BetterSpore - Spore Mod

What is BetterSpore?

BetterSpore is a community made mod which has been used by thousands of people. It attempts to make spore a better and more enjoyable game, we are now extending this goal to include new content for spore.


Its been a long wait, but the new version of BetterSpore is just over the hill. This will be the largest change ever with new additions and changes to everything. One of the prominent features will be all the hidden cell parts, the grox parts and over 10 community made parts. We have also extended our space tools to include 10 new tools which have animation never before seen in the space stage. To see some of what BetterSpore has to offer watch this YouTube video:

Better Spore Features:
- All the hidden cell parts for you to use in the creature stage
- All the hidden grox parts for you to use in the creature stage
- Over 10 new custom parts with complete textures for you to use in the creature stage
- Over 10 new items created by xerox with stunning graphics and new effects
- Major changes to the balance of the civilization stages
- Extended Creature and Tribal stages

Q&A


Question: Will these new parts be uploadable to the sporepedia?

Answer: Sadly it will not be able to, however we are hopeful we can come up with a agreement with Maxis on getting them past the filters.


Question: Will creatures with the new parts be able to save?

Answer: At the moment some of the grox parts and all the cell parts do not save properly, and we are continuing to look into this. However if we are unable to fix the issue we will be releasing a hack which will allow you to save anyway.


Question: Will the creatures with new part pollinate?

Answer: Any creature which will save will be able to pollinate.


Question: Will we need to start a new game?

Answer: We strongly advise anyone using the new version of BetterSpore to start a new game, however make sure you do not play that save version without the mod. You will be able to play an old game with BetterSpore but that game may encounter bugs.


Question: Where are all the artifacts i heard about last month?

Answer: We are working to get them into 1.5, however it may not be possible and will be released in a patch or 1.6.


Question: When will BetterSpore 1.5 be released?

Answer: Hopefully by early March.


Question: Will it all be in one package or can i get the parts separately?

Answer: There will be 3 packages, BetterSpore complete (all the features), BetterSpore parts (parts/editor changes only, no gameplay changes) and BetterSpore tools (Space tools only).

I don't use Better Spore for one reason : you can't choose which of the features you want. No matter what the game is, with big mods like this you should be able to, like take the  gameplay changes but not the new parts, etc. :/
It's too bad cause I'm really interested in some of the changes you made, in particular for the length of some stages, new tools etc etc.

That's a bit more complicated with Spore, some mods require the change of the same files as others which means that the mod that loads last overwrites the previous one which could cause trouble. The parts however will be released sepparately.

Please actually read the FAQ, it explains in their how there will be 3 packages, you can choose what you want.

Correct, there is none for just the gameplay changes, if that is requested it can be done.

Looks good, but I hope to hear what exactly you are "balancing" with the mod. That's not really a question yet because I have not checked your site for that information yet.

It will be similar to the 1.48 on the site, but with some bad stuff taken out etc. All the info will be released in March.

I apologize for bumping this thread up but I would like to say that this mod has made the creature phase infinitely more fun for me.

The biggest plus is the modifications to the epic creatures, now that they move in groups of two it can make encounters much more intense. In my first game with the mod installed, I remember migrating to another continent, only to find that there was practically nothing there, I then went ahead and swam back to move to a new nest in my old continent but in order to reach the new nest site I was forced to cross through the center of a group of tall hills. A species of 2 legged rabbit-like creatures (the name escapes me) had constructed a nest in the middle of the valley between the two tallest hills and I thought that I might as well socialize with them and get a few DNA points before moving on.

I had finished dancing and singing to 5 of the 7 creatures at the nest before two Bipedal epics suddenly appeared beyond the hill on the left. They got into positional above a group of large 2 legged creatures with short horns and started to attack them, the creatures tried desperately to fend off the massive behemoths but many got picked up and eaten whole, after most of the pack was killed, the remainder tried to flee, only to be picked up by the leading epic and thrown quite a long distance. With the pack of horned creatures all killed, one of the epics backed off and walked into a clearing nearby but the other one turned it's sights on the group of creatures that I had been socializing with, fortunately for them, their AI was that of a social plant eater and they managed to understand that standing and fighting would get them killed, they instead fled to a safe distance being followed all the way by me. Unfortunately, one of them was picked up and devoured by the epic before it could get to the relative safety of the grassy hill that I (and the rest of it's pack) were standing on. From here, I observed the epic that was now blocking my path to see if it would do anything else, after it looked around for a while, it finally walked off into the distance, allowing me to finish the socializing mission and inspect the dead bodies it had left behind. I later rediscovered it attempting to climb a hill, it's partner was further back and heading towards a small grove of trees, the epic that was closest to me looked around a bit before heading towards it's partner and allowing me to continue.

It was probably the funnest moment I've had with Spore in a very long time, the BetterSpore team has done a very good job!
