classic server. But with out the craft in minecraft... it's kind of pointless.

They might just have to play single player for now, unless you guys can think of something.

In the 'server.properties' file, you can turn user authentication off, so the server doesn't verify usernames on the Minecraft.net site. While that could allow people to impersonate each other, or an admin, it could allow you to host locally, I think.

I think you still run in to the same issue because nobody is logging in to the server with their names, so everybody connects as 'player' the last player in is the only one that gets to play. How about a nice game of chess?

Why does it have to be on steam? Why not just buy it?

Because I only buy PC games off of steam nowadays.

Especially because they track my gameplay time and have great support and I get to boost my e-errr, ego?

Oh and christmas sales.

I have already given the argument as to why it doesn't need to be on steam.

You've said this like three times, you're loud, contribute nothing to this thread since you don't play this, annoying, and complain for attention. I do not like you, please, do not further interact with me.
No, no, he did. In the everything else section, at least. Officially, this makes him king.
