At first I was like, "Cool, Smurfs!" but then I read, "live action" and I just cringed. I guess only time will tell.

It says live action/ animation.

I'm guessing the Smurfs will be CG and everyone else will be live action. I'm thinking the story will involve a little blonde boy and a little blonde girl finding the smurfs and then unsuccessfully trying to keep them a secret from their parents. You know the plot I'm talking about  :P

Didn't I read somewhere that smurfs were communist or something?

It was a Liberal Media conspiracy to indoctrinate our children with communism and gay.

But I heard an interesting in-depth theory of it being Stalinist propoganda, Gargamel representing the Capitalist (Wanting to destroy the Smurfs for gold to fuel his dastardly business ventures) and the rebellious glasses-wearing Smurf was Trotsky, and represented as a malcontent and capitalist fifth-columnist. It was interesting insanity.

Wait.  Wouldn't it get rated NC-17?  Because as far as I can remember, Smurfs didn't wear clothes.

That WOULD be communism, actually.

Socialism is governed by one ruling body, who implements an attempt to "share" everything. Since the smurfs don't have a ruling body (Papa Smurf doesn't count), everyone IS equal, and is thus described as communism.

Sorry, but this bothers me for no coherent reason.

Also: DO NOT WANT.

Isn't the point of propaganda that it is obvious? I mean, this was supposed to work on kids and unless it send some sort of sublimal messages, it's rather hard to see the link and it's rather far-fetched since there is no proof and it has little effect like ''let's all work together and destroy capitalism hmmkay''. It's like putting a peephole in a glass door.

Anyways.. back to Smurfs...

As much as I am enjoying some of the revivals of 80's franchises such as Transformers (worried about G.I. Joe).  In all honesty I'd probably go see an animated Smurf movie, just to relive my childhood for a bit. Barring that it wasn't terrible 3D CGI smurfs. But with the introduction of live action characters, it's just kills it for me.  I'll wait until I see some stills from it, but I have my doubts.

This is like how they are re-doing Adventures in Babysitting.  Honestly, why? I'm already boycotting that.

and Gargamel will probably be reimagined as a greedy industrialist that wants to dump a bunch of toxic waste on the smurf forest or build a factory there or something, and little blonde children will help the smurfs and they'll end up fighting back and beating CEO Gargamel somehow even though legal precedent is on his side and all that happened was he got beaten up by a couple of kids which should be on their way to juvie if it was set in the real world.

Why don't they make a live-action movie out of something like Calvin and Hobbes?

Because the garfiled one worked so well.  I think comics like that would work better in a TV series setting.  I used to love the garfield cartoon when I was a kid. And the Dilbert cartoon wasn't bad either.  Right now the big thing is to remake or make movies based on popular 80's  toys/cartoons. Which is why we're seeing the smurfs.

Speaking of bad movies, ever watched Mystery Science Theatre 3000?  :D

The commentary is the best. I think Futurama actually made a reference to this show in an episode (the one where bender accidentally KOs that fighting robot in the movie theatre?).
