Thanks :). The Luminitars and mainly their biology, and later their culture and history, will be coming soon most probably tomorrow. Will not be my most alien race biologically but nevertheless will have many unique features.

The Luminitars:
(Part 1, sorry it was so long, when I saw how much the biology part got I decided to cut the general information into two. Warning, far too many details.)
(Would get their own thread eventually, probably after the next update)

The Luminitars are referred as the oldest of the younger races, and are de facto the rulers of Biocatia though they have no real interest in using their power to manage it in any way. These small creatures have changed current Biocatia so greatly one cannot imagine how life would look without them. From the wormhole gates, to the massive upliftings, and even most of the galactic technology around, it is all the work of Luminitarian scientists.

Home Planet:
AACC, an 85% water filled moist world with extreme tides due to a huge moon. Its sun went supernova ages ago and AACC was lost. The Luminitars attempted to use a wormhole gate to move the planet to a new star system yet due to “miscalculations” they have driven their whole star system into the gate and when the two stars met they created a massive supernova that killed life in many nearby systems and AACC was lost forever. Their new home world ACABA is an artificial water filled planet with a unique system of rising boards that sink and rise according to an artificially created tide mimicking mechanism in order to make it feel like home for the Luminitars. Most Luminitarian colonies though aren’t terraformed and their inhibitors live on dry land with watery baths pools and cannels for their other needs.

Biology:
Diet: Omnivores.
Age average: natural 55, modern 220.
Natural atmosphere: Oxygen rich.
Physical:
These small amphibian 1.2 meters tall creatures are a small threat to anyone physically. They can stretch their legs though and rise up to 1.7 meters though its harder and unnatural for them to walk that way. They have three single joint legs with soft paws that have a limited ability to grasp things, mainly for better grasping of rigid ground. They have two muscular hands with 4 thin long fingers with great flexibility. They have rather large skulls to contain their massive brains that grow longer behind their backs and two fin like thick muscle based organs at both sides of their necks that are used for better swimming. They can draw their neck back until the end of their heads and back meets almost enabling them to see things behind them. They have a single pair of eyes with no pupils and a wonderful sense of sight enabling them to almost 30 times the number of movements the human eye can. Between their eyes there is an organ called the Luminator. This organ produces rapid luminescence the Luminitars use as a form of communication language and speech. The Luminators have long mouths filled with tiny sharp teeth that have a very limited vocal ability and therefore have no natural language.

Locomotion:
Because their home planet is a watery one with extreme tides that on a daily bases turn seas into plains and flood whole territories amphibian creatures succeeded greatly there. The Luminators like many of the creatures in their home world are amphibians as well and therefore are able both to walk on dry land and to swim quite efficiency as well. Their swimming technique looks much like earth squids use by “wiping” the water with all their limbs at once.

Body Structure:
The Luminitars have a rather primitive skeletal system with very few bones and almost no caging bones like ribs and a very nonflexible skull. In order to cover for this they have evolved an inner system of pressure bladders filled with jelly like matter mainly covering their head and lower torso (where their vital organs residence). When an organ is damaged the bladders next to it often harden and increase in size something that can be seen even by looking at the wounded Luminitar. When a Luminitar dies these bladders often fill up almost to the point of bursting and the corpse gets very deformed and by a gentle wound can brake apart releasing the inner fluids.

