Underappreciated Games
« on: November 03, 2005, 11:54:47 pm »
Any games, on any system,  you have really enjoyed playing that no one else seems to have heard of?

Post them here.

Here are 2 which I really enjoyed:

PS1)   Legend of Legaia
SNES) EVO - Search for Eden

Interesting sidenote: EVO is quite similar to Spore. Take a look: http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/launchreview.asp?reviewid=411960

I really liked Beyond Good and Evil and I don't believe too many people played that.

Graffiti Kingdom.  Another Spore-ish one.

Enter the Matrix.  Yes the mo-cap looks funny, but there was a decent game in there, I swear.

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.  Great to see experimenting with alternate input devices, and a great game besides.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong.  Cool GBA game that updates the retro stlye play, and adds a neat new element with the Mini-Marios.

Serious Sam maybe?  Not sure how much attention that one got.
Have you all heard of Guitar Hero?  Great one there.

I've heard nothing but good stuff about Beyond Good and Evil, but for some reason I still haven't bought it.

I've got a few. The only places I've seen people mention these are at fansites or forums based entirely around them.
Never (or extremely rarely) will you see light references to these games.
Kind of sad.

PS2 - Dark Cloud 2, Monster Hunter

SNES - Robotrek, Secret of Evermore, Illusion of Gaia, Soulblazer, Shadowrun

PC - Gothic series

N64 - Operation: Winback

And it may surprise you that, as many people as I've told, nobody freaking knows about Spore. It's ridiculous.
I've basically got a huge speech on the game down by heart, having told it like fifty times.
"Ma all the gods of furious strong be with you as you crunch opposents, and live like a windrammer as you f**k."

SuperPower 2 for the PC. That is a superb strategy game. I love it. It got like a 4/10 on Gamespot, but I think it's great!

Project: Snowblind for multiple consoles.  It wasn't that good, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.  Mischeif Makers for the N64 is also a big one for me.  Treasure never ceases to amaze me.
Currently playing: Perfect Dark Zero, Golden Sun, Half Life 2

Solaris for the Atari 2600.

It was an amazingly deep space adventure for a 4 Kb system.  Very rare, it was released toward the end of the atari's lifecycle.  I wish I still had it.

Harvest Moon.

Yes. If only A Wonderful Life was as good as Harvest Moon 64.

Psychonauts

That game was so freaking awesome, but nobody bought it... *sigh*  I atleast really enjoyed it, although the first play through was so freaking awesome, I thinks it makes up for the non-replayability.

(for me anyways, I still have urges to play it, just to see the fantastic levels.)
