Rikis' Sandbox (Now with smaller pictures!)
« on: June 18, 2008, 09:15:15 pm »
I wanted to be part of the crowd  :-[

Anyways, I'll post some pictures and videos (when I get to the videos that is) of my creations.  Didn't really get to play around too much with it today due to EA's ineptitude, but that's neither here nor there.

Here's my account link: http://www.spore.com/view/profile/Alelo

Alroaxt

The creature that I want to take to sentience and beyond in the actual game, general info is in the link in my signature, that hasn't been updated in ages as I kinda lost interest.

Though it isn't as sharp as I had hoped, it is decent enough for me.  In-game it turned out to be much more birdlike than I imagined, though that's not necessarily a bad thing.

False Crown

When I first created this, it was a carnivore cause it was with the free version.  But I made it more of a pig like herbivore.

Watch out, it can poison you!

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi_JkhpcS34" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi_JkhpcS34</a>

Hjikli

A camouflage insect with a nasty bite and an even worse headbutt.

Another creature which I created with the free trial version, though when I updated to the paid full version, I changed its poison spit weapon.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lWn23UxQKU" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lWn23UxQKU</a>

Pliteko

Yet another insect.  This one is kinda two headed, but not fully.

And yep, again another free trial creature.

Plonits

This was my first truly all new full trial version.  Originally meant to be the biggest creature I could make, I changed my mind somewhat in the beginning when I wanted a large herbivore.  Its only defense is its size, not much attack wise.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAgachyowO4" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAgachyowO4</a>

Rebhe

This is mostly a joke creature.  While the Plonits is huge, this one is smaller.  While the plonits has great defense, this one is jam packed with weapons.  And yes, it is a herbivore, so you can probably avoid it.

T'wanten

I was going to make a purely snake creature, but I ended up with this.  I started it with the free version and finished it with the paid version.  I can see this becoming sentient.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQZgenAaXSA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQZgenAaXSA</a>

Kaah

A distant cousin of the Hjikli, this one lives in the desert.

Comments and criticisms are more than welcome!  Don't be shy.

Here are some more creatures, first one of my herd herbivores:

Asvet

Living in the tundra is tough, which is why these creatures stay close to the ground.  Most shrubs are short and to avoid some of the harsh winds.

Vulnas

My first bird of prey and it is huge.  Better seek a small cave to run to, or you and anything close to you may be swooped up by its powerful clawed hands.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUSGovWUc1I" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUSGovWUc1I</a>

Now for two jungle creatures that try to blend in, but are still vastly different.

Xwokie

A primate with a prehensile tail as well as three arms.  It likes to hang high in the jungle canopy and is very very playful.  Likes to travel in small groups.

Huawe

While the Xwokie lives in the jungles, this patient predator lives in the border between forests and plains to better surprise its prey.

The images are too big, that's scaring some people away I think.

The Kaah is nicely colored. It's a really interesting design.

Thanks for the tip OpD,  messed around and figured how to change image sizes with the html code from the forums.

Adding my first attempt at a real life creature, the scorpion, inspired by a thread from the General Spore section.

The animations could use a lot of work.

EDIT:

I decided to go a wild step further and explore what would happen if a cordyceps fungus were to develop against my Kaah, desipite the Kaah living in a desert and being solitary.  Here are the results:

I hate to be an ass, but now the images are a bit too small to get all the details... which is a shame! Try cropping the pictures... :-\

That's not being an ass at all!  But cropping pictures is too more time investment than I can give to this thread for now, so hopefully a change in the way I take the pictures will work better.  The camera is no longer so far away from them.

With that said, this reply is going to be dedicated to swamps and water!  So here we go;

Nujok

This was my most popular creation for a while.

It is a duck like bird that can't fly, but it makes up for it by being a pretty fast sprinter.

Kugget

This little fish can swim pretty fast and if its speed is not quite enough, it can spit a moderate poison to deter its predators.

Lodopa

This is a deep sea predator that roams the ocean floors.  If food is too scarce, they will swim closer to shore.  Their biggest danger when outside of the ocean isn't running out of oxygen and moisture, but the lack of pressure.

Trewas

Another swampy inhabitant.  This laid back predator prefers to be half submerged at all times.  It'll eat anything it can reach with its mouth.

Torwal

My second fully sentient creature.  These creatures were inspired when I failed to make a realistic turtle.  I decided to forgo my second try at a realistic creature and came to this.

They are friendly and playful, and quite bright as well.  But they are very very cowardly.

Another update, with random creatures that don't have much in common, except for being part of my small creature collection.

Houfe

My attempt at a pack dog animal.  They hunt in packs of 5-10 members and take turns taking care of each others' cubs.  They can be found wandering in forests.

Bilokam

This small omnivore rodent almost exclusively scavenges for its meat.  It will eat fruits when they are near starvation, but it is a rare sight.  They live almost exclusively in grasslands and prairies.

Dawi

This small bird is very numerous and lives almost everywhere except for cold areas.  It is not rare to see over 100 at a time.

Dahkli

Yet another insect species of the Ihhj family.  The Kaah makes its solitary life in the desert, the Hjikli wanders in the forests of its planet in small groups of 3-5, but the Dahkli swarms the caves it lives in because it'll eat anything, rotting meat, decomposing fruit, even the rocks of  its home.
