I don't like them because they said, and I quote, "God f**k America." People tell me that I heard it in the wrong context and that I should look up the lyrics. I remember doing so one time and it obviously didn't change my mind.

If you couldn't tell, I'm very patriotic.

Another reason why I don't like them:

I liked Green Day...and I liked their new album...but now that every single station plays their singles every hour...I HATE THE NEW ALBUM! I liked it...but now it is more overplayed then Smashmouth's Allstar was. I'm sorry, but I can't stand them now.

Wow, this makes me realize how long it's been since I was an active user here.

I'm not conservative, patriotic or american, but i cannot stand Green Day. It's his voice, it just annoys the hell out of me. So you'll find should i ever rise Mao-like to power you'll find them erased from history. Luckily whats the honest chance of that :P.

You can like Gren Day and still be very patriotic. How is Green Day unpatriotic? Because they dont agree with our president? That certainly doesnt make them unpatriotic.

The words aren't "God **** Bush" or "Gee golly! America's a great place, but I don't like that president!" They said, and I quote, "God **** America." From the mountains, to the valleys to the oceans whi... The whole thing!

Some of the songs on their new album arent anti-god, or anti-America; they're anti-war.

It makes them money. It's something they obviously feel something about - in fact you could say that they catalysed the trend of music against Bush. They were also very successful before American Idiot, with a lot of fans. They've only gained fans, not lost them. So sue them.

Me as well. I think they sort of sold out on American Idiot. I can't stand the people who you ask if they like Greenday, and they're like, "Heck Yeah Blvd. of Broken Dreams bitchezz!!" Seriously, listen to their old stuff before you buy the t-shirt.

Duh, read my post. I didn't say they started it. I said they catalysed it. Many more bands started "coming out" afterwards.

I'm one of those people who likes Green Day's old stuff better. But then I haven't really listened to any of their new stuff either, only heard a few songs off American Idiot. Don't really care about anti-Bush stuff regardless of what band's doing it. I disliked the guy way before it was trendy.
There is a method to my madness. That method is in and of itself quite mad, but it is method nonetheless.

Minority was probably their last good song. After that they jumped the EMO, Anti-Bush and pop-bandwagon and I cannot respect them for that. And their music is OK to listen to once or twice, but after hearing that bleedin "Broken Dreams" a gazillion times on radio you'd drink urine rather than listen to them.

Also, the irony of an anti-band backed by a huge corporation is too much for me.

some of their songs are acceptable, but on the whole their style annoys me
Kings 2:23-24 --- The Holy Bible
23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!" 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youth.

everything went sour when they released American Idiot.

They made Dookie which was great but nothing special then then after Nimrod and eps etc they made Warning, my favorite green day album then politics entered their music and ruined everything.

I saw this coming from a Mile away when I saw the title of this thread. Damn people are shallow ignoramuses.

I loved Dookie, and Having a Blast from that album is one of my Favorite songs. I loved American Idiot, though it was distinctively different from their previous albums. Then again I love politics, political discourse, and the Freed of Speech and Expression. I guess that makes me Un-American for thinking the same.

**** America. You know why? We constantly bully and interfere with affairs of other Sovereign nations. We defy the UN and International Community. Our education system has gone to pot, our job markets are being outsourced, we're in an economic decline, we elected a chimpanzee puppet (an incredibly stupid one at that) as President TWICE, and before gas prices started to get "out of control" (they've been out of control for years, just ask any European/Englishmen) all we cared about was what Celeb was porking another. The News Media doesn't even dispense real news anymore, because real news doesn't sell. We get soft news and propaganda (from all sides). So I'm not saying eff the Country, when I say eff America, I'm saying eff our ignorance and our throw-away, ignorant, and apathetic culture.

Oh yea, Jesus of Suburbia is one of the weakest tracks from American Idiot.

What did that diatribe have to do with the thread?

T'was something 762 had said ages ago. Didn't realize how old it was until right now. That and I was in one of my moods. Highly frustrated and hair-pin trigger. My fuse is usually quite long, but sometimes it's not. It had to do with people hating Greenday for the political messages in the new album. Politics and Music (especially Rock and Punk music) go together often. Also, 8 years of Georgie boy have made my tolerance of overly conservative thinking dwindle. So a combination of factors causing me to be easily tweaked, and late night (it was past midnight when I posted it) typing caused that post. I won't remove or edit it, even though it should probably be. I'd report it if the forum would let me report myself, but I won't delete it myself. I think I'm right, and my weird sense of pride keeps me from doing that.
