The Confederate States of America - Victoria Metagame
« on: August 21, 2008, 04:48:04 pm »
                                                         The War of Southern Secession

I worked night and day for twelve years to prevent the war, but I could not. The North was mad and blind, would not let us govern ourselves, and so the war came.
-Jefferson Davis

Not too long ago, our boys went after the forts of those greedy damnyankees who refused to get out of our rightful territory.

Now they're goin' after us!

That damned federalist leader of theirs thinks he can keep rulin' over us.

Damn it to hell if he ain't wrong!

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Surveying the state of the Confederacy, it will be a difficult journey if we intend to gain freedom from our northern oppressors.

The Democrats under Jeff Davie make up our new government.

The people of the south are willing to give up much to see freedom, and we have a sizable surplus to invest in the war of secession.

In the north, General Lee commands the army of Northern Virginia. Under his leadership we will achieve victory.

Out west, our soldiers are ready to jump into the lands that haven't yet been freed from the damnyankees, and even farther into their own homes.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

What now, congress of our fair nation, shall I send as instruction to our armies that we may crush our adversaries?

Attack Washington! Philly!

Senator,

It was only a few days ago that the assembled armies of Virginia met in Manassas to prepare for the push against the yanks. For this, I thank you, as it is my understanding that you helped get the order to the President expediently. Last night, though, picket scouts reported that an army larger than ours was marching on our position. From what our informants could collect, it seemed to be led by General Harmon under the direct command of General McClellan. Neither is a skilled man, and Reb Lee should be able to outdo them in every way, should it be necessary Off north of the railroad line, our forward unit and scouts are fighting theirs, and I hear that more yanks are coming in from Washington across the Potomac. Lee hasn't put all of the men into battle yet, and I can only surmise that he is waiting for a response from higher up.

Humbly,
Lt. Samuel Pickart

In the core of the Confederacy, congress is passing sweeping acts that gear up what little industry we can muster.

Our soldiers out west are working to regain early losses to the yanks in the Indian Territory, many of them entering southern Kentucky to take the land that rightfully belongs to the South. In the east, General Lee is on the verge of a major battle. He has not yet committed his forces, and would still withdraw if instructed to do so by congress. Yet, I have little doubt that he is a great man and would win the battle if committed.

Gentlemen, we are at war.  This is no time to be sitting back waiting for the Yankees to make the first move.  General Lee must go on the offensive.

In this context, 'twould "secession," not "succession." The South is seceding from the Union, not succeeding anyone as a ruler.

Sue for peace and form a socialist republic.

Fight!

My dearest sister,

I send you this letter with a heavy heart. In my last letter, Susan, I told you that the lieutenant was leading us up from the Shenandoah valley to Manassas to take on the yanks. When we got there, we met up with some fifty-thousand other men under Reb Lee. Sarge kept saying how we would whoop the damnyankees. Couple days after, they attacked. Reb Lee told us to hold our positions, but the yanks kept coming. Our unit was rolled back by reinforcements coming in from the west. It was terrible Sarge and Sam are both gone. You might want to tell his family, I don't think anyone has sent a letter about him yet. We're going back to the valley. Reinforcements are coming up from Richmond. I pray each night that they need not see what I have.

Your loving brother,
Jonathon

General Lee engaged in battle at the behest of the Senate.

His troops suffered outrageous casualties.

His lieutenants convinced him to withdraw to prevent a worse bloodbath.

Out west, a large Northern army in marching on Texas. Confederate soldiers in the region are being redirected to combat it.

In North Carolina, certain politicians are decrying the amorality of the north, and may be going too far.

How should we treat religion in this perilous time?

God is dead!

