Video Capture Devices
« on: January 03, 2008, 10:10:55 am »
Hey guys, I was wondering if you guys know of any of any video capture devices that I can use to record gameplay footage off my TV.

Thanks,

Joe

Yeah, sorry, I should have made my question a little more concise, but I was pushed for time.

I don't have a camcorder, and even if I did, I'm not sure you can wire up the camera so it takes the TV as a video input source.

I'm looking for a device that I can connect to the TV and take down the pure signal that the display is outputting, I don't just want to point a camera towards the TV, that looks awful.

Camcorders can do that.

Well, as I said, I don't have a camcorder, and I know there are products out there for this purpose.

I just answered something in The Off Topic Topic and it sparked my memory. Would a video capture card work for what you want? Instead of plugging the game into the television you can plug it into the card and record it from there. I'm fairly certain that I've seen it done before.

That sounds like it would work, but how would I see what I'm actually doing if the video is going into the card and not the TV?

You may be able to get it to display on a monitor that is plugged into the card. I'd assume that they have software packaged with the better cards.

That is my best assumption, sorry that I can't really give you concrete stuff.
