SporeEdit - VERSION 1.8
Created by [CE]Eradicator

SporeEdit can be found here

SporeEdit is a program built to mod Spore.

Usage

1. Start the program.
2. Click "Packages" at the top.
3. Click File -> Open
4. Select "Spore_Game.package".
5. Click File -> Save All
6. Select a location to extract data.
7. Wait for it to finish.
8. Click "Set Path"
9. Navigate to the location you selected in step 6.
10. You're done, in the Search window, you area able to search through the Spore data files for specified string. So if you wanted to find everything containing "debug", you would enter it in the text field and press "Search". If you wanted to change something you could press "Edit" with that line selected, or, press "Notepad" to open the file in Notepad.

NOTE: SporeEdit does not currently support repacking of .packages, you must repack files using SpView right now.

Features
  • Fast searching and editing through extracted Spore data.
  • Unpacking of Spore’s .package data files.
  • .prop to .xml conversion

I've been using this tool, and I think I'm really close to unlocking the other cell parts for use in the main game.

Use it -- it's awesome. And I'm not just saying that because I'm in the credits ;)

I'll try it, I guess.

Edit: Hold up, I can't find this mythical "sporedata" folder.

Updated first post with user instructions, I probably should have done that in the first place.

It's very unlikely. Spore is a singleplayer game.

And besides, Will Wright all but openly invites people to hack/mod his games. You can tell, whenever he talks about the fan-base of his games and their creations, that he loves how we use his program as a platform for creating a uniquely customized playing experience for ourselves and others who would like it too. His inspiration has pretty much always been about giving players the right tools to go wild and be creative. The video of him addressing Sporn was rather amusing, simply because he appeared very amused by the whole thing.. To paraphrase for those who haven't seen it, and because I don't have a link, it went something like this, "Some of them are very talented, in terms of achieving what they set out to do. You can tell that a lot of time and creativity went into making such explicit creatures," and all the while he had that telltale "I'm trying not to laugh inappropriately" smirk.  :D

Sorry if it's a little of topic but I remember a Maxis person saying "If someone wants to make penis cars driving into vagina houses, they can."

Sounds like a good tool, but I take objection with you using the tagline "The Ultimate Spore Modding Tool".

Quote
Ultimate:
adj.

   1. Being last in a series, process, or progression: “As the ultimate arbiter of the Constitution, the Supreme Court occupies a central place in our scheme of government” (Richard A. Epstein).
   2. Fundamental; elemental: an ultimate truth.
   3.
         1. Of the greatest possible size or significance; maximum: Has the ultimate diamond been found?
         2. Representing or exhibiting the greatest possible development or sophistication: the ultimate bicycle.
         3. Utmost; extreme: the ultimate insult.
   4. Being most distant or remote; farthest. See synonyms at last1.
   5. Eventual: hoped for ultimate victory.

So in essence, Ultimate means the last, or the best.
I doubt that SporeEdit is going to be the last spore modding tool, and it's definitely not the best that there could be since it can't even put package files back together.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a bad program, just not The Ultimate.

A real hindrance to modding:

On attempting to use xml>prop (so I can then put the props back into package format):

'An error has occurred! This feature has been temporarily disabled.'

If this is incomplete, can someone please tell me where I can get something to reformat xml to prop please, it must be possible seeing as mods for Spore have already been released.

Thanks

Chris

You, my friend, are just being picky. Its only version 1.8 and frankly who cares what it's called? I think you need to stop reading the dictionary :-\

Anyway, this looks excellent and I'll try it out tomorrow :)