Waste release and Reproduction:
As Amphibians the Luminitars need water to survive. Their skin for example hardness and cracks if it doesn’t get in full contact with water at least once a month. They can only release liquid waste when they are in a watery environment for when they release it (about once in a few days) their waste releasing organ that residences below their back leg opens and their inside environment gets in contact with the water. They can also release some of the waste from their skins only when in water and use this method mainly if they have consumed a substance hard to digest or a poison. They can also release solid waste instead of all this in dry land though they rarely do so as in the long run it damages their digestion organs. The Luminitars can also reproduce only in the water. They do so usually when they hold their partner in their neck fins (sometimes more than one partner, though this is done only in relatively close tribes and communities) and while the male releases the sperm into the water from its reproduction organ behind his fins the female opens her reproduction hatches that residence above each of her legs and can only be seen when opened (the males have those as well for evolutionary reasons and can use them in the same way though they have no reproductive use) and releases a set of chemicals that attract the sperm (using hydrogen bonds). Because this activity gives great pleasure the Luminitars they use it as a way to form tribal social bonds though it is considered something private between the partners and not something that should be spoken of. The Luminitars give birth to live larvae like babies, often 1-3 at each birth. They have a pregnancy of 5 months and get pregnant about once every three years in “nature”. The larvae grow into young capable children in the age of 4 and grow into adults in the age of 10.

Child Rising:
The child rising in the Luminitar society is considered the role of the whole tribe. The female parent often feels related to her young and takes care of them much like earth mothers do for most of their lives. The male parent on the other hand rarely does so, and often doesn’t even know which of the offspring are his. Still the tribe takes care of its members as equals. Members of the tribe, even in modern times, often choose to take the children even in the larvae stage with them to expose them to new experiences.

Intelligence:
Evolutionary the Luminators were omnivore scavengers that lived mainly in the shore caves of AACC, which were flooded on a daily basis. Because vocal communication in the water is a much trickier business they evolved the sight base communication method. Even their early ancestors were group based creatures that used their numbers to avoid being preyed, to assist each other in the gathering and hunting, and warn each other from coming waves of deadly floods that will smash those unprepared into the deadly rocky shores. All those unique conditions were perfect for the evolving of intelligence for only those who worked in groups and studied their always-changing environments survived. It is a known fact the Luminitarian brain works rather differently than those of most species. Their whole way of thinking is based on two main unique mechanisms, the need to understand all, and that guessed and random information is better than no information at least at first. All Luminitars has a basic need to understand anything they come across with making them naturally a race thriving for knowledge. As such they have made massive experiments, research and studies, exploration and mapping and data storing about almost anything they could think of. In a way all Luminitars are scientists eager to learn about the unknown. The other unique feature they have for random assumption, as a temporary solution was quite useful to satisfy their first need and stop them from going crazy from the lust for knowledge. On the other hand it also caused a very bizarre form of behavior. When a Luminitar comes across with something he or she doesn’t know or recognize their initial behavior is simply unpredictable. This affects various fields of life from racial diplomacy to science and even war. Still the Luminitars are considered one of the most intelligent species in Biocatia.

Inner organs:
In many ways the Luminitars are very familiar to our earthly vertebrates. They have a spine, a blood system and pumps, inner organs, a neural center, a digestion system a skeleton (though primitive), a reproduction system, and muscles which are based on similar techniques using different chemical compounds. On the other hand they have a different array and form of this very basic way of organization. First they have the mentioned pressure bladders that are used to support their skeleton and protect their inner organs and could be found all around their body in different sizes and locations. They also have their reproduction organs in very unique areas, above their legs (female) and behind their fins (males). Their waste releasing organs are above their back leg and are very much like the earth rectum but protected by a skin tissue that opens only when releasing the waste. They have three “hearts”: A main heart in their lower belly under all the other organs, and two smaller pumps in their muscular hands for better spread and supply of oxygen to this critical area. Above their main hear the inner digestion and waste release organs lay. They fill the whole lower belly and left side of the torso. In the right side of the torso a string based breathing organ evolved enabling them to breath both in the water and air. Their pharynx is rather narrow but filled with muscles enabling them to swallow wholly hard crusted organisms and digest them for up to hours in it before they would release the broken fully digestible shards into the rest of their systems. They have no tongues but instead have a very flexible end of mouth, which can stretch and grasp things easily. They taste and partly smell from that part.

