why is this happening? (help please)
« on: October 10, 2008, 02:08:35 pm »
i just got my brothers laptop back, and they had to wipe the computer's files and everything. So no i am playing Spore and i have found 5 nests of my Pytons and my epic is a Pyton!

i thought spore was supposed to populate your planets with other players stuff not your own!

i am very ticked off about this, any advice on how to fix it?

EDIT: i just looked on my sporepedia and all of my creatures generations are saved. how can i stop it from auto saving all of my creature's generation?

So, was your game on your brothers computer?

I'm not exactly sure how to help you here. A reinstall might do it, but others may be able to help you more here.

Thats... wow.. odd. I've seen my own creatures alot on my planet but only because they resemble my own the most. See the program is searching for likeminded content. Giving a nice theme to the planet. The thing is if your theme is so different from the rest or your creatures are so similar they will select yours first. Even then the most Ive had been mine is 50 percent? Max. Usually 10 percent. Id say a total reinstall mite help. Frankly I dont face these problems since I have so many copies of previous saves that work to pull from.

yes the game was on my brothers computer before hand as well.
but then i had a good mix of maxis, GS, and random creatures, but now i look for five seconds and all i see are mine.

EXAMPLE:
i walk over a hill. i see my pyton "cool!" i think. i walk over another hill to find two more nests, both with pytons, "okay....". i finally find a different creature, but then he is attacked by a pyton from a nest not far a way and to top it all off there is an epic pyton in the background. SERIOUSLY WTF

I get what you are saying here as far as what is happening. I think there were a few threads on a problem similar to this, but they are buried somewhere in the pile of about 2 months of forum pages.

Honestly I don't know how to help you out here.

How much content is in your "everything" tab on Sporepedia?  How many buddies/sporecasts are you subscribed to?

There's nothing you can do to stop the game from selecting your own creations.
The game chooses your own content as well as everyone elses.
It also saves anything you create in the editors, including all generations.

You can delete stuff though. You can delete it all if you want.
The game replaces anything you delete with something random.

Edit: One reason you're getting a lot of your own stuff is because you only have 2500 total things.
I have like 16,000 and my game still uses my own stuff all the time.

Maybe if you add more buddies and wait a while for it to load more things? I have like 14,000+ from all the buddies that I have (which are mainly GamingSteve members).

Sounds like it had a limited number of stuff because maxis creations total 1,000 something, so maybe the pool just isn't big enough yet and so it defaults to your own stuff.

@Bluelightning: I also see my own stuff from time to time, but not to an annoying extent. In fact, there was only one game that my own stuff outnumbered or got close to it other peoples creatures.

is there any reason i doesn't load anyone else's creations?

There's an option to only allow content from buddies.
Maybe you clicked the option and forgot about it?

I think I need to wipe the roaming/spore directory because mine aren't showing up and there is now a connection problem.

Sounds like you started your game before the Sporepedia had enough time to populate... I waited a half hour watching the downloads come in after my last wipe of my roaming/spore directory... either that or you picked a theme of your own content.
no the theme is normal, i have seen a few of my buddie's creatures but not many at all

I just realized something. I LIKE how the animals are repeating now. I was taking pictures of animals when I realized a few kept repeating. Then I realized they were taking up certain terrains and ecological niches. I could tell where to expect animals. Be they ally or foes. This is way more realistic for me and theres so many ecologies that Im not running out of animals. There just more of the same species so instead of running into new ones all the time theres some predictability.
