Dear EA/Maxis:
I do not wish to be confrontational.   I do not even want to debate the value of the comics and cute and creepy packs.  What I want is simple.  It is not for my sake, or customer's sake.  It is for your sake.  Please turn around.  Please.  Spore fans are NOT like Sims fans, in many ways.  First, you lost most of the Sims fans at the word "Spore".  Second, Sims fans are largely disorganized.  If they dislike a business practice, they will keep it to themselves.  The ones who yell are not heard as none listen.  Spore fans on the other hand, are massively part of the internet generation.  Those who previously would have bought the C&C will not buy it due to complaints, and those who would not have bought it will aggressively attack it.  Third, Spore fans are more tedious, more obsessed.  (That is not an insult, if anything that is a compliment.)  They WILL notice if you promise something and don't deliver it, or use clever lies on boxes or in manuals.  I fear you are going down the wrong business path.
Signed,
Grangan.
(Sign as well if you agree).

Maxis has become less confrontational since all the negativity. So I doubt they will reply being that they would just be opening themselves to everyone's ridicule here in Spore general. They have a self-esteem to preserve.

Now I am not Maxis but I can give you the most likely answers.

Firstly, as Tr0n nicely explained, the current sales numbers are by a majority are not from Spore fans but from casual players. It is in the hopes that Maxis can attract them first since their audience is larger. Once enough interest is garnered from them Maxis can focus on the hardcore.

Which brings me to my second point. Chin up! They're working on expansions that will hopefully bring back what we imagined Spore to be. So don't tell Maxis they should ditch the casuals. They bring more money than all the Spore fans combined. So in a sense they are contributing in the development of expansion packs that will enhance Spore over time.

Patience my friend.

MOO. By all accounts, EA needs a cash cow right about now. I would not hold my breath.

But expansions sometimes make games great. I hope this will be the case with spore.

Especially since EA is loosing stock. They had quite a few layoffs.

Wall Street just made an unsolicited suggestion to the Disney CEO to buy EA.

EA isn't happy right now.

That is of course IF Disney takes their word for it.

They have been moving in the right direction lately. I do not think I want to know what direction Disney would take it. How would that be better than Microsoft?

I meant that they are at least opening their eyes.

I don't want Disney to take over EA. That'd be even worse than it is now.

Yeah, I thought so.

There are some bright people at EA who are leading the "improve our image" movement. Can we trust that Disney will keep them if they buy them?

The only thing I can say about the Disney thing is

BLARGHUM *Capital letters for emphasis  ;)*

I seriously don't think Disney and Spore will be able to coexist properly. Imagine Disney is a barren planet and Spore is that ugly tick thing from GDC 2005. Drop Spore there and *more emphasis* BOOOM.

What will happen to Spore? It might not be pretty.  :-\

hm... I'm a Sims fan... The word spore didn't lose me, actually it was quite the contrary. I see nothing wrong with extending the game with a few expansions and such. The myriad of stuff packs didn't bug me. If you don't think they are worth the money, don't buy 'em. If you like what you see, pick it up. It adds a little diversity to everyone's game that way too, as well as keeping it fresh.
There will be a serious problem with school when Spore comes out...

My tag for Sporepedia is Randios, please check out my creatures and give me constructive feedback/criticism! User name is Randios187, tag is Randios. Thanks!

I can imagine the next patch-"This patch is to get the game to an EC rating...  It removes the red and blue paths from the game, as well as removing all space weapons...  You must download it to play and we have wireless access to offline computers...  Thanx!  LOL!  Diz_Mod_Steamboat_Willy"
