Improving Our World
« on: June 01, 2008, 08:45:40 pm »
Well with an off the cuff comment here came this thread .

To start, with the environment changing so rapidly, gas going up, wars consuming countries I wanted to hear the opinion of the people who matter most: All of you. Fair warning, this gets too off-topic I'll just lock it till I feel things have cooled down or if it gets out of control with spam I'm chucking it .
I'll try to change the poll compared to the current conversation on the most recent pages so expect something new to vote on every few pages or so. It's hard to keep the polls consistant because of the knack of rampant conversation changes, which is something I should expect.

Also like to add, threads that I make don't last very long (classic cartoons thread *shrug*)
so lets make this lengthy and an interesting thread shall we . Remember, play fair guys!

So to start things off, what do you all think of the current situation with Global Warming? And for that matter do any of you believe in it?
So it begins....

*Edit*

Inevitably my polls seem to go will go no where, in when that time comes a new poll.
But it's hard for me to find good subjects, and when I do they usually fail. So to be fair anyone when the time comes send me a pm for a new subject; I say this because I don't want suggestions to clutter the thread. Besides t's great to hear the opinions of others so send me some suggestions from time to time :).

Reduce the amount of cattle we consume and the world's, or specifically Asia's production of rice. Also, make water powered cars more efficient and viable for mass production.

Stop being so cautious and push forward with GM animals and crops. According to current research into the gut fauna of certain herbivores such as the kangaroo, it should be possible to produce cows which produce close to no methane.
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

Get Greenpeace to stop being so nagging about them and make Norman Borlaug head of food production in all of Africa. Also, get rid of PETA, they are a terrorist organization, or at least a terrorist-supporting organization, that's full of hypocrites. (Their Vice-President uses insulin, which was developed from animal testing)

Nuke China and India. Kill off enough off their population and destroy enough of their infrastructure to stop their increase strain on world resources. The added debris in the atmosphere will help block solar radiation and reduce global warming. The gradual increase in cancer world-wide will offset population growth. Production of world goods move to other nations. Russia would be in a position to be another major world superpower again.

I suppose this fall under genocide, but hey, we're trying to save the planet here and you need to crack a few eggs to make an omlette. That and the end result my killing millions in microseconds might be consider far more humane to some that lettig millions starve over several year when world food supplies start running out. (Asian mountain snow packs are melting and China and India are using up their ground water three times faster than it is being restored... guess where most of the rice inthe world comes from? Can't farm without water)

The added debris in the atmosphere will help block solar radiation and reduce global warming.

Actually, just wiping out China will do that... If Global Warming is man-made, that is...

Global warming is man made, there's evidence everywhere.
Wait, it's one cause for it along with natural cause's but its the main reason .

Well actually there isn't really much evidence to suggest that man has had anywhere near the effect it is said to have had.

I want to point out that I voted yes, global warming exists.

But I don't believe it is due to man.

Yeh, loads of people point at graphs showing the average global temp. since 1880 or so, and yes, surprise surprise it goes up.

But firstly, they always go up in a straight line, which is curious when you consider that in 1880 almost bugger all greenhouse gases were being given off compared to now.

And also, I have yet to find a long time graph that doesn't show a gradual constant increase in temperature for the past few thousand years.
Statistically, 6 out of 7 dwarves are not happy.

Well, of course it exists, the Earth's temperature has fluctuated throughout its history. That said, all warming that has occurred in the past century has vanished and the warming precedes the increase in CO2, but I'll set those aside.

Saying "global warming isn't entirely our fault, so we don't have to do anything about it" is an exceptionally stupid viewpoint. I'd berate you about it more, but I don't think I'd get far arguing with people willing to murder over two billion innocent people for no reason.
Not a winner anymore.

If it is our fault at all... But, still, no-one made that argument

The main purpose of that was to spark conversation and I reiterated a diffrent point in another line below that. Trust me I knew about that, just something to keep this thread going.
