Rome
« on: September 02, 2005, 04:11:37 am »
Steve mentioned the HBO miniseries Rome in his podcast. I'm also watching it. It's very good so far. Lots of blood, violence and nudity. Good ole HBO. Is anyone else watching this?  It looks to be a good series.

I pruchased COX digital cable, got myself like 200 channels including all the flix/encore/IFC, the military channel, etc. But the 2 things I really wanted, G4 and HBO, I don't get. I'm trying to negotiate with COX to get G4, told them I'd happily do away with BYU TV (stay off my TV, mormons) or something like that, but HBO is an extra $10 a MONTH. To heck with it, I'll buy the DVDs of the series in a couple years.

Looks like a very good show, I'm huge into all things rome :)

Bleh, don't even bother with G4 and concentrate on HBO.  I used to watch Tech TV all the time and when I got to see it again as G4, I could not believe how horrible it was.  I watched it for a few hours of hell just to see if it would get better and it didn't.

Gotta admit it would still be better than BYUTV
Besides which the main reason I like it is for X-Play. Not so much the reviews just the hosts poking fun and genreally having a good time.

I just watched the latest episode of Rome. *Spoiler*

A ship was lost at sea and two of Caesar's soldiers were washed ashore on an island. Everyone else was dead. A few days later they tied bloated dead bodies together and made a raft (out of dead bodies) :o and floated out to sea and managed to wash up on the mainland. Caesar and Pompey had their battle, Pompey lost and fled to Egypt where he was beheaded.  Coming up next in new episodes is Egypt and Cleopatra.

I love the show, but it is sometimes a bit hard to follow with just so much going on all the time. Make sure that you check out this site which does a great recap of each episode every week:

I watched the last episode of Rome last night. Wow! I wish it wasn't over. It was a good show. If you haven't seen it, do. I'm sure HBO will re-play it for awhile.

Its still near the beginning here in the UK (odd because it was a co-production with the BBC). I like the show but all the explicet sex and violence seems to have been tacked on just so they get complaints and since all publicity is good publicity, attract more viewers.
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

well being set in Ancient Rome all the sex and violence isn't exactly going against the historical grain.
