You Scored as Hedonism

Your life is guided by the principles of Hedonism: You believe that pleasure is a great, or the greatest, good; and you try to enjoy life’s pleasures as much as you can. “Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die!”

95% Hedonism
80% Divine Command/Existentialism
65% Utilitarianism, Kantianism, and Justice
40% Strong Egoism
25% Nihilism
10% Apathy

Seems an apt descriptor of me. I don't believe in hedonism in the sense that everyone should only live for pleasure but I do believe that we should extract as much delight as we can from each and every moment.

So I decided to take the test again and see how my philosophy has changed over time.

Had a tiebreaker.

You Scored as Justice (Fairness)

Your life is guided by the concept of Fair Justice: Everyone, yourself included, should be rewarded and punished according to the help or harm they cause.
"He who does not punish evil commands it to be done." --Leonardo da Vinci
Though force can protect in emergency, only justice, fairness, consideration and cooperation can finally lead men to the dawn of eternal peace.” --Dwight D. Eisenhower

70% Hedonism
70% Justice (Fairness)
65% Apathy
60% Kantianism
50% Nihilism
50% Utilitarianism
45% Strong Egoism
35% Existentialism
0%  Divine Command

Second try: Tie between Justice and Kantianism -> Justice won.

75% Justice (Fairness) +5%
75% Kantianism +15%
70% Hedonism +0%
60% Existentialism +25%
55% Apathy -10%
55% Nihilism +5%
50% Utilitarianism +0%
20% Strong Egoism -25%
0% Divine Command +0%

The most interesting changes is the rise in existentialism and decline of egoism. I guess having to think of my immediate future now that I will have to apply for a real job in about a year and a half, makes me think more about making my own path, which also seems to reduce my Apathy a bit.

I can't really explain the egoism part, but if I had to guess, it's mainly because we're working in teams all the time, so it makes you more aware that others depend on you and you on them, if you like it or not.

Also, I want to point out that I am one of the people with the fewest egoism points. I score that off as a personal success.

If Russia had emerged victorious in the cold war everyone would probably be scoring highly on utilitarianism, if we lived in a fascist society, it would likely be a case of most people getting Justice (Fairness) or divine command depending on the nature of the dictatorship.

I scored Utilitarianism at 80% and Justice at 75%.

You have probably read these descriptions a half dozen times before getting to this post. :P

Doing it again is a good idea. I wish I had copied all of my scores.

Here is Mr. Wizard 2011 version:

You Scored as Utilitarianism

Your life is guided by the principles of Utilitarianism: You seek the greatest good for the greatest number.

Utilitarianism
   70%
Kantianism
   65%
Existentialism
   60%
Hedonism
   60%
Justice (Fairness)

Strong Egoism
   35%
Apathy
   25%
Nihilism
   20%
Divine Command

Yeah, much less uptight now than I used to be. Hedonism has beaten Justice, Hurrah! :D