The Daily Dixie
August 21st, 1861

Clergymen and pastors across the Carolinas were outraged recently. His excellence Jefferson Davis was being pressured by a number of senators last week, vying for a variety of viewpoints. Shortly before shutting the door to his office, he declared that nobody should so much as breath the word God at him as long as this war progresses, and nobody should ever mention anything but that which is, in fact, extant in any political forum. Flustered, he left the senators in a rush. Whether his second comment meant that he denied the existence of God is debated, but he will doubtless make no further claims of victories based on providence. His vice president said that the president will still attend church, but nonetheless this event has sparked those without moral integrity to voice their faulty views.

The yanks have seized the far north of Virginia, while in the Shenandoah, Lee meets up with reinforcements from Richmond. He must now train them and get up their morale before joining in battle with the north again.

Out west, another Union army is marching on our liberators in Kentucky.

Currently, soldiers are being trained in Charleston for deployment, and Jefferson Davis is considering passing a draft.

When we have acquired additional soldiers, shall we send them on a renewed eastern campaign, an attack into the west, or a combination of the two, using the western soldiers to lure the yanks from their more important centers of government and culture?

To the east!

Captain J. Anderson

MESSAGE FOR COMMANDER JAMES ANDERSON. STOP. YOU ARE ORDERED TO LEAVE PORT STAUNTON AND PROCEED TO CHESAPEAKE BAY WITH THREE RAIDERS. STOP. INTERCEPT YANK FISHING BOATS AND TRADERS. STOP. SUPPORT UNITS ON LAND WHEN DONE. STOP. RETURN WHEN MANASSAS TAKEN. STOP. RETURN IN ONE MONTH OTHERWISE. STOP. CONFEDERATE BLOCKADE RUNNERS LEAVING PORT TO BE PROTECTED ON EXIT. STOP. SIGNED SECRETARY OF THE NAVY STEVEN MALLORY.

Off of the eastern coast of Virginia, a small packet of ships under Commander Anderson moved north to support future military action near to the water. They met resistance from the Yank Captain Stover in Chesapeake bay. In the Shenandoah, a detachment of northern troops engaged Lee's encampment, where the soldiers had, for the most part, completed basic training. Other yank troops were moving west to crush the armies interspersed there.

General Hood was rapidly losing ground in eastern Kentucky after the fresh troops from the north engaged his own. Additional troops are moving in from the east.

General Beaulieu of the Army of the Mississippi took military control of the far west of Kentucky, lending legitimacy to our claim. Unfortunately, thirty thousand men from the northwest are moving to drive us out. In eastern Kentucky, the battle continues to fare badly.

Back east, both battles, naval and land, were quickly won by our forces.

Only days after their initial defeat, though, the men of the north sent a large fleet after our ships.

We were forced to order Commander Anderson back to Staunton.

Worse still, a large army is marching on Staunton, and will provide them with a chance to strike at Richmond if they succeed.

The question now given here is thus.

Should Lee move up to Manassas, retake it from their weaker forces, then attack those enemies encircled in Stanton? This may provide us with a strategic advantage, and their army would be destroyed if it had no means of escape, but if the battle in Manassas takes too long, they may take control of Richmond and deal us an equally devastating blow. Our other option would be to move in defense of Staunton. If we repel their army with a great enough victory, it may allow us to pursue them up to Washington, but only if we win a victory in which much of our soldiers' morale is still intact.

"Listen to my words brothers, for a glorious day is upon us. General Lee has proven that the fire of the lord resides wholly his spirit! He has driven the Yanks from the nation of Christ the savior and back onto their god-forsaken soil. He has crushed their will and delivered a divine blow to their treacherous faces! As they lay dying and fearful, let it be known that the most fiery ring of hell is reserved for those traitors to their own heritage, and they shall forever burn in heavenly retribution! Their day of reckoning is at hand, my brothers, and the day of victory draws near!"

-Joshua Jacobs, Firebrand Virginia Minister

In Paducah, reinforcements flooded into Kentucky and prepared to expand the fight in the west.

Unfortunately, they were caught with too little preparation when a great Yankee army came crashing down upon them.

