Crack.

Crack-crack.

We squirm. We wiggle. We try to get out of the hard shell of a thing that we have called home for as long as time itself.

Crack.

We are out. We live. We breathe. We are hungry.

Something moves. We squirm away from the large thing that pursues us. We leave many others in Home but it does not matter. Life matters. This matters. We are hungry.

We get away. Something moves. We feel it. We draw closer. It is small. It is nestled in the crack of the thing which is now Home. We place our mouth on it, and suck down upon it until we drain the nourishment from its hardness. It is good. We are not hungry. We sleep.

...

We awake. We squirm. We wiggle. We are out of the hard shell of a thing which we have called Home for as long as time itself. We are hungry.

We plod out. We are alone. We are hungry. We feel the nooks and crannies of the Living Place with our apendage. We are hungry. We find Nourishment. It is small, and squishy, and has come out of a hard shell of  a thing, along with many others, that it has called home for as long as time itself. We feast, for they do not matter. Life matters.

We are not hungry. we lumber back into the hard shell of a thing which we then called Home. We spread our sun-catchers wide, allowing the sweet heat to beat down upon us and empower us for another day of hunting. Another day of Life.

We sleep

...

We are awake. Our sun-catchers, tall of elegant, flutter in the waves. We feel the heat and the light on us. We feel, for it is good. We feel many things, coming out of the hard shell of things they have called Home for as long as Time itself. We feel this, and something else. The feeling that we must urge something out. From the folds of our velvety self comes a large shell of a thing. It is filled with many of Our kind, we know this. We do not know how we know this, but we do. We know this because it is Life, as Life is and Life was and Life always will be. We feel. We soak up the heat, and the light. We Live.

We are alive.

...

We are indeed. As you can see, we are a small slug-like organism, dull in coloration aside from our bright red wings, which are used dually to photosynthesize and to camophlauge ourselves with the bright background of stuff that we live on. The long arm popping out from the front is simply a grasper to grab ahold of food, our mouth is on our underside, along with our round, lumpy legs. We are able of chewing both flora and fauna with "teeth" made from shell. You can see this on the picture on the bottom-middle. We feel vibrations in the water, and we can sense sunlight using our wings, using very primitive eyespots on the inside of the wings. We are also able to taste the water with our arm to look for food hiding.

On the bottom right you can see our larval stage. We are simply a little tadpole-like organism with no sensory ability aside from our ability to feel vibration in the wild. We can barely survive, but when we are born there could potentially be thousands of us in a single pod, so the species lives on.

As adults we are simply phtosynthesizers, stuck in one place with no ability to move. Our only purpose in this stage is to soak up sunlight, and to reproduce. what was once our mouth is now something that expels primitive roots into our living area, which abosorbs minerals and chemicals. We expel a shell-like- egg-case which contains thousands of offspring once every few months.

Our lifespan, from birth to death, is only a few weeks at the most. But times are changing, and so are we. But... how ARE we changing?

BAH!

this is AWESOME!

It feels familiar to a story I read, though, by Stephen Baxter.

But on another note I REALLY enjoy the feel of the story.  Yeah.

I'd explain better but I'm tired.  Keep it up! ;)

We are alive.

We feel the heat beat down on us. It empowers us, letting us live.

Eternity goes by.

We are alive.

We feel the heat beat down on us. We are tall, and regal. Our velvety Self captures the Heat in Its velvety Self. It is Good, for it is Life.

We feel. We feel that we must urge something out from the velvety folds of our Self. A hard shell of a thing comes out, and it is filled with Us. With Our Kind. We know this, for it is Life, and Life is as Life was and Life always will be.

We snake out our Self from the folds of our Self to glue the hard shell of a thing to the Home. For there are Others. Others that will come, eat Us, and Our Kind. We have to protect Them. We must protect them. For that is Life, as live is and Life was and Life always will be.

We are alive.

Something moves. We can Feel it. We can Taste it. It is coming for Us. But We do not matter. Life matters. We are Alive.

And then We are not.

Over the years, We have changed. We have gotten much larger, for the water around us has started to move faster for some reason, giving us much more to eat. Our wings have gotten better at catching the sun's rays, allowing us to gain more energy, and keep the extra sugars for times when there is little. Also, our seeds have become more advanced. They can now use organic matter that falls on their "roots" to keep the young inside alive. This has made it so our young are slightly more advanced, and larger, when they hatch, giving us a better survival rate.

Unfortunately, a new threat has arisen. Along with the food the water has brought us, it has also brought us enemies. This has caused problems with us, for it tends to eat everything. Our prey, and us. What shall we do?

We squirm. We wiggle. We try to get out of this Hard Shell of a Thing that we have called home for Eternity.

We attack all of the other Squirmy Things that get in our way. They are Good. We are out. We breathe. We set upon a large group of Squirmy Things that are getting out of a Hard Shell of a Thing that they have called Home for Eternity.

We are tired. We sleep. Eternity goes by.

----------------------------------------

We are awake.

We plod out of cranny, we can feel the Warmth on our Self. We are hungry.

We set out on the Home, tasteing our way to tidbits of Nourishment. Suddenly, we feel a presense. We shoot our Self out at him as fast as The Maker has let us do so. It stikes true.

We are hungry. Our Self has brought back with it a Squirmy Thing that is sharp. We squeeze the Thing.

It stops Squirming. We are hungry. We feed.

And then, as soon as We begin, the Home moves. It shakes, it tumbles, and a loud noise comes forth from the Home. We are confused. We taste, and feel, something larger than we could ever have had imagined forcing itself down onto our Home.

We are swept away into the Depths. It does not matter, really, though. For We do not matter. Life matters. And we are Alive.

And then, we are not.

As the years have gone by, times have changed and so have we. We are now quite a bit bigger, capable of eating most things that surround us, even if we cannot truly see them. Our senses of taste, smell, and feel are adequate for that.
As you can see, we have surpassed simple skin breatheing and now have external "gills!" These are much like a salamanders, and have made it much easier to get oxygen from the water, and with oxygen comes size. So we have gotten roughly 1/4 the size and weight of our previous state!
Our mouth has moved forward, taking a place right below our tentacle, so that it is easier for us to eat things in front of us, and we wouldn't have to make the slow crawl up the side of whatever it is we are eating.
Speaking of crawling, we have developed three pairs of "legs." More like stubs, really, but they suffice, and have made us increase in speed quite a bit.
But the most dramatic change is our tentacle. Before it was more of a feeler than a grasper, now it is a full-blown grappling hook. It can shoot out quickly to capture unexpecting prey, then retract back in to let the food into the mouth. To take it all in, there is also now a small bumb on the "face" of us, allowing more space for our retractable tentacle to... retract.
Alas, despite these changes, we could not forsee other things to change as well. Our homes, the places of our birth, are now being attacked by large... somethings. To help us in the desperate situation, how will we develop?

Oh, you'll see. You'll see. ;)

I am purposefully keeping certain information from the populace, as it will make it more "mysterious" and "flabergasting" and "stupid" when I slowly reveal everything.
