Black Screen in Custom Paint Editor iMac FIXED!!!
« on: September 08, 2008, 01:06:56 pm »
Just wondering if I am alone...

In the Vehicle and Building editor when I choose the paint option (Not sure what it is called but it has either a paint brush or paint bucket icon) to choose what parts are painted on an object my object to the right becomes a black screen.

Is this an error in the game?  I have no graphic issues or bugs in the game that I have seen...so is this happening to others as well?

Thanks, oh and the first two paint options work, just not that third 'free mode' one. :P

No No, I have had that issue before too...it is a strange bug. I have to exit and reenter the editor for it to go away. I was trying to paint my UFO segments different colors and it did not work out very well, lol.

One last try as I beat my head against the wall:

That is what I am getting...it looks normal for the other two paint modes.

HELP!

That's really strange, might be your graphic card not handling it or something...

Yeah but the card is fine, supported, up to date...hell my roommate has the same computer and his works fine!!

So fricking frustrating...I am gonna tweak around with my portable HP and see if I can get it running well enough.  A shame since the iMac runs it so beautifully but what is the point if I cannot do what I want in the game?

Black Screen in Custom Paint Editor iMac FIXED!!!

Ok all, some of you may have seen this thread:

http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?topic=14279.0

Where I had the problem that when in the vehicle or building editor I had a black screen in the custom paint section which made painting hard since I was blind:

Well I found the fix and I thought it deserved some celebration (For a bug being worked around) and also a spotlight for any other Mac or PC users that might get the error.  The fix is to set the "Graphic Effects" to low:

Yeah go figure...

I have not noticed and major hit to the in game looks from this and all my other settings are at high save shadows and depth of field which are medium.

Finally after over two days of stressing I can enjoy the game!!  :)

Thanks for the few who offered me encouragement and support by just posting in the original topic!!

I have an iMac too, and i discovered that lowering the graphics or audio settings tend to make a lot of inexplicable problems go away...

Unfortunately it doesn't fix sporecast/sporepedia problems,

Unfortunately it doesn't fix sporecast/sporepedia problems,

Well I quickly discovered that this setting effects all the cool ambient effects like light throught the trees and the blur of distant objects.

So I just turn it off only when I need to paint!

Small pain to enjoy a fantastic game!

I did not try messing with the sound settings...might see if that does anything but I doubt it in this case.  Overall I am very happy!  :)
