A Suntus Transmission
« on: February 24, 2008, 06:01:30 pm »
In the Suntus year 21785T, the first radio construct was created.

The nations of the planet were in turmoil over the divinity of the stars.

The first message was a plea unto them, asking for a response in the melodic Suntus voice.

//Is someone there?
We'd like to know.
If you are there,
Please tell us so.

We come in peace,
And you will find,
In loving friendship,
We will bind.

Suntus is,
Our given name,
And if none hear this;
A horrid shame.

So when you find this,
Plead to stars,
Free us from,
Our planet's bars.//

A century later, the transmission began being received by the advanced species.

What became of this forlorn species?

Captain Grakus of the Zakraa reclined in his chair. He was Captain of one of the few vessels sent out by the Zakraa to explore the galaxy. He had just had a run in with a pair of raiders, so he wasn't in such a good mood. Suddenly, his screen showed that a transmission of unknown origin had been received and recorded. A quick scan showed it was of a language that had never before been encountered, and was made with primitive technology. A second or two later it told him the transmission was first broadcast around a century ago. It was a somewhat poetic message, and felt morbid. It also revealed that the species name, the nation name or the broadcasters name was Suntor. Zakraanian policy dictated that he had to investigate, and then initiate contact if it was not a great threat to galactic safety. He tracked the origin of the signal and jumped to the system of origin. Upon arriving, he scouted the system and found the planet. There were rudimentary objects in space, and the ground showed habitation. There were no threats of any sort found after a quick sweep, so he sent a transmission to the most powerful satellite dish array.

//To the inhabitants of this planet, I say hello. I am Captain Grakus of the Zakraa, and a I am on a mission of peace and exploration. We received a transmission from this system dating to around 100 Galactic Standard Years ago. We are here to initiate contact and investigate what could be interpreted as a distress call.//

Soueso ran from the room and into the settlement.

"Friends and brothers,
Of the Suntus name,
We have achieved,
our great final fame!"

"What do you say?" Said the nearest one by,
"And if it is so in what possible way?"

"Come into here
And you will then find
That the message we sent
Has been replied to in kind!"

"What message do you speak of?
I recall no thing sent.
It must have been before me,
That such a thing went."

"Indeed it was brother,
Two generations ago.
From this same location,
And now you must know,
That purpose of the message was,
A plea unto the stars,
And our forefathers begged them,
To release them from our bars,
The bars of this planet,
So unkindly bound,
And now see our transmission,
Has been finally found!"

"Respond then post haste,
And I will go off,
What is faced by our people,
Deserves more than a scoff!"

The villager made his way down the road toward the local transmission station.

Soueso returned to the spatial transmitter.

//Being of the skies,
Let yourself know
Since the message was sent
There is far more to show
In the skies fly our ships
And across planet our suum*.
These people of Zakraa,
From where do they come?//

*Transport vehicle akin to an automobile.

((There's more than just rudimentary objects in orbit, think the technological level of Earth in 2040 or so.))

OOC: He means rudimentary in comparison to Zakraanian technology, which is now a galactic power. I mean no ill will.

Grakus listened to the transmission and sighed. His communications officer said "Do they normally converse through poems, or are they just honoring us?". Grakus didn't know what it was, but he remembered the first thing he was taught in Exploratory College: 'All Aliens are Strange'. He quickly sent a reply.

//The Zakraa come from a planet called Zakr, many many light years away. Once we are sure that you are not going to horribly slaughter our people, we would be happy to supply you with the coordinates. Now, as a member of the Zakraa Exploration Corps, I have to offer you a choice. You can allow us to engage in diplomatic exchange, which would benefit you as a people, as well as letting you become part of the larger galactic stage. Or, you can reject diplomatic exchange, and we will leave you in peace to advance at the rate which your race sets, joining the galactic stage when your own technology makes it necessary. We await your reply.//

//Forgive me newcomer,
But now I must say,
Why do you still,
Talk such a way?
Is our translator broken?
No scheme to your speech,
Your phrases they end,
Without perfect reach,
But forget I said this,
It bears no matter,
I must wait for our leaders,
To come, after chatter.//

Some time later, a deeper tone song began transmission.

//This is first one Ousi
Leader of the people.
I come from the capital;
It's highest steeple,
And friend you know,
That it is to be,
Our greatest desire,
Is that to be free,
So take us upon
This 'galactic' trip
To the oceans of stars
To take a small dip.//
