National Anthems, good and bad
« on: February 28, 2008, 08:39:52 pm »
Good:
-Mexico (it's a fight song. An epic fight song)
-USSR (why don't we sing before government meetings?)

Bad:
-USA (it's about war but is slow-paced. Also impossible to sing)
-Japan (it's as if every game composer is making up for this sucky song)

Sweden - First verse concerns the beauty of Sweden. Good. Second verse concers how bad-ass we used to be back in the day. Better. Third verse is some mumbo-jumbo about serving it's honor and the fourth tells us to stick to old, God-fearing ways(lol) and that there's nothing better in the world.

No-one knows the two last ones tho.

I only know the first   :-\ Mainly cause most teachers thought thatby singing the national anthem we were patriotic. They think patriot=racist. Really, if everyone would sing the national anthem it wouldn't be a problem.

I think quality more depends on who's performing it at the time.

Either way, Freedonia beats everyone.

Hail Hail Freedonia!  8)
What meme is relevant right now? Look, just imagine I'm riffing on that. Updating signatures is exhausting.

The U.K. probably has the worst national anthem going. Bill Bailey offers an alternative.
Not a winner anymore.

the soviet anthem will probably go down as the greatest national anthem of all time

i say that Russia's is just as good as the USSR considering it has the same rhythm but somewhat worse lyrics, but for you guys who don't speak russian, it doesnt make much difference  ::)

Israel has a very moving anthem, search up " HaTikva"

France also has a powerful energetic anthem called The March (Marseille)

South Africa has an anthem with 5 different languages in it, thats pretty cool

^those are the top 5 imo

the worst: Austrialia  :'(

Indeed. It is dull and entirely about the Queen, and has pretty much nothing to do with Modern Britain.

Nor does Rule Brittania, but it's a better anthem.

When it should be "Britain were teh pwnz, but are now rather second rate and must live on past glories."

God Save the Queen doesn't make me swell with patriotic pride. Rule Brittania does, aswell as giving me an odd urge to sail off valianlty into the sunset to find someone to oppress.

La Marseillaise is the anthem that gets me pleased the most, along with the Uzbekistan anthem, have you guys heard theirs? It's a great meldody in my opinion.

The USA's anthem is ok,  I'm kinda indifferent about it, but I find it interesting that people have no idea that there's more than one verse.

Actually the USSR's anthem is pretty awesome.

Someone needs to do a metal cover of it.
