Ondaderthad's Oddities (Minor SPOILERS)
« on: August 28, 2008, 09:36:25 pm »
Since most forum members have a thread to post their creatures I thought I might as well start one too.
I am not looking for votes/ratings.
Most of those creatures were created as experiments or as Demo for other family members or visitors.

In no particular order.... apart from my photobucket pages.

I think I have about 109 shared at the moment.
See them all:
http://www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=usr-Ondaderthad
Most of them were just for fun with the CC until I know more about the Sporecasts and the full game.

After having tried a couple of games on both Hard and Easy settings now is the time to try Normal.
I didn't remember to take screen shots on those early trials.
All I remember in the middle of the excitement of finally having Spore in my hands is that I first wanted to test the Hard setting to see how difficult it would be.
.. not for noobies.. I played the Onda Complexus up to the start of Tribal stage.
I managed to finish the cell stage as an omnivore. Tricky to balance the diet.
In creature stage I found quite a lot of Parkaboy's creatures as Epics. Scary.. and deadly.

Next game was the opposite. I started a carnivore on Easy mode. No problems. Just kill and eat.
That was Onda Simplex and they look like T-rex of course.

Now for my third run I wanted something different. And Parkaboy reminded me to take pictures and make a story.
So...

Here is the Story of the Onda Vulgaris.

Planet Landfall:

As a cell I sacrificed vision for speed. sell the eyes and get extra flagellas. Note the field of vision is reduced to a circle.
But that's not as bad as it may look. When other cells kill each others and drop a new part this part is visible in a small circle even on the edge of the screen. Much easier to notice than playing with eyes.

After a short 10 million years we emarged out of the primordial soup.
When you don't have eyes you want to keep a low profile.

Around the nest there was a few basic Maxis animals. Low DNA stuff.

And also..

As a herbivore we gained the Siren Song Ability. Nice FX even in black and white.

Here is a handy little screen that shows your collection of stuff.

After a while the others decided to leave and migrate to a new nest. I had to walk alone along the trail to find it.
NOTE the video sequences are in full colours unlike the play area.

The creatures around the new nest are a lot tougher. I did find a few creatures from LadyM and Parkaboy but they were too hostile to approach.
Then I tried to Impress the Equpsitta (hydromancerx) but I didn't have much success.

No luck with the Armstrongs (hydromancerx) either.

Now it's lunch time. I noticed a fruit just rolled down the hill from those trees.
Gravity works as it should. (also some huge logs on the beach can be pushed around and into the water)

Oh yes... I found the Galactic Center and marked it on my map. I had 6 planets to chose from at the start. After using 3 of them there are still 6 available. This means that each time you start a game a new planet is opened up.

Here is part of the Maxis collection of plants and trees. Note the button at the top to select small medium or large.
But only 163 Flora on disc so I guess the expension is not too far away.
Also the Buddy list on the left. On the printed manual it also shows the Sporecast list under that.
Guess it will be activated soon.
The Download of Buddies creature is automatic (after selecting their names) and live. ie. if some saves and shares a creature it becomes instantly available in my game. You can also add or delete single creatures.

And here is the screen of my Achievements so far. A list of those also appear when you look at any member's Sporepedia page along with small thumbnails and comments.

For a full view of these creatures in Sporepedia see:
http://www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=usr-Ondaderthad

Loved the screenshots! I'm really curious about other people's adventures, hope more GSers post theirs in the forum.

Since you already have the game, there's one doubt that's consuming me right now, and I wish you helped me. In civ stage, can we choose the pattern/color of the "ground" of your city? And how about the walls design? It's just that in many screenshots I've seen the designs don't match very well with the buildings...

Thanks for adding me to your sporecast list as well :)

It's more like 6 days until I get the game because of the preorder shipping delay. Spore should be shipping to the US soon though.

@ WeatherMAN23

I don't mean to boast. I spend more time on the forum than playing  :-\  because I know too well how it feels.
I remember when Neverwinter Nights was released one month later in Australai (I had been following these forum for at least 2 years before)
These pix and stories are mostly to help you (and myself) understand the game better.
You will find it was well worth the long wait.

@ Parkaboy

You are welcome to take those pix for your Blog. (copy the photobucket link)

re: Cities
I'll take a screenshot later.

I know that you can add a lots of dodads between the buildings. Trees, statues, fountains etc.. They cost very little and do-nothing. Just visuals.

