I'm selling games at Gen Con Indy this year.
« on: January 05, 2008, 12:57:30 pm »
I've invented three products that I hope to hawk off to board game manufacturers.  All three are light-hearted strategy games designed to showcase various mechanics that would integrate well with other games. I'm hoping to get a scholarship out of them, since my family's run a bit low on funds as of late.

Nice work setting up your own stall. I missed Gen Con when it was in the UK, and my games weren't ready anyway (I don't seem to ever have the time to work on them whilst I'm at Uni). Game Cons are a good way to go if you're looking to get licensed by a major firm - good luck, though, you'll need it - or if you're wondering whether to go indie and just want to test the waters.

How much did the booth cost you?

OKAY OKAY UPDATE

Well, the Gen Con booth is going to be pricey. That's not to say I won't be able to afford it but I would like to make sure I'll need a booth if I get one.

If my main goal is preferably doing a five-minute sell to board game manufacturers, and then getting a list of prospective artists/buyers/investors/part-makers for the games that don't sell; should I get a booth or just go up to other booths?
If anyone has been to Gen Con or otherwise can help me, please give me an answer.

I'm not familiar with this show but think about who is attending. If you want to meet the buyers of games, they would probably be the ones walking around looking for new ideas. The people manning the booth is usually selling something. I think they would have more respect for someone who actually gets the booth and sets it up professionally rather than walk around and try to sell without spending any money like everyone else.

I would say invest the money in a booth, make it as nice and professional as you can and Good Luck!
