Man, this used to be my absolutely favorite show on TV. I loved when it was actually an hour and a half long and Leo and Pattrick were on the show. It was the only show I could watch and be guaranteed to learn something new about computers and programming every single day. I would sometimes watch this show twice in one day I loved it so much.
And then it was cut down to one hour and they got a live audience, but the show was still great. Sure you couldn't get a much geeky goodness into 60 minutes, but it was still a quality show. And the audience added a crazy element which was fun.
But then TechTV was sold to G4 and Leo was fired. That was the beginning of the end. I tried to watch it on G4 these last few months, but it just wasn't the same. They took out all the technology segments and put in ... I don't know. What the hell did they put in? I guess the various news items were interesting, and Kevin Rose & Sarah were cool, but everyone else on the show was freaking annoying. But I would put it on every so often, just sort of in the background, not really watching.
But then, last Friday they announced that The Screen Savers was no more. Friday was the very last show after being on the air for seven years. I guess it was inedible, and it was painful to watch my beloved show slowly die, but now it's gone forever. The last of TechTV is now dead and G4 had destroyed what little spirit was left of that wonderful station. I miss you TechTV … and I will miss The Screen Savers.
