I just hope it isn't a multigenre game like spore, that's one of the reasons why it failed.
Maybe an upgraded version of Sim-Earth?

The multigenre aspect wasn't the problem -- the poor transitions were. Letting the player move between controlling one creature to a tribe of them in a more natural way would help (1st person control of the chief + tribe commands), as would going from a cell to creature (3d underwater movement), tribe to civ (tribal vehicles and buildings/layout), and civ to space (transport vehicles inside the ufo for multifront assaults on other worlds)

We'll he's covered humans and aliens, what's left -- robots?

Yep. I have a feeling he is going back to his roots and doing some robots stuff. Or at least Artificial Intelligence stuff.

EDIT: However for EA or Maxis I am very sure they will not put the Spore editors to waists and develop all the old Sims games with those tools. Such as Sim City with a good building editor or The Sims with a Spore-like furniture editor or creature editors for pets. needless to say a lot can be done with them whether or not Will decides to be apart of those games.

Will also likes those Battlefield games so i wonder he will ever make a FPS like that. Or his infamous "Nazi Blimp Game" *chuckles*.

But knowing Will Wright, it will be a game based around the Russian Space program. :P

I would LOVE an update of Sim Earth. ;.;  I think with Next-Gen graphics, you could really do some keen things with it.  I'd love to see a cross-section of a planet rendered with today's mechanics, seeing it boiling away inside and life teeming above.

I'm also a dork who loved Sim Tower-- and I know that he had nothing to do with it, so it's not often spoken of here. >.>  But if he phoned up Yoot Saito again and made an offer I'm sure they could remake another one.

SimMars also needed to be made, and it wasn't, and that made me a sad panda. >_<  A reimagining of the space race would make a fun game, too, in the vein of his cosmonaut obsession.  Did anyone here ever play 'Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space'?  Super-fun, if super-hard.  Will could finally put the Russians back into space with a game like that.

*praying that a Maxis spy still lurks* >.>

Dwarf Fortress with graphics and a higher budget?
I would sacrifice a dozen orphan children atop an altar to a pagan god of Will's choosing if that was the case. And, most importantly, if the game got done right. A poorly done DF-inspired game would be worse than no game at all.

Wow ..people seriously need to get over Securom...its not a big deal. If they are so miffed about it then they should stop pirating games then they wouldn't need to deal with anti piracy measures.

*facepalm*

Anyway, I agree that a Toady/Wright combination would rock the socks off everyone in a three mile radius.

If they could somehow add Pixel to the mix...

Perhaps he'll do an updated ant game, with better graphics and more complexity!

Spore, good or bad, did acomplish something that has never been done before. All the tools and technology developed have truely set the stage for the next level of game development. Much like a cancelled bomber or fighter plane can be dubbed a failure and a 'waste of money' the technology developed can be used in the next generation of combat aircraft, so things are not a total loss.

Will Wright and Maxis now have a huge tool chest to make just about anything they want. If EA is willing to bankroll it, well, it better be damn good, but the money will be there.

Although I'd like to agree. I don't think Spore didn't anything well in the department of technology.
The only thing it managed to do was create a system of easy to use 3D editors and a system for user-created object animations.

All of which has already been done before.

As for Will Wright's new project... there is probably a reason he's keeping it closed.
If he were to tell everyone now all these hardcore gamers would get excited for what is to be just another of EA and Maxis's 'casual gamer' games. (Like Spore)

That said, I am never.... ever... getting excited over something coming from EA or Maxis ever again.

In fact. from the 3 ways Maxis want to expand the PC Spore franchise:
- New parts,
- New gameplay
- Apply Sporepedia creations in new games.

the 3rd options is the most interesting. Only imagine:

Sim City Spore edition
Spore Kart
Spore of the colossus  :P
Gradius Spore edition
Etc...
Check EVE SPORECAST in Sporepedia for alien chicks!!!
