Paint Programs
« on: March 17, 2009, 10:49:23 pm »
I just recently found a rather great program called Open Canvas. It's like Painter Essentials but a little more like Photoshop in function. It's features are also better than painter too. It costs 60-80 bucks to buy, but I hear a 2.0 version of it is free.

Open Canvas Website

The reason why I like it is for the Poster Color brush, with gives me some nice thickness control with pressure sensitive tablets. Perfect for making outlines as I like them.

What do you like about the paint programs that you use?

Theres Paint.NET, which is free. It has most of the features of photoshop/paintshop pro and having used Paintshop pro before, it was just familiar. Plus it's vastly better than MSpaint.

I've also heard of GIMP (which is free as well I believe), but haven't tried it myself.

I use GIMP currently. It does most of the things I need in a paint program but it can be difficult sometimes.

Same here. It's good at some things and others... well... it sucks at... badly.

Painter IX works well for me. It's not as feature-heavy as Photoshop, so sometimes I need to other one. Painter is great for just that though, painting. Photoshop's brushes aren't that good unless you really know how to use them.

Yea, but MSPaint tends to be TOO simple. Paint.NET kind of straddles the line between the two, bieng simple enough to use quickly but still having the versatility of Photoshop without getting really complex.

Plus, there are tons of plugins for Paint.net, which make it even more useful.
