Clone Wars Lightsaber duels (Wii Exclusive)
« on: July 11, 2008, 09:08:34 am »

Looks somewhat promising...

Quote from: /film.com
“Clone Wars for the Wii is all about lightsaber dueling. It’s about swinging your Wii remote like a Lightsaber and recreating what we know will be classic Lightsaber battles from the movie and the show,” producer Ken Fox told IGN. “We’ve tried to make the lightsaber control as intuitive and fun as possible. It’s not a Lightsaber simulator, but when you swing your Wii remote left to right; your character does the same. You use the thumbstick on the nunchuck to move your character and swing the Wii remote to swing your Lightsaber. The buttons all do cool stuff like use the force, block and dodge, but the focus is really on putting the Wii remote in the players hand and saying ‘This is your Lightsaber!’”

Meh. It's still not a 1:1 simulation.

It would be if they could get the wiimote to stop as if it were hitting another saber...Maybe it'll rumble or something while it is.

Wii 2 will probably have antigravity in order facilitate things like this.

I remember reading somewhere that TFU uses the nunchuck for force powers, and the wiimote for everything else. This CW game is less force power focused and more sabre focused (force powers are more button linked, i've read). My guess is that this will be more like an improved version of the Episode III video game, as far as gameplay goes.

Meh. It's still not a 1:1 simulation.

They actually tried a motion sensor 1:1 game once (when RotS came out). It sucked - mainly because of the poorly designed sensor.

You could block or slash either angled ( / \ ) horizontal ( --- ) or vertical ( | ). They had a couple combos too, but they were difficult to operate.

It'd also probably suck because no matter how much we want it to be true, we aren't master swordsmen.

It'd also probably suck because no matter how much we want it to be true, we aren't master swordsmen.

Also fighting with a lightsabre just isn't natural even to a trained swordsman. Apparently on top of the virtual weightlessness (which is serious, let me tell you - actually the wiimote may be an excellent proxy for a lightsabre) which means that traditional swordplay is pretty much useless - and the films largely unrealistic - there is also a gyroscopic effect to deal with, which would play havoc with any sort of quick fencing-style swordplay which you'd expect to be the norm in that sort of combat.

Bleh. Even with aluminium like they used to do the films, it's a pain in the arse. Then again, I suppose it may just be training with steel means you need to unlearn what you have learnt about fighting when you pick up a lightsabre.

One day they will do something fairly realistic and I will be in love.

Guys, you'll just have to be patient. You can't be Jedi until 2024 when Ultimate Star Wars comes out for the Nintendo Holodeck.
Not a winner anymore.

I don't know if the Wii Motion Plus will work as well as advertised, but if it does, it could make lightsaber games a lot more realistic.

its based on the new movie
and the tv series that follows.

I saw a new trailer for the CW movie. Looks like they tried to make it less dark to compensate for RotS.

I just hope there aren't anymore gas gags than the one in the trailer. It reminded me of those sitcoms where two friends have to take care of an egg or realistic baby doll for home economics (which I have never had to do, personally). Lets hope Anakin and the togruta padawan don't have to change his diaper... ::)
