It's cheesy, generic and stuffed with gore. That's why it's great, as long as you don't even think about comparing it to the book.

Comparing it to the book is liking comparing Jesus to Hitler.

Movie 1 -Hokey but entertaining.

Movie 2 -Two things worth seeing

but she dies early on, the rest isn't suitable for a bad Sci-Fi channel flick.

Movie 3 -Better than 2, I hope they paid a fortune for Blalock, she was the only talent, Only worth watching for free.

The book has almost nothing to do with the movies, and what there is in common has been raped and abused by Hollywood that it would make you cry.

I've only seen the first one, and I wasn't in the soundest state of mind at the time.  For most of the battle scenes I was yelling at the tv about the lack of vehicle support for the infantry.  A freaking dirtbike would be an improvement.  I guess that's somehow a point of the movie, but whatever.  Oh, and when the guy with metal hands gets maimed and asks to be put out of his misery... and they shot him in the chest?  Since when does a punctured lung count as a mercy killing?

Season 1 of Lost (at least the 1st few episodes) clearly weren't part of basic training. That poor marshall and that Idiot Sawyer.

*exactly one person dies*
RETREEEEEEAAAAAAT!

I'm not kidding

Also Inkling, they shot him in the chest because A) The heart is there and B) They were aiming for the head but as shown throughout the series, they have no marksman skills whatsoever.

"Ok listen now troops, What we have here is basicly an entire planet full of bugs. They swarm with thousands over the landscape. No, we will not nuke them. We will not send every nuke we have down there while we are facing extinction. Vehicles you say? Are you insane? We need our vehicles here. I dont want to walk back home. Then what are we sending you say? Infantry. Yes, you heard me right. infantry. Thousands of bugs armed with razorsharp appendages versus 100 space marines with a light machinegun. Looks like a good plan to me"

No, it doesn't make any sense, but it's still a kickass movie.

He clearly subverts the message of the novel, which I guess is the opposite of an adaptation. Verhoeven didn't even read the book but he understood what it was about and the pro-military message probably made him angry, so he made a movie mocking Heinlein. His anti-military stance is very obvious in Blackbook, a movie he made recently about the Dutch resistance.

Nazis, which should really have been your first guess anyway.

I mean it would have taken literally five seconds to look it up and *lurkrant*.

So, Starship Troopers. So dumb it makes arguing on the internet look intellectually stimulating. I watched ten minutes of it and loathed it solidly.
Not a winner anymore.

It's from the director of Starship Troopers, I was expecting resistance to an alien invasion or zombie outbreak or something like that.

I'm trying to make up a great analogy for why I love this movie...but it's really hard. Could be the soap opera actors posing as determined warriors to be(did they know they were playing stereotypes?). Could be Neil Patrick Harris. Could be the still amazing effects(how the hell did they manage that in 97?) Could be the ultraviolence, or the subversion of so many tropes... I don't know. I guess if you don't like it, you don't like it. I can't argue that it's a good movie, I just know it's probably very close to what the director wanted.

Oh, and visit IMDb more before you make statements like that.  :P