In the city planner there is a whole screen of those small add-ons and a number of empty spots on the ground. But I don't think you can change the walls. But I could have missed that.

Also the Music is saved in your Sporepedia as well as in your "My Documents" folder.
There is also a Plants subfolder in My Documents. Indicating they will release a plant editor to add to those 153 existing Maxis trees.
There might be a problem with the Space missions asking you to collect specific plants. They would need to add a provision for user created plants.

Oh it's fine, just a little ribbing that you have it and I am sitting here, looking at a torrent for the game and am trying my best to control my urge to download it and then buy it on Sunday morning... I am glad you enjoy the game and (if I can withstand temptation) I will play it Sunday morn!

I would like to know if we get told when one of our creature gets used in someone else world.

Anyway... Today we are still exploring around the nest. Found a Spice vent (they exist in creature stage and are at the same spot later in Civ)
But Geez it's a lot of wind coming out of there.

Some fruit is too high in trees and you have to jump.

I eventually died of hunger because it's so hard to find food when you are blind.
Time to Evolve some eyes and Legs.
NOTE: the migration track in the minimap. This is the second nest out of three.

Glorious Sight!
Now I can see the enemies. Here are the Bullsquids (WeatherMAN23) and Ookguh (Maxis)
The brown-green spots things are not creatures just some tree trunks.

We (I have a mate following me) found a nest of Trumpet-Peibis (Parkaboy)

Lets see if we can Impress them.
NOTE: I had the cursor on a Baby (less DNA) and each nest also has an Alpha creature with more DNA than the normal ones.
NOTE 2: Notice the nice trees in the background.

You might be able to see all the pictures in the slideshow (if it works)

Cool, the Trumpet-Peibi is one of my earliest creations. I was going for a less powerful creature at the time, I hope it didn't give you trouble.

Edit: That screenshot is on the Blog. Later I'll add links for the creatures! The link for the blog is in my sig.

This session we first went to see an Omic (Hydromancerx) nest.

When the fruit stay on the ground for too long they go rotten and are inedible.

Found some Canabiena (Parkaboy) on a hill side. 40 DNA reward for Impressing them.

Gliosan Gladiators (Parkaboy) Permanently Hostile and nasty. We will have to come back later with some heavy weaponry. (monster fodders)

I was trying to breed in the nest but some unwelcome visitors arrived.
Bullsquids (WeatherMAN23) are permanently Hostile.

I was admiring the Night Sky wondering how many stars there are. And you can see them slowly moving around.

OOOPS... this star is moving a lot faster than the others.

That was a really big meteor. All the creatures around are frightened.

A whole shower of them.

Next morning we go swimming.
But I learned to stay close enough to the edge.
There are some huge sea monsters in the deep.
Note the red water on my planet.

I met a Rogue Gark and managed to impress it. Although not as large as an Epic the rogues are still worth 250 DNAs

A Stinger Antoid's nest. Note the Spice Vent in the background.

Oh! Look! It's raining now...

Time to Impress a rogue Troglor for another helpful ally.

All the Wutans creatures scatter away in fear. What's happening?

It's an unknown UFO abducting the Wutans.

Just some time left to visit another creature nest. The Magpings.

And a look at the Moon Rise. Quite fast moving.
It probably takes a minute to cross the screen.

Next session we evolve to Tribal stage.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D
PS: I uploaded a new forum avatar from one of my cell stage.

Can you later remove buddies?  I would be surprised if you couldn't.  Could you add me for a couple of minutes and tell me if you see any of mine?

it's probably going to take more than a few minutes for that to happen because there are so many other creatures.

How come that screen a couple posts back only show 117 of my creatures bieng under me on the buddy list? is that just what had been loaded up at that moment? just wondering.

I meant for one generation, if applicable.  I doubt anyone would want mine because some of them were done by my brother before I made an account for him.  I just would like to see when my various creations would show up.

You can add and remove buddies from one click.

And also see a special user page for each buddy showing their game Badges. (none yet 'cause you didn't play yet)

@smjjames
It shows only the number that was downloaded at the time. Since I added 4 or 5 buddies at the same time it slowly downloads each creature (and buildings, ufo etc.. if you have them saved)
I took the screenshot while it was still updating.
By the way, this all happens in the background so you can play while it's updating.

One feature I found in Options that will be good is that you can choose the date span of the buddies downloads .ie date of creation from 1 to 60 days old.
And also purge old creatures if unused for longer than 1 to 60 days. They are then saved in a backup folder if you want. Neat. It keeps the content fresh and avoids meeting the same old creatures in every game.

