It's not griefing, it's warfare.  Not everybody is going to be friendly in survival mode, because they stand to gain from your destruction.

There isn't anything they couldn't gain through their own work though. Gaining stuff in Minecraft isn't exactly hard.

It's a matter of ease.  Is it easier to go find a large supply of diamond yourself, or take it from your neighbour?  Makes things more interesting.

Oh, man. Every duplicate crafted, no wrench. It'll probably be to at least 80 by morning, too.

Yes it is completely random when crafting any recipe.
Yeah, [Kishmond] came back from Africa, but the ponies have him now.

Notch may be able to make the land generate in such a way that a particular resource is more available in one region than another.
I'm also gonna figure he'll be adding more resources, and more ways for them to be consumed.

The only way we're gonna have our cool trades and conflicts is if there is scarcity. Can't accomplish your goals because you lack the materials or resources? Well, your neighbor might have them. See if he'll make a trade. Won't trade? Then take it forcibly.
If you reeeeally think you need it that bad anyway. Just remember, it's all fun and games until people realize you're gonna play the raging warmonger card every game. Say what you will about the rules of survival multiplayer, but people won't think it's all so exciting if there's a good chance they're gonna get raided and killed every time they get a meager settlement going.

Eh, but don't mind me. I look forward to it as much as any of you guys. We'll just have to see how it plays out when it's out. Ah, and if you read Notch's blog, that could be soon..ish.
Maybe.

I dug a 3x3 shaft under Can Town all the way to the bottom and have found almost no coal at all, and no caves. None. I guess even stuff like this has regional variance.

that could be soon..ish.
Maybe.

He said he did "all the boring stuff" related to multiplayer in a day. I don't even remember what the boring stuff was because it was boring, but it seemed like a lot of work to get done in a day!

Yeah, [Kishmond] came back from Africa, but the ponies have him now.

**EDIT**
I checked the thread over on 4chan... oh my god it's so great. And the poor guy manning the deck over at the Wiki is just getting his ass handed to him.

Where is the Aspergite page? When I went to it all I saw was the normal Cuprite page.
