It loads like a bitch too.

This is saddening.
A friend of mine is a diehard TW fan, I wonder how he liked it.

Hmmm, now I am in two minds as to whether I should preorder the collector's edition or not...

First impressions are bad; first of all the battle took too bloody long to load and exit, in a Total War game switching in and out of battle mode quickly are needed because you'll be doing that a lot. In medieval 2 an army of Musketeers and a few cannons would take no-where near as long as the equivelent in Empire. When I finnally got into the battle my FPS dropped to around 10 although the units looked like they were copy pasted straight out of the first two Total War games and given muskets from high up. Yes, they do look good up close but I can't command men from down there.

At least the battle strategy has changed slightly, instead of just charging your most powerful units at a weak spot then support it with as many horse archers as you have you have to carefully put where you put your men and then judge the right moment of when to go in for the finaly mellee to rout them. I haven't tried the Sea battle yet, but I hope that's more fun and it definitly does sound like it.

Loading times were okay.

My ancient couter couldn't run it that well, though. Lag to the max.

The long loading times are due to the .pack files. If you unpack it with the right tools, the loading times are halved to a reasonable time. With me, it took slightly longer than the loading times of the EB mod for RTW.

The unit animations are pretty ugly when more than 100 meters away from them, but if I put the settings to max instead of medium then the strategic map stutter, I dont really have anything nice to say about this one, it doesnt feel fluid and pleasant, it feels like cardboard pieces moving on my screen on both maps .... and what do those two red bars with an arrow between them mean when you look at unit xp gain after a battle ? the manual doesnt say anything at all, and they are identical for each unit .....

Maybe I just need to give it some more time, or wait for some kind of optimization patch.

the gameplay is solid but yes...there are allot of graphical glitches and its sort of sloppy

that wont stop the game from being fun though..but i hope they fix it

Yeah, sloppy, thats the right word, the battle animations look like the ending of that family guy show where they run out of funds :)

Don't blame the game for you not being able to run it maxed out.

the animations are fine

the things that annoy me are just weird water effect glitches and stuff like that...and just zoom in on 2 ships boarding eachother...all those guys jumping through the wood its just a mess
