Proving People Are quite sick - The Intercept
« on: February 19, 2008, 08:13:33 am »
Their was a Russian TV show where the first thing they would do is give the contestant the grand prize.

That's right, in the Russian show "The Intercept" the first thing they did was give them a brand new car and as the contestant drove away (by now quite happy) in his new car, the game show hosts would then phone the police and report the car stolen.

The police would then give chase and they have an agreement whereby if they evade the police for 35 minutes they win the car and if they're caught, they are savagly beaten right their on the roadside. Now since the contestants knwow their is going to be a chase many of them come up and prepare quite ingenious plans before hand, one even drove his car onto a boat and sailed away but again only a handful of people ever won as the show was propaganda and made to show that you stood little chance of escaping the police.

now this is a fine idea for a show to me, do whatever you want aslong as the contestants give informed consent then i don't care.

what i would like to point out is that this show had 85 million viewers.  85 million people enjoyed watching a program that consisted of a car chase and a savage beating.  makes me wonder how many people would watch a televised beheading if they showed that BBC1.  The only reason british and american versions havn't sprang up is because of the obious dangers of this kinda ****.

although i must admit, rightnow i am looking for some DVDs of this show.

Aside from the savage beating I think the idea of the show is great, even the thought of it makes me laugh, I need to find this on youtube or something.

they should do a british version that doesn't have the beating (although thats kinda important) and is done on some a big set of a town where a random passerby can't be run over.

They'd never get the insurance.

Wouldn't the filming of this show provide an ideal opportunity to go out and really steal a car, while all the police are distracted?
Not a winner anymore.

Instead of a beating they could go to jail for a few days. A real jail, but their own cell? A fine?  Although neither of those is as visually stimulating as a police beating. You would probably have to get them to do something embarassing in public.

It's actually not hard to get sreets blocked off. It's often done for movies, and commercials. And an urban chase would be much more entertaining to watch.  But even if you could close off a section of a town, you most likely still have padestrians who could be hurt.

Sounds about 5% as bad as that show Kid Nation.

its more liley to be done if a foriegn country with more lax laws.

Takeshis castle would be lawsuit after lawsuit after criminal charges being filed if it were in weastern europe or north America.
