Time Magazine gave it a C+. From what you said Gauphastus that sounds dead-on.

Came out July 1st. Went to go see it. I agree with Gauspastus. The first half was fairly funny but the second half was slow and had not real direction.  My friend had seen part of a pirated copy and knew the twist in the movie. It was painfully obvious and I called it extremely early on.

I also thought WIll Smith looked REALLY old. It's like his face really matured. I caught myself a few times during the movie reminding myself that was actually Will Smith.

Jesus, I heard about the twist in this movie. Where was the movie we were promised in the trailers?

Funny thing about the site name too.
But yeah, the article reveals a few things that happened as time went on.

Bleh.

That article is pretty accurate. It seemed like halfway through the movie become something entirely different. It wasn't bad per se, but it was so different from everything that had happened before that it seemed more like watching two seperate movies.

Its only redeeming feature I that I could choose to stop watching at the halfway point and ACTUALLY see a good movie.

I have no idea why, but I really, really hate this site for having my username.

I've never seen it anywhere else on the web, so I guess I'm annoyed about that.

I agree, again I go back to what I said, they threw in the twist which pushed the movie in this totally different direction and the whole second half of this movie was this mess.. It was like they were trying to figure out a quick way to get it done. Did they ever say that line in the trailer. The news reporter saying "Hancock is down, it looks like he's hurt"? I don't know if I just missed it or not.

---SPOILERS---

I was sort of confused with the criminals. The one scene they claim Hancock took their power. Which sorta hinted they may be evil versions of Hancock. And The wife said "they" hunted all the ones like them.. or something like that.  Which sorta caused confusion. I think a better twist would have been if Jason Bateman was part of some evil entity or something that has been hunting these people for all time. And at the end Jason Bateman killed Hancock and the wife killed him.

Its not literal power, its metaphorical power!  i.e. intimidation.

I liked it, and i think it was worth me following all those years.
Yeah, it does sort of diverge into two separate movies, and the ending is very 'Hollywood', but it's still a great film.
The effects are great.
It's very funny.
The story, if slightly predictable, is still far more original than a lot of films currently out, and more original than 50% of Will's movies.
And it's all explained to some degree, if not quite set up properly.

--Spoilers--

Yes, you can kind of guess the main twist pretty early on, but the ending could've gone a number of ways. Personally I was hoping for a 'if one dies, they both die' thing.
I was also quite happy that they didn't use any "that's why the sex was so good" lines when the husband discovers the truth...

I have to agree that the effects were really well done. Specifically how things got destroyed. When Hancock picked up a car, the car (for the most part) didnt have supermans anti gravity support, the cars deformed around where he held it, and didnt freeze in one form after being crumpled (they continued to flex and bend as he held them). There are a few exceptions, but the destruction is the least "suspension of disbelief" destroying thing about this film.

Just got back from this. Good movie, but as others have said, starts great, ends flat. If you want an idea fo the 'flow', watch the first half of Men In Black and then the second half of Blade Runner. (yes the transition is almost that bad).

Good cheap seat movie. Worth renting.

I said to a friend "It starts off with Superman and ends with Highlander."
