Yeah, that was my bad. I made a tiny little mistake, which was TOTALLY easy to fix, panicked when things went down, and was looking in the wrong place to fix it.

But then I calmed down and found the file, fixed it in like 2 seconds, and then everything is back to normal.

Sorry about that, that was MY fault.

On the plus-side the new server looks great, so that's good at least.

Is it safe to assume that the Gaming Steve email accounts are not working? Because one of them sent me back an error message.

I'm guessing that that this is related to the server-moving as well: http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?topic=11153.0

Me too, I've been trying to email Steve all afternoon, I just sent it by pm instead.

I am testing something now, so the site will be probably be "slow" for an hour or so.

I believe this time it's going to work once and for all, but I want to test it during daylight hours so bear with me, thanks.

Okay new update.

I've tested it a few times now, and I have MY IT guy doing it this time around, so it should go smoothly.

What was happening before is that they were using a method which only takes like an hour or so, but (obviously) it wasn't working so it doesn't really matter how long it takes if it doesn't work!

There is a much better method, but it's very slow and takes around 6-7 hours to complete. However ... it seems to work flawlessly. So I'm going to go with the "slow and it works" method instead.

There really is no "good" time to take down the site, so I am planning on doing it Tuesday night with the new server ready to go on Wednesday morning. And if it doesn't work for some reason it will be a quick transfer back to the original server. Plus I now have extensive backups going so I feel very confident that this will work out.

I guess in the long run this is a good thing as it really forced me to get my act together with the server maintenance and backup schedule. So here is hoping that on Wednesday this will all be a distant memory!

I can safely say 'we all wish you the best of luck, Steve.'

You can upgrade the server whenever it is convenient to do so. Whatever works is all that's important.

Yeah, we can tell it's been a real pain in the ass for you.

Hope it all works out so you can put your mind at ease.  :)

Yeah man take a load off, we can hold off without access to GS forums for a while if that what it takes  :). Anyway when do you plan to move the server anyway, like on a weekend maybe or it's unofficial until you have a time slot to open up? (sorry if I posted this before feels like I posted this somewhere before, de ja vu` huh?)

Mother: By the way I'm your mother
Kid: OH GOD NO

EDIT: That's where it becomes rape if you were wondering.

It says right in his post.

If all else fails, read the News Box at the top of the forums.  ;)

That's good timing, it gives me an hour after class to get my stuff done and then I can go to bed and wake up to the forum!

That'll be 8:00 PM PST for west coasters, no biggie I'll be busy that night. I think GMT will be in wee hours before dawn but no big deal. Aussies will have all Wednesday afternoon to figure out what to do with themselves. :)
