Mongak Plague
« on: April 30, 2009, 07:31:15 pm »
The Mongak species went about their days, unknowing that they were about to be wiped out, or at least come close...
I'm not revealing the Mongak body appearance, anatomy, tech level etc to add to the challenge.

Your cell awakes in a red place.  It looks around and splits, and splits some more.
You make a map of the area from the cells reports.  You seem to be on the tip of a very large protuberant red thing, probably about a millimeter high..

Upgrade our senses and continue scouting. Before we start committing to any specific upgrade path we should probably figure out what we are dealing with. How does the Mongak immune system work, what's their physiology, do they have any unique biological systems that we wouldn't anticipate that might be advantageous to effect in some way? These are all questions we don't have an answer to, so we should continue replicating and scouting.

Upgrading our senses obviously would help for scouting.

Your cells replicate and scout further, and seem to discover that the red thing you started on is not unique.  There seem to be many of these red things.
Some of your number were destroyed by an acidic substance that seems to secrete from the red thing's cells.

Create a new faster strain.

Your cells create a new strain which is faster, allowing you to map out a wide area.
You seem to be on the inside of a spherical organ, which has an inside ccoated in villi-like food consumption devices.  There is one large hole leading out of it, and the villi-like things lead through small tubes to various other parts of the body.  You have as of yet not specified a part of the body to move to and thus you are still inside this organ.

Head towards the brain and we should get the ability to anchor ourselves onto other cells.

You don't know where the brain is, but you figure that the absorbing red things may lead you to it.  You send some cells through the red things.  Very quickly, they are shot at high speed through a pressuriezed tube.  Your mapping skills seem to indicate, from where the cells were shot, a more clear map of your location.
So far, places that you have been to seem to consist of a central digestive organ, with five different things coming out of it.  All five appendages sticking out of the digestive organ are identical, and seem to consist of vessels carrying nutrients to various muscles, and at the very end of each appendage, some sort of lumpy neural organ.  This means that, effectively, it has five brains.  Weird!
The vessels seem to all be connected to some sort of ring-shaped pumping organ.  More vessels leading out of that pumping organ lead to some sort of organ that produces cells that, as far as you know, are completely useless.  It seems to also have the equipment to pump these cells outward, but you do not know for what purpose.  You could use the hole through which these useless cells are pumped to exit the creature.  You have scouts of your Origin Strain in all mentioned places.
You still do not know where the big hole leads.

Sorry, I just didn't think this needed a lot of explaining, though I guess I can explain.

Moving where I chose to move, the place I felt was most likely it's 'heart', had two reasons. The first is because it puts us in the hub for what basically amounts to a travel network for us, allowing us to send some of us wherever we want in the creature from there. The second was because I decided it was too tedious to try and eventually manipulate all five 'brains' directly and as such decided on a different way.

Living in the heart we can eventually create stimulants or other chemicals that we will send through the bloodstream to cause various effects later. Maybe numbing pain, increasing aggression, suppressing fear or some such.

Though I suppose it would also be a good place if we decided to straight up attack the Mongak itself, damaging the 'heart' would probably be very deadly as well. Now that I think about it, this would also mean we are more based on the circulatory system of the Mongak and as such would be spread by blood transfusions, cuts, and other such things.

::Edited:: Got to start proofreading these closer instead of skimming after I finished typing!
Increasing senses is because moving where we are going to move will likely mean scouts spread out farther into the creature to get more knowledge about it, and why not get better senses so those scouts will have more detailed reports?

You transform the Pumping organ into a hub for reproduction and increase your vibration-detecting senses.
You can now gain more detailed reports.  You can ask for a more detailed report of any body part, and will now recieve one of the pumping organ:
The pumping organ seems to consist of an outer ring of purple cells that tranforms methane into a substance high in energy.  Where it recieves this methane from is unknown.  It then seems to feed this energy to small cells that it sends through the body in blood.  The vessels then send the empty cells to an inner ring, where they are send to the outer ring for refilling.
If you could get yourself that high energy substance, you could increase your abilities...

Upgrade the ability to absorb the high energy substance in place of the small cells. Start attaching yourselves to the small cells when hungry, then as the small cell goes through the outer ring to be refilled with the high energy substance we absorb it instead. When full we anchor back on to the inner ring until hungry again. Rinse and repeat.

Our first symptom has formed-Tiny Fatigue.  As a result, we have been focused on by the body's immune system, though only with a passing interest.
Several of our cells were killed by a highly acidic substance that seems to have been sprayed from strong cells originating in a small organ near the pumping organ.

Upgrade senses and start mimicking the appearance of the energy substance carrying cells.

I hope to eventually mimic the 'blood cells' of the Mongak in all superficial ways, hopefully to the point where we can fool the immune system into actually believing we are blood cells. That will mean not only are we safe from the immune system but that, and this is the awesome part, the immune system will actually protect us! It will also make us harder for any doctors to notice us as well.
