Need a good dvd editing program
« on: February 05, 2008, 10:00:15 am »
Hey all, my parents recently bought a new movie, and they want me to edit the movie by removing a few scenes they don't like. I've been playing with some trialware programs today and haven't found any I like. It would be nice to find a program that I could just edit the .vob files from the ripped VIDEO_TS folder instead of converting the video to mpeg and back again.

Any thoughts?

Wow, this makes me realize how long it's been since I was an active user here.

DVD editing I thought you meant making a DVD menu but reading you're post

They want you to edit a movie to remove scenes they don't like? What the hell?

sums up my thoughts. Personally I'd tell them to skip to the next chapter. Depending on the DVD they might lose large chunks of the story. I don't think you will actually find anything meant to edit DVD's. That's not really in high demand, as far as I know. Then again last tie I did anything of that sort was years ago.

You might want to mention to them what they are asking you to do is illegal. If they still insist don't cut out the scene just replace it with a slug with white text saying something like "You asked me to edit these scenes out, so I did, enjoy the movie"
My karma ran over your dogma

I second this notion.

The Terminator?  What?

Tell them if they didn't want to see Old Yeller get shot then they shouldn't have bought the movie.

My parents let me watch Bram Stroker's Dracula when I was 5 (or 6, I forget).

The Francis Ford Coppola one, with Gary Oldman as Dracula.

I still consider it the best Vampire movie ever. :D

Is not editing the video a copyright violation?!? >_>

Anyway i do not care. As long as it is for personal use. I am not sure what program that would be good to use however. Some recommend Adobe but many just use Microsoft's editing software.

Adobe Premiere is my favorite for that, and more accurate than the windows one.

Still might be a copyright violation. But it depend on where you live to. The Copyright law is not the same in every county. Or for every media.

Anything can be changed, improved, restructured for a different watching experience and only the sky is the limit. You need to own the original DVDs to legally watch them.

if you have the original DVD then it should be fine. i mean, you put your cash into a dvd just to watch them? i mean c'mon, when you buy a DVD, you should have the right to do whatever you want with that disk.
