Space-update your creatures!
« on: September 07, 2008, 04:14:06 pm »
Here's a quick tip for those who think it's worth it: Update all your normal, Creature Creator creatures to Space stage. Just add a hat and some armour. Why? Because I'm sick of Maxis's boring and unimaginative creatures I encounter all the time in Space! I wouldn't have minded all those fantastic Gamingsteve creatures being nude when I encountered them, but Maxis must have... So if you have fantastic creatures, update them!

PS. Really high complexity creatures never show up as non-sentients, so Space is the only place where you'll encounter them.

Sounds like a cool idea :)

Some of mine are intended to be sentient anyways. It'll take a while to do this, but it's definetly a good idea.

Yeah, some of mine are sentient-intended too. The fully evolved Pokémon, anyway.
Too bad high complexity creatures are never not sentient. Onix doesn't seem like it'd be the Space-species type. It has no arms. That reminds me of Vexxarr....
Once I get to that point, you'll be able to encounter Blastoise and Dusknoir with various odd clothes. maybe funny hats.
That will be awesome. I'll definitely get into that once I get the chance.
Pokémon are creatures too.

I'll get right on that tomorrow after work. It might help solve the problem I'm having where I'm running into a ton of my own stuff even though I'm online and subscribed to people.

My game tends to only use Maxis stuff even though I'm online and allowing downloading content not just buddy stuff. Anyway on to the race.

Avos Sapian Space stage.

So it's doing that for you too? I suppose it's because there isn't that much content for the other stages yet... though... the way I see it, it could be messed up. I keep getting my own creations and Maxis creations thrown at me far more than anything else, at least in Space Phase. Maybe the priorities are messed up for the Space Phase.

Is that without the buddy system as well? Because there must be tons of non-Maxis UFO's and space races by now.

EDIT: There are 126000 UFOs. You really shouldn't be seeing your own or Maxis unless you've restricted yourself to buddy content.

I'm not restricted but I meant in general for alot of the later content. I was getting some of my creations bounced back at me.. I was getting only Maxis UFOs, but I keep forgetting to click the UFO that shows up when in Creature.. so maybe that's different. But earlier today, I played a game of Civ and every city used my structures... Most of them stuck to the same theme too.. they didn't mix and match structures at all. In fact almost every city except mine used the same buildings. I'll see if I can get up to Civ again real quick and check it out. Also, the other phases aren't unlocking for me either. I have like 3 Space Phase Games going, and 2 Creature Phase games, but I can only access Cell and Creature. I just created a game skipping Cell and going straight into creature hopefully that will make it work.

It seems to want to bounce back whatever is stored locally to me. I hadn't added very many buddies the other day when this happened now that I have like 10, I'll see if it still does it... but Spore seems to prioritize content weirdly. If it has your name, and is stored locally, it seems more likely to show up... I wish there was a way to limit and/or ban your own content and get stuff almost solely from the Sporepedia.

It only provides buddy content my content or maxis content. I definantely have buddy content only turned off. Next time I play I'll start from the space stage again making darn sure I can get online content and see if i can grab stuff. I have a handful of sporecasts and buddie I'm subscribed to so get one or 2 things from them but as far as other races go it's all Maxis (I think I got 1 non-maxis race which i downloaded my self manually)

I've been making them. I've also made a Sporecast for Space type stuff, so, UFOs, buildings, Space creatures and vehicles. There's the occasional regular creature and funny UFO, like a Tardis I found.

Here's the link.

Yeah, I'm planning on re issuing mine with tweaks based on where I want them to show up so they end up in the correct areas more often (the hawking series especially needs this)

It keeps failing several times. I can't upgrade some of my creatures... they won't upload, one gets a "Not successfully uploaded" error and the other gets the infamous "Maxis Content" error.

Most of my updated races are getting that, too. =/
I remade all my humanoids, but only 2 shared successfully...

It makes me mad/sad too because they came out spectacularly...

Edit: Here are some creatures that won't upload. I deleted two other ones and they were PERFECT too.. I wish i didn't delete them in frustration.

What I do to get around the maxis creature thing is to re edit a maxis creature thats not upgraded to space then it turns into my own creation which lets me make them into space that I can share. Oh and I did upgrade my gaz and krey to space creatures.

Just added two for space, also, how do I figure out which creatures will only show up as a sentient other than looking through all of the stuff that I have?

If they're Tribe/Civ/Space, the background on their cards is different. They also have a different label on Sporescope. I don't know if you can easily tell any other way, or if there's a filter for them ingame, I haven't looked.

Usually it's the high complexity ones that won't show up as creature stage creatures due to their stats being too big. It appears that those creatures might appear in Space as Civ stage creatures on planets you visit, but I haven't played enough to be sure.

Nobody else has Space races to share? Or do most people not have the uploading bug that I have?

A lot of mine are doing that right now so I've stopped tweaking them until we get a confirmation on this bug being ID'd and Fixed.

A creation that proved too complicated for the Sporepedia to allow:

Quite a shame in my mind, as I'd become quite attached to my far-too-many-limbed blue space spiders, and hoped to spread them to other Sporatics far and wide.
This is a public service announcement.

Lose: (v. intr) to fail to retain, preserve, maintain, sth.; to be defeated
Loose: (adj.) not firm, taut or rigid; free (v. intr) to make loose, undo

I have space races to share but they refuse to upload to Sporepedia due to complexity :(
