No, I'm a big baby and I don't want to play any of you. Look at me, I'm a weener and I just play SSBB all to myself. I should feel guilty of choosing this option.

I dunno, I'm a big fan of shorter is better. Force people to show their mettle or be defeated, and maybe make it a best out of three affair. That way each round will remain relatively short but still have a sense of tension as well as give each player a means of redeeming themselves if they have a round that just doesn't go well.

Also are there any rewards for winning? There should be a reward or a prize.

Include me as well. Round robin sounds better and reasonable. Elimination sounds too short and wouldn't make the tournament as fun. About how long will we get to practice between matches?

Read the OP. Two weeks practice time.

Weekends seem to be the time when most of us are available so each round should be weekly.

I see. Two weeks to buy the game then practice. At least spring break's only a week away... Is the tournament annual? I'd like to see these tournaments more often...
Also, I'd say to hold off on the rules until the release. There's much more to consider.

Indeed, we just need to determine our roster system.

2-3 minutes are short.

A standard 5 stock, no time limit should be fine. Opportunists/Spectators will not be tolerated.

Awesome. 5 stock 1 vs 1 is my specialty.

Yeah, 5 stock should be short enough. Me and my friends are usually more acquainted with the length of a 10 stock match.

Being as this will be our first tournament of what I assume many, I think it should be focused more on fun than on pure competitiveness. 5 lives sounds good; I normally do 3 lives but thats with other people waiting to play, so 5 sounds fine. We should keep default items on and either random or chosen stages (not all final destination).

Yeah. Items all on and set to low. Random stages, no custom stages.

I'll want to participate, but I need to test out my internet connection.

If we do do a single-elimination set-up, can we have it be the best of 3? Because there is a chance that the first time you just had a bad match, or there was some odd factor...

There will always be those unpredictable factors no matter how much you try to hide it. That's the spirit of Smash Bros and that's what makes it fun. Plus it's not like we're on a single life sudden death here. We just need be on guard of those nasty flukes but those shouldn't hamper your fun. Plus we can always have more tournaments afterwards or just play each other on our free time.
