The Paradise Gulf War
« on: December 16, 2008, 12:09:44 pm »
Earlier today a terrorist group claimed responsibility for the recent attacks and rise in piracy. Little information is known about the group in question, however reports claim that they may be a splinter group of REDSTAR supporters; whiles others claim that they are Austian Theocrats. Gal-Ex have put a 50,000,000,000c bounty on the head of this insurgent group, while other large investors have put bounties of....

A full out invasion of the Paradise Gulf has just occured, the local security force was completely wiped out by unknown forces, possibly mercenary. Radio and Transmissions were jammed several hours before the first planet fell, nearly half of the entire Gulf has fallen. Many civilians are trapped, possibly hostage or dead. While pirates taking over un-claimed planets is perfectly within galactic law, a full out invasion of Intergalactic space is a declaration of war to every Race that obey Galactic Code or are part of the senate. Organised Crime syndicates and pirate fleets alike are working together in an attempt to threaten galactic security, all Races are expected to take part in the war effort if they're able.

"All Mon-Krai Droid fleets, prepare to mobilize within 5 standard minutes. All war related castes report to your local war official if you can for a debriefing."

...to deal with these "Rachak" creatures in a peaceful manner.
In other news, the High Apican Senate has sent an astonishing full quarter of the Goonal starfleet to Paradise Gulf in response to the terrorist attacks occurring there. Newly appointed Chairman Kloon Qir says, quote,
"To invade a civilized planet is utter madness. These pirates are highly illogical, seeing as their attack will make practically every single race in the known galaxy respond to their threat." unquote. More coverage on this move, coming up next.

The paradise gulf, north of the Arkibal empire and home to much of their foreign star-fuel mines, refineries and factories, they had good relations with previous splinter colonies that had operated there. The insurgent forces had approached close to the Arkibal trade routes and now had many border worlds heavily contested although not entirely overwhelmed.

I'm adding a bit of personal narrative to this thing.

Private Reso Ferar sat inside the pristine drop ship's interior, he felt ill, the ride to planet side was anything but smooth. The lightly armoured shuttle suddenly slammed down and the private vomited on his boots, he heard the shriek of the gauss gattlers moving into action, he quickly corrected himself and burst through the narrow doorway, cracking off a few shots into the darkness and huddling himself behind the suited engineers bringing out the field barricades.
The Sankash military council had reacted quickly to the news of the invasion sending out forces within a day, the first assignment, ever, for Private Ferar's division, take back the occupied military base on the major planet of the Fenroc Sector. It had been three days since the initial attack, they had given 6 revised briefings and intelligence was still thin and unreliable. All Reso knew was that there would be resistance on the initial landing, no maps, no estimate of enemy troop counts, nothing.
Six other divisions landed as Reso's did, they were expected to hold out long enough to send comms back home to asses the situation, base would then contact other races to coordinate a responce. So far, so good, unfortunately however, there were lots of them, Reso though at least 60 must have fell, he couldn't tell exactly how many were still coming at them but fire was bursting from every piece of cover he could see. A few minutes after he expected the armoured pods dropped behind them and as tanks rolled out, in perfect coordination a barrage of plasma shells shattered the enemy front line, engineers dragged yet more portable fortifications out of the drop ships, the atmosphere was frantic and Reso was bustled forward as the bulk head of the force moved up to form a perimeter around the base's blasted out central building, rubble rained down as tank shells smashed into walls, only to be met with rocket fire in return. This was going to be a long night.

