Honestly I never really liked the original GoW that much...

In my opinion, GoW had extremely tedious gameplay, I played through it with my brother on co-op one and never touched it again.  Every level is exactly the same thing, run, duck, shoot, repeat.  It's basically an elaborate game of whack a mole.  The story and character developent are practically non existant and it ends on a worse cliff hanger than Halo 2.  I was literally getting ready for the next level, when the credits started rolling.  I never really tried the multiplayer though, so maybe there was something there that was really amazing.  But I did think it was stupid that the single player campaign has about four weapons, and there's hundreds of multiplayer exclusive ones..

But you have to admit it was an amazingly stylish and fantastically excecuted game. The lack of weapon variety was definitely a big flaw, especially given that half the weapons they *did* give you were useless (I'm looking at you, every weapon except the chainsaw gun, the sniper rifle and the bow). I think thats partially made up for by the satisfaction of sawing a locust in half or blowing its torse apart with an explosive arrow.

Here's a real trailer for the game! Man after almost  2 years sense the first game I thought I was over it and I wasn't going to get #2. After watching this trailer, how could you not want to play this game?

*Almost forgot, you should be able to download it from XBL Marketplace.

I thought it was a boring game.
I think we played different games.

Personally, I really enjoyed GOW.  Though it had some serious failings (lack of maps/options) the multi player was a blast.  Four on Four was a nice if you were playing with friends.  Setting up suppressive fire to let the rest of your team attempt to flank was great.
I liked how individually powerful each character was.  You start on even ground, with similar weapons however, even having the superior weapon pickup was in no way a guarantee of victory.  A number of times I won games that start 3v1 or even 4v1.

The single player campaign was pretty standard as far a FPSs go.  Convoluted story basically amounting to: Kill monsters, defeat final boss.  However, there were some great parts.  Having to get the one monster to chase you and diving out of the way at the last second so he would break open the wall was fun.  So was trying to avoid him long enough to use the hammer of dawn.

I should also mention that my fondest memory of this game was when I took down a Frag Doll on the PC version using 360 controllers (Which is just so terribly wrong).  My partner had her and another COG team pinned and I chainsawed them both.  :)

I don't see what was so great about Gears. I know 3rdps games are repetitive but this one seemed to be the most repetitive and the whole cover system tied into your running really annoyed me.

Opps my bad about fps but still its a shooter.

it just seems like the human shield thing isn't going to work at all... Can you imagine how it will work, or not work, in multiplayer? Or even in the single player campaign, it seems kind of like a gimmick to me, and that they haven't come up with anything that would make it better than the first game, other than sending hundreds of locust at you.

well i imagine you cant do it to any corpse, i belive it will be for incapacitated locust only, so it is another option instead of Curb stomping because you snap the neck of you shield and i doubt you would do that to a corpse :P

and plus, it wouldnt last forever, the guy you use will prolly get shot to bits if he gets hit enough, and it might not be in MP

Yeah I just don't believe it's in character for the Locusts to even shed a thought for the safety of a fellow grunt. Although I suppose it was act as a semi effective bullet-sponge.

how i see it that its just protection until the other locust shoot him to shreds, i dont think they will cease fire altogheter in fear of harming the shield

Even when I just had bought this game I didn't really enjoy playing it, I didn't want to play it. It was plain boring, well, I got bored after 10 secs. I played through it though since I got it for christmas and I didn't want to be rude, and after I played it through I dissliked it even more. I can't understand how people can praise this game so much.

I'm sure just like anything that a lot of people like it and dislike it. I loved the first one. I spent days and months playing it. I played the single player over and over until I could beat insane in less than 6 hours on co op, then I played the multiplayer for months. But to each his/her own.
On the topic of the human shields, I can see it turning into one of those things that is there but that no one actually uses, like the curbstomp/ chainsaw online. I'm am really hoping that it doesn't work the other way around, though, and that locusts aren't able to pick up your guys, who you have to keep alive.

curbstomp/ chainsaw online.

Don't use chainsaw online? Are you crazy or something? I killed four guys in a row using the chainsaw, with my other three allies already dead in one game for example. Not to mention the countless times I curbstomped a guy to make sure his friend nearby didn't get him up since he was close enough, same thing with ambushing people with the chainsaw for an easy kill that didn't require wasting ammo.

for the few of you that are still interested in this game, as i appear to be one of the few fans on these forums :P

i have learned that the limited edition will contain:
-A metal game case
-Bonus content Disk
- a book entitled "Beneath the Surface: An Inside Look at Gears of War 2" (which includes concept art and story-related information)
-A keepsake photo of Dom and Maria
- and a key to unlock a golden lancer rifle for online play

personally, everything else sounds great, but the golden lancer seems stupid in my opinion, i just hope that you can turn it on and off in a menu if you unlock it, so it isn't permanant, but if thats not the case, i just will give away my code :P

also i fixed my last post, the link is now up

Fiddlestix...i made a grave mistake.

I haven't been able to afford live for awhile right?. Well a buddy of mine gave me 10 48 hour live cards...thats 20 days of live i was grateful and took them since he diden't need them (already had live).

2 days ago i made a grave mistake with them...i assumed that they stacked and i put them in at the same type..ha..ha....here i am today without live again!. They don't stack! ARGH.

Anyway even without being able to play online Gears 2 is pretty sweet. It impressed me much more as a sequel then Halo 3 did anyway.
