Jack Thompsons Inane request

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/violent-games/jack-thompson-offers-10k-charity-for-proposal-130254.php

Hmm, he's lost his mind. What does he hope to prove by this? Not to mention it would cost more then 10 grand to design a professional video game.

#1  I would never buy any game sanctioned by Jack Thompson.  >:(

#2  Wouldn't the game itself be violent if it is a father getting vengeance?  Unless of course you're playing SimJackThompson.

(not to imply that WW would make the game.)

This guy's songs are freaking awesome! Just look at that earbean picture as my avatar!

Rockstar have got to make this game! They could have fun including themselves as enemies that need to be shot or smashed up with golf clubs. Drive a car into an arcade and smash all the machines, this is getting better and better! ;D
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

Hmm... well, It was never said what kinds of games the gamer had to play... what if it was a guy that only played Pong or Socraties games? If a guy is crazy enough to commit a coldblooded murder, It's not the type of video games he plays that made him do it...(Have you ever seen a guy run across a busy highway because of frogger?) so what's it matter what game he plays?

Edit: never mind, just saw the real proposal... read here: http://gc.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=5883
(hmmm the name of the company is "Take This" I wonder where that came from...)
(he mentions The "Postal" Games. Well no wonder he thinks games are so violent. A game like that isn't fun, just disturbing, Its a graphic shooting game with no real plot whatsoever...It gives a bad name to gamers...)

yeah, games like that are a magnet to the already violent. Its like saying that football (soccer) hooliganism makes people into hooligans.

I didn't know that his son was killed by a gamer. I thought he was just a cranky old man.

Of course, if he hadn't played Leisure Suit Larry, he wouldn't have had a son in the first place.

What the balls?

So he wants them to make a violent video game that he made up?

Thank you for the link sgore, I never actually saw the whole thing, just the link I gave.

This actually makes sense, if you're a loony. Since Thompson firmly believes games like Grand Theft Auto train people to kill cops, he's proposing that the game developers create a game that trains people to kill gamers. But in any case, $10 000 is still laughable. It would be more efficient for Take Two simply to donate that themselves.

I think he's finally snapped.

That is not just a light-hearted comment. The man is bitter.

:D Hah hah. I remember that 'World's Biggest Douchebag' song from a page in YTMND.

They should make one about Jack using that song.

Jack Thompson is one of those people who see one or two people get murdered as a result of video games (it's not even proven that it was the games that caused it. It was probably just a raving mad teenager trying to point fingers.) and spend their life trying to get rid of the video games. That's ridiculous, more people are mauled to death by dogs. Why doesn't he spend more time of his worthless life trying ot get rid of something that kills hundreds and hundreds of times more people each year, like drugs or something. The way he's going, you might as well try to ban cars to stop car crashes.

Truly, the world would be better if this guy never existed. All those anti-violent game laws are only making people's lives more complicated, and who wants that? ::)

PS- It would be hilarious if Take Two actually made this game. I wouldn't buy it, but it sure would make JT maaaad.  ;D

Remember when, if somebody was figuratively backed into a corner and started to panic, people could instantly tell that they were looking for someone to blame?

Jack Thompson enters stage left

They did, and that song is from South Park.

Sorry, I love YTMND and South Park too much to not correct you.

Seriously, video games do not warp people's minds that much.  I play Manhunt all the time at my friend's house, and I am definitely NOT homicidal.  *Quickly glances out the window to check the bodies buried in the backyard.*

It takes a lot more that $10 000 to make a video game, especially if the company gets none of it and is making a crappy game.

Well, games have not made me insane.

In fact, they have taught me many many things!

If there was ANY bad effect of video games... I would go with it making me a tad paranoid... but whats wrong with being a little paranoid?

I played the Bill Cosby Fun Game and I do not stand on the street corner, murder people with a camera, and put the bodies in a cave.

As far as you know.

Funny. but When that starts circulating around, which it most likely will, they'll get some sort of nasty e-mail from thompson. And if they try to E-mail him back in responce, he'll threaten to sue most likely saying they're stalking him. Just a guess...

"as he urinates onto the severed brain stems of the Eibel family victims, just as you do on the decapitated cops in the real video game Postal2"

This guys got some serious issues.  Apparently, Gabe and Tycho have entered the fray also, not that that is a real suprise though.

Wow, Jack, you old fart, you suck.  And at the end of his proposal:  "I dare you"...  WTF?  What a friggen moron.  He needs to... die.  I guess.  Or something.  Who would make a video game for less than 10k?  Otherwise, since nobody will buy it, no profit is made.

Oh, and his proposal... if anyone at all makes this game, he will give 10 grand to Take Two?

(Looks at Coding software(thanks Maneesh Sethi!), then realizes something like this deserves something a lame as Game Maker 5)
I think I might get Take Two a couple dollars richer, if I can find a place to sell my stickman game... Mwa...