They were driven back. To the north, armies of the north plot their treacherous attacks.

General J.E.B. Stuart continues to liberate the Indian lands out west. They will prove useful allies, or citizens.

Lastly, the glorious General Lee has driven the Yanks from Virginia. The strike into Manassas destroyed the enemy, and the great leader of our armies is poised to move upon the eastern corridor. Four regiments will be available in three weeks. Should they go out west, to keep the northern forces occupied while Lee secures the US government? They could go east to hasten the process, but extensive loss of land in Tennessee or elsewhere would give the Yanks an excuse not to surrender. The troops, though, could be split between the two, even if the risk still exists of land loss to the great armies in northern Kentucky.

Where will they be deployed?

Lincoln entered the room quietly. His shoulders sloped. His eyes were dark and sunken. His cheeks were bony and his skin was drawn tight. Behind him, a colonel standing guard clasped the Oval Office's door and shut it with a soft clank. Lincoln firmly grasped his stovepipe hat and lowered it solemnly to his chest, revealing a mess of dark hair. He inhaled, drawing up the will to speak. His wandering eyes found his subject.

"Good evening, General."

The words were bleak, sad, and only hinted of his formerly jovial self.

Opposite him, about a large oak table, sat a white-haired man in a clean gray uniform.

"Good evening, Mr. President. Please sit down."

General Lee motioned to the chair in front of the dejected politician.

Lincoln sat.

General Lee pushed forward a small, decorated box. "Virginia cigar?"

Lincoln looked up at Lee with woeful eyes.

"No. Thank you General."

                                                         The Confederate States of America

...and on the afternoon of January 5th, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln and President Jefferson Davis signed the treaty that granted the states of Missouri, Kentucky, New Mexico, and Arizona to the Confederacy, alongside the territory that they had already controlled [see: Confederate Homelands]. Shortly afterward, Lincoln was impeached, but he managed to remain in office till the end of his term. In the South, reconstruction began in the border states and northern Virginia, where the Union had held sway during the war. The original Forrest plan was abandoned in favor of the Davis plan [outlined in section three], which was less strict in...

-Excerpt from A History of the Twin Giants, by H. Turtledove.

As we celebrate the fourth of July for our freedom from the British, so shall we celebrate the fifth of January for our freedom from the Yanks.

Our soldiers have returned to their families, while still maintaining a watchful guard on the border.

The North, bitter with defeat, has enforced martial law and maintains a standing army in their southernmost states.

The day after the treaty was signed, Lee began his triumphant march out of Maryland and back towards Richmond. Raucous celebration and whiskey littered their wake across the two states. These men served the Confederacy and led her to victory.

In the port that the Yanks had fought like devils to take, a small fleet of ironclads now forms, and they will defend our glorious nation for decades to come.

Our people are diverse, and yet they still overwhelmingly support those that led us to victory. The Democrats will no doubt rule Richmond until this generation has left the earth and joined their heavenly father.

Peace, though, brings discussions of other things. Religion once again came up in Arkansas. After Davis' initial outburst, it became the official position to make no mentions of religion in government circles in a purely secular fashion, to avoid controversy and possible treason on a religious basis. This policy was enacted in Arkansas.

Lastly, our nation has been left with a surplus in wake of the glorious victory.

Shall we lower taxes on the rich, to stimulate the growth of industry in our agricultural nation, or shall we lower the taxes of the poor, to stimulate immigration and reduce the risk of revolt? Further still, should we reduce taxes and institute reform in working hours, healthcare, pensions and the like? (If one of the last two options is chosen, I will put up the possible reforms to be voted upon.)

Lower poor.

Get more immigrants is going to be good.

Is it possible for a state to switch over without military action? As in, Wheeling decides the Confederacy is better, and joins us of it's own free will?

Only if rebels take control of it and hold it for a certain period of time.

Seeing as they have a massive army along the border, it's unlikely to say the least.
