Have anyone tried my solution? Because I've heard that it helped some people. Remeber that you are on a Unix-like system, some text-editing are required ^^

i have a macbook with the same problem as everyone else, and I saw kuninobu's solution on the spore customer support page, but i dont have any experience with unix and this seemed like a quicker way to figure it out than trying to contact ea. could anyone give me a more detailed set of instructions? thanks in advance

EA support just wrote me that the problem is fixed now... Which isn't the case, I still get the same Error.

The problem is solved!

1. Open a terminal

2. Go to the /etc-directory (cd /etc)

3. Edit the hosts-file and remove the ""127.0.0.1 proxy.novafusion.ea.com" line (sudo nano hosts)

4. Save the file

5. Close the terminal and go play SPORE!

i tried to search for a Terminal on my mac and yes i found it
But i've no idea how to find /etc-directory (cd /etc) in the terminal
could you explain step by step how you get to the edit hosts file section? cuz i'm kinda new to mac
=)

I also have no idea what to do with the terminal. I tried asking a friend for help, and they just told me I could completely obliterate my mac by tampering incorrectly with it.

I'll even name entire galaxies after the person who can dumb it down enough for me!

Okey let's give you a crash-course in using the terminal..

1. Start up the Terminal (can be found under utilities)

2. Navigate to the folder /etc. You do this with the command:

Code: [Select]
cd /etc
3. Now you need to open your hosts-file. You do this with the command:

Code: [Select]
sudo nano hosts
You will be prompted for your password.

4. Now, move the marker down to the line including said information and erase it like you would do in any text-file (backspace, delete, whatever). Save the file modified file by pressing Ctrl+S, and leave nano with Ctrl+X.

5. Close down the terminal and go play SPORE!
