The Screen Savers is dead
« on: March 21, 2005, 12:13:39 am »
Man, this used to be my absolutely favorite show on TV. I loved when it was actually an hour and a half long and Leo and Pattrick were on the show. It was the only show I could watch and be guaranteed to learn something new about computers and programming every single day. I would sometimes watch this show twice in one day I loved it so much.

And then it was cut down to one hour and they got a live audience, but the show was still great. Sure you couldn't get a much geeky goodness into 60 minutes, but it was still a quality show. And the audience added a crazy element which was fun.

But then TechTV was sold to G4 and Leo was fired. That was the beginning of the end. I tried to watch it on G4 these last few months, but it just wasn't the same. They took out all the technology segments and put in ... I don't know. What the hell did they put in? I guess the various news items were interesting, and Kevin Rose & Sarah were cool, but everyone else on the show was freaking annoying. But I would put it on every so often, just sort of in the background, not really watching.

But then, last Friday they announced that The Screen Savers was no more. Friday was the very last show after being on the air for seven years. I guess it was inedible, and it was painful to watch my beloved show slowly die, but now it's gone forever. The last of TechTV is now dead and G4 had destroyed what little spirit was left of that wonderful station. I miss you TechTV … and I will miss The Screen Savers.

They cancelled the screen savers?

I walked into school today and my main friends i hang out with were talking about the screen savers.
Guess this is what they were talking about.

Anyways I never liked the screen savers(let alone i don't have my screen saver on cause its pointless 8)). It was boring as hell, but even if it was boring as hell, the other guys that use to host it were better and u learned something, and all the new hosts talk about is video games.

Well, that sucks. I watched TTS for about 4 and a half years. I loved Leo. Heck, I check his blog just about every day. Ever since G4 took over TechTV I stopped watching. That crap that they call G4TV isn't worth watching.

G4 is a POS channel...
I couldn't stand what they did to the first hosts of Arena (Travis Oates and Wil Wheaton), and now they destroy the Screen Savers...

And Arena will never be the same without Oates and Wheaton... forgive my spelling, it's been a while.

I never actually watched TechTV or the Screensavers since I never had access to them (I don't have digital cable or satellite). The G4/TechTV website has some parts of their shows as streaming video. I've watched a couple and they were great.

I found out about them through Kevin Rose and his online show "the broken," if anyone's ever seen that. I really wish I could have seen it, since it did sound like a really interesting show!

Yeah, I saw it tonight. It was okay. I guess The Screen Savers really died when TechTV was sold, but I'll miss the old show with Leo and the gang.

I, unfortunately, did not get to see The Screen Savers before TechTV was bought out. However, I did like what I was able to see and am pretty mad that the show has ended.

I've been a Tech Tv watcher for a long time - and only a casual viewer of G4.   Almost all the good shows of Tech Tv are gone... No technical device reviews - no industry news, no help call ins.   Lose your best hosts?  Lets move people from San Francisco to Los Angeles and then can them within a month or so.    WHAT are they thinking?

And what are we getting ? One on Cars and Girls?

Their latest ad campaigns have made it seem like everyone on Attack of the Show is involved with illegal web activities -- And the new host of Cheat! on one episode I watched talked of shoplifting something in one script. X-Play scripts seem to be getting more and more anti-Republican with at least one jab every show or so.

I'm seriously irked at Comcast.

Poor, poor x-play. That used to be a good show, but everything seems so rehearsed now. I'm just waiting for the canned laughter. :'(

X-play used to be great. I liked it before Morgan joined, and I liked it even more after she did. But in the last few months it seems like they changed the show to appeal to just 12-year-old kids. All those stupid stupid jokes in the middle of the reviews and silly animations. Who the heck cares about that crap? Just review the game and talk about the game and save the jokes for another show.

I don't even bother turning on G4 anymore it's so damn bad.

Yeah, I was a casual watcher of Tech tv, Screensavers with Leo and Patrick was great, but the new hosts and everyone leaving for different shows just kinda bottomed out and got boring.

X-play is one of my favorites, it really is getting too quirky and not to the point.  I was really excited to see their coverage of the GDC, I watched it up to the end and they were doing this fish gag for half the show, I kept telling myself, 'any minute now, they'll mention spore' but nope, nada, nothing.

*sigh*

I really liked the channels being seperate, if I wanted to learn and watch about hardware, computers and the lot, I'd put it on Tech Tv. If I wanted to watch something about games, I'd watch g4...  Is it just me or did that huge game awards thing felt weird, not like when you watch the other award shows... I dunno...

X-play is begining to annoy me..... It will have a 5 min review of a game and not tell me anything about the game. It will just score it and show me clips that make no sense

well I'm to yuong to have seen TSS from the begining ( I being 14 almost 15) I only saw it after G4 bought it and I found it really annoying. X-play is also somthing I don't think I watched (but I could of). I useto watch G4 everyday but then Arena began to sink when they got rig of the old hosts (I know there names but I just can't remeber right now). and I would keep going but its dinner.

I remember that show from about a year ago. However the shows that I caught were filled with Leo plugging his book every other sentance. I mean I understand one plugging one's book on one's own show...but Leo over-did it a bit. Good show otherwise.

I was glad when they got rid of Leo, he seemed obnoxious. Whenever Kevin was about to say something interesting, Leo would just interrupt and steal what he was going to say. Not only that, he wasn't as cool as Kevin. They should have just made Sarah the co-host.

The only good show left on tech TV is the one they can't ruin: Cinematech.  How they going to destroy it? Give it a new host?  A stupid punk-rocker-ripoff set?

I miss iit too.
At least we have Leo on CFH at 9AM.
I hav heard that he wants to make CFH similar to the Screensavers of old, and that he wants Patrick to be there too.
Let see what happens.

Things to do when I win the lottery #120712

-Hire Joe and Patrick to help create shows a new TechTV-style network.

#120712b
-Buy out Adam and Morgan's contracts and give them a new show on same network, lauch mightily as the X-Play interns try to take over the show and fail miserably.

I dont think even the best rollover prize is enough money to buy a TV network.

All the old cast of screen savors is still doing a podcast show called This week in tech.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_week_in_tech

Also, Call for Help is pretty good but it no longer airs in the US, and only in Canada and elsewhere.  They put it on the crappiest timeslot in the U.S., at 8 am weekdays.  EEP!
