DOOM - The Movie
« on: October 01, 2005, 08:53:28 pm »
So I go to see Serenity (very good BTW) and the trailers start.

Up pops a sci-fi movie... I go hmmm... looks like Doom3.

Starring 'The Rock'... uh oh...

Cut to the 'in game shots' that are worse than what I see on my computer here (and I don't have an umber-video-card).

Here come a two hour ad for a game we've all played... ACK!

Coming to DVD and Video this holiday season... DOOM

I also saw the Doom preview last night when I saw Serenity. Wholly crap did that movie look bad! A good portion of the "movie" actually looks like the Doom game, being shown from first person view killing monsters right out of the game. I mean, I guess that would be cool in theory, but after watching this action in the trailer it looks totally stupid. Hopefully that scene isn't in the movie and was made just for the trailer.

The "good" thing going for Doom right now is that the movie is rated R, which means it won't hold back the action (an all too common occurrence these days). I hope it's going to be good, but after that trailer ... my hopes aren't up.

I have been told
not by one but two of my lovers
that I've got a heart of gold
but I'm unable to share it with others
They call me a poet who'll never have a poem
a tiger with no taste for bone
I'm the wonderful wonderful wizard who's waltzing alone

this movie looks stupid, aren't they meant to be in hell!!?? The Rock is just to cheeasy for me to take him as a serious actor, even if it is an action-star.
however, i kinda liked the 1st person thing, ive never seen that in a movie before, it was pretty cool in that regard

Oh, didn't you know? Hell moved to Mars.

I think the movie will suck... but it will do okay... I mean... they will get the gamer audience... and then they will get the larger "This is a video game?" audience.

I will see it... I probably won't like it... but I will see it.

And who knows! Maybe it will be great.

Yeah, it looks like you're watching someone else play a video game for 2 hours. I might bring an Xbox controller and pretend I'm playing just to be a jackass.

And by might, I mean I won't, but it would be funny for about 30 seconds.

I think this movie has one of two ways to go: Either it will be incredibly bad or it will be surprisingly good. There's no middle ground. If it's lame, the critics and the fans will grill it. If it's good, we are happy. Either way, when I go into a movie with the Rock fighting demons from Hell, I don't expect Citizen Kane. I expect to see the Rock deliver some tried-and-true sci-fi action lines and lots of CGI explosions and death. Really, what more could I want?

I actually like the Rock as an actor....he's funny.
This looks really bad, especially the guns they are using, common those are the lamest mock-up sci-fi guns i've ever seen.

The day before the movie comes to theaters, the movie website should be replaced with one sentence.

"lol j/k guys amirite?"

Oh yeah, it's a very safe assumption that DOOM is going to be quite the laugh, but isn't that what makes it so appealing?  I'm really excited to see it, I wish I could catch it opening night but I'm going to be helping the in-laws move.  There will be nothing about it that will constitute a "good" movie, however there are destined to be those canons that are found in all movies of the sort.  One liners, craploads of action and as little of a story to interfere with the action as possible.  ;)  I absolutely love 'B' action movies. In fact, I have a Dolph Lundgren (Masters of the Universe, Rocky IV, I Come in Peace) filmography collection started and 16 titles strong.  As long as you go to DOOM or any other movie of the sort with the mindframe that you're going to just be amused by it you could actually really enjoy it.  I know I will  ;D