Colonel Syer crawled from the thicket along with his four comrades, they could hear the semi-distant rattle of gunfire, almost like silence as they attached their grappling gear to the walls and ascended. They reached the roof and silently finished with the few sentries, a muffled voice from behind a gas mask spoke.
"Explosives connected, check, charge primed, check, stand back". Dust billowed out as the explosives blasted a hole in the complex roof, Seyer dropped in the riot grenade and absailed in behind the others. They fired back to back and cleared the room Syer made a final check drawing blood from the unfortunate survivors necks. He pulled his mask out as the smoke cleared, and bellowed to his men,
"Alright Kes, Thela i want you on those doors, Peras cut the lights and Yefen get on the system and lock down those star fuel silos in the basement i don't want them going up when our boys get inside."
Seyer always moved silently, he stooped to the side of one of his fallen foes, and pulled the gun from his hands, modified chemical propulsion, anti armour, low caliber plasma rounds, silver titanium alloy barrel, precision machined swivel bore, the whole thing reminded Syer of a 15 year old design, but it was all upgraded improved, and still seemed production perfect, who was supplying these pirates?, this certainly wasn't pirate gear, not quite gauss but serious stuff. He pondered as he approached the window, Percas had done his job and it was dark outside, and in, Seyer switched over to night vision, he could still see an exchange of fire, un-usual, the pirates must have night visibilty, at least some of them. The fire was decreased though and Seyer could see the men advancing across the ground, about 60 meters to the complex front. There was a shout, and a clatter, the shouting was urgent and three soldiers walked inside talking urgently one of them looked at Seyer and his jaw fell open.

Austian Home System

On the deck of the Isona, Captain Hajar sat in his chair, deep in a game of "Tataroni" with the ship's computer. He knew he couldn't win the 5-level chess-like game with the computer, but it didn't matter to him. He had spent weeks, dieing of boredom.

Suddenly his game was put on pause as the computer notified him, " Captain Hajar, it appears that a number of ships have been massing. They appear to be military. Perhaps a strike force or invasion force. " Captain Hajar's mouth suddenly changed from a frown to a smile, " Finally! " He stood up, " Get me a visual feed. " On his monitor, he saw a huge mass of Austian warships. Hajar thought for a moment, " We will follow these warships to their destination, then go back to God to report, and bring our own forces to more better monitor the situation. Perhaps it can be pushed into our favor, or atleast gain for the Jazaniro. "

The computer took the order, and the Isona prepared to follow the warships to their destination.

Ten months later....

The war in the Paradise gulf was at a stalemate. The Mercenary forces held refineries and factories in the Gulf which allowed them to produce a collosal amount of arms and weaponry. Frontline systems were turned from lively colonies to barren wasteland. A failed attempt by Austian Special Forces at taking a key moon and thus cutting the Mercenary forces in half caused a counter attack which pushed the Austian Marines out of the system completely.

Espionage was having better luck, however. Spies working for the Senate revealed that Austian Theologist Forces were working with the Mercenaries. Whether they are funding them or part of them is unknown, but the Holy Marines seem to a key point to the Mercenary advance.

The Goonal forces were largely unaffected, seeing as they contributed little ground forces and relied mainly on orbital bombardment. Many of their laser satellites were shot down, but a steady stream of supplies kept the forces bombing. Commander-in-Chief Vigroth Nell was aboard the flagship of the Goonal forces, the Virrasque. He was thinking to himself. These terrorists can't keep this up much longer, he thought.

Vigroth Nell turned off the transmission. He sighed to himself. "Looks like I'm heading to Monta Prime."

*Readies shock panels* CLEAR!

Years have passed since the last major offensive in this System. As it seems, for both sides continueing the conflict was a lost cause, yet still they fought. Men grew old and had to be replaced. Former Garden worlds burned permanantly ablaze, and entire colonies transformed from stable societies to warring militias.

Yet Still they Fought.

The 8th and 6th Fleet, the two Austian battlegroups assigned to this sector, the 8th being tasked with maintaining the front lines, and the 6th being charged with hunting down Holy Austian Groups. Most other species had pulled out on both sides. But for the Austians, this was more personal. It was a test of personal might, who was more worthy to exist, the Unionist Austians or the Holy Austians? The vendetta cost millions of lives, civilian and marine, however the war continued. As it always had for some.

The war had taken a back seat in recent times, it was never really relevant to any species other than Austian. But now, recent events put the Galaxy almost in half. And who wouldn't consider a mineral rich strech of star systems a huge asset to their side?