Also I would suggest adding a collection of at least a dozen buddies to get a good spread of creatures and different styles.

The Sporecast functions are getting setup by Maxis so that will also add more capabilities.

@Pietoro

Those Magpings were spore-atic  >:(

@ kenotai
done.

I hope you all will add me as well. I know my creatures are not the top of the range but most of them "work" well enough.
And I found it a lot more interesting when you run into something created by someone you know from gamingsteve.
"Oh look there. It a Magping from Pietoro"  sounds better than "I just killed a Asfgdh from nooby256"

Next Episode will be the Tribe Stage - coming soon to a forum thread near you.....

I think the Magpings were friendly enough. Hard to remember all those names.

While back at the nest and pondering on all that DNA stuff... I picked up a stick and started drumming up. Then threw it up in the air...

What goes up must come down..

IDEA..

And with sticks you can also make fire...

And cook meals and play games... Let's start a new Tribe

Well now we will need houses and weapons and what else...???

I enjoyed this but I'm going to have to stop reading since your going into tribal stage. You might want to add that to your title, *Tribal Stage* so others know but then again, if they read, they'll know.

This would be a good storytelling thread. I've thought about doing that with my first adventure.

classic 2001: Oddessy moment :) except it was a bone not a stick in the movie.

As for a storytelling thread, I think I may start a new one of my own because the main thread that I use is already a bit large.

You will probably find out that it's always different. This is my third game so far and that was 3 different adventures although the mechanics are similar. I mean attack or charm, etc..
But on a different planet and with a new lot of critters it changes. Also the sound effects and music make a lot of difference.
I did watch that video stream before i had the game and it didn't really spoil anything.
Remember that WW said before Spore is designed to share with your friends. And not only the sporepedia. That's just one of the tools.
Anyway in a day or so everybody will know.

I did take a few screen shots of tribe but it's very time consuming. There is no tool in the game to allow making picture stories unlike the creature editor.
So I have to "print screen" swap to picture editor, paste crop and save. Then upload them to photobucket and remember the order it happened.
And the worst is to get those creature names.

Here is just one screen until I organize the rest (and get some sleep)

Looks like a crash site. And that's at the start of the Tribe phase while i was collecting data on enemy tribes.

So you did add me.  :)  Tell me if you catch my Vykusi or Septopod, be funny if there was a tribe of them. :P

You run into a lot of creatures all the time (and I mean a lot). The main problem is taking notes and pictures.
It is time consuming and unless you pause the game it's not practical.

First of all, I found the 3 followers from the creature stage are now "Pets" in the Corral behind the hut.

The First village to appear on the map was the Brown Potaffe (Weatherman23)
They seem to be friendly enough.

But first we need food so I send some tribe member to go fishing in the Red Sea.

There is a nest of wild Sprogs near the Potaffe village and they attacked them.

I tried my new Rain Dance... Refreshing Storm complete with rainbow. Cool stuff.

The next village to appear is the Cyan Qamorrens (smjjames)

Those Qamorrens turn out to be very aggressive and they soon attacked our village.

There was a couple of other villages but I didn't get any picture. Sorry.

The Pink Eyetta (LadyM) and the Green Lotfians (Parkaboy)

I managed to domesticate one of the wild Moas (hydromancerx)

And also I killed one of the Epics (didn't note the name)

Later there was a new Lavender village (some GS member but didn't note the name)

After destroying the Cyan, allying with the Brown, Pink, Green and killing the Lavender this was the end of the tribe stage.

The Totem pole shows the villages colours and the mean of conquest for each.
An axe for destroying and a trumpet for alliance. There probably is a 3rd kind for bringing gifts but i didn't have the opportunity.

This brought us to the Civ phase after much discussion and bickering between the tribe members.
Each phase has a funny animation sequence using your own creatures.
It seems to be a different sequence according to the way you played the phase.

We started the Civ phase with a religious city. Not by choice but I guess as a result of my play style.
As Will Wright noted... what ever you do before has an impact on the rest of the game.

YES! That's just perfect for me because I WANTED the Qamorreans to be an aggressive warmongering species.

That epic btw is in fact, my very first creation, the Bakikillak.

How did the epic fight against my creature go?

I was lucky with the Epic fight because it was near another village and those Lotfian (green - Parkaboy ?) were helping.

See the size difference on the above screen shot.