Explanation of the surgery picture:
A – post-death tumors that are caused by the swallowing of the pressure bladders.
B – the hearts\blood pumps.
C – The stringy lungs.
D – digestion system.
E – the brain, neural center.
F – A head pressure bladder.
G – reproduction hatches.
H – male reproduction organs.

Coming next: Luminitar history culture and language \ communication, and lots of other information. Feel free and encouraged to request any information as well.

Part 2, sub part A:

History and Civilization:
In the dawn of their prehistory the Luminitars were tribal people living in tiny groups rather oblivious to other tribes with very primitive territorial relations. As they advanced technologically and started keeping records of their knowledge and history tribal relations became more important as many tribes that were previously hunter gatherers became aggressive warrior tribes that raided others, mainly in the amphibian forests of their home world where there was food in abundance. To gain certain security using their social skills the tribes of the amphibian forests invented a system of mutual relations in which a group of tribes lived in a united territory, though most of the times slightly apart, and that way have number advantages over their attackers. These small communities in time grew to sub nations and city-states and spread beyond the forests while the raiders had to migrate around the planet spreading the system they were fighting against. Still the connections between the many tribes and sub-nations were rather loose with no mutual interest and many different societies grew, from the seas of AACC to the barren lands, different langauges, cultures, ideologies and rituals. This might have stayed that way if not for one of their most basic instincts, the need for knowledge and its recordings. As different tribes gathered different information and written language was invented quite early due to its obvious need and the trading of information became the most important trade. Generally tribal and ultra-tribal relations became more positive and many sub nations co-existed in the same territories. This unique fabric carried on until their medieval age where the city states grew bigger into provincial kingdoms and territory became much more important and therefore relations between the sub nations became harsher and wars became common. Writings merchant, Luminitars who wandered the land trading writings from one civilization to another became the core of the ultra-society and kept the aggressive ever fighting kingdoms still united in a way and helped the Luminitars advance. Finally when they reached the industrial age certain kingdoms used their technological advantage to conquer their weaponry primitive neighbors in great masses and became super nations. This act was considered so brutal that this age will be known in the future as the “Age of Cruelness”. Still some growing nations didn’t impose their ways on their conquered nations and became federal states. These federal states that were mostly common in the great lakes of AACC united together to become the “Cultural Alliance”, which saw it as a goal to help those who were unfortunated to gain the needed technology to protect themselves and unite them together while keeping their cultural ways. These tensions between the alliance and the growing super nations grew into a total war in the end of the industrial age which ended up in the loss of the super nations and division of the societies into 7 great federal nations. All those federal nations were friendly to each other and somewhere in the late modern age due to a speech of an extremely known thinker called FF of the GAGD who talked about free information as the most basic of moralities, the new “share of knowledge” law was legalistic in 6 of the 7 nations and the Institution for Research and Exploration was formed. The last nation, which in time called itself “The Wall Guardian” which was originally the most advanced technologically, feared it would lose its advantage and therefore didn’t sign the pact. In time that meant it was left out without new information and technology and slowly lost its edge. Therefore the last war in their civilization age arose as this nation turned against one of its neighbors. The other 5 nations debated whether to assist the attacked nation as there was no official alliance between the 6 nations when it came to protection and meanwhile the attacked nation was almost burned to dust and tens of millions were slaughtered. Finally in a legendary committee after a heart tearing speech by the prime minister of the attacked nation the 6 nations agreed and signed a pact, which joins their military efforts in time of need. The “Wall Guardian” was destroyed and split between the federal nations. When the Luminitars reached space the final most known committee has taken place, in which all the nations joined together under a united government, and so the federal provincial system rose.

Personality, sociality, morality, mentality and psychology:
First as social omnivores the Luminitars enjoy the company of others on a daily basis. In fact loner Luminitars or outcasts often quite quickly go crazy. Luminitars are also rather empathic creatures easily placing themselves in others’ positions and helping other Luminitars almost always, mainly those in their tribe or near area. Luminitars have mixed loyalty to greater bodies such as governments and organizations and except their racial brothers, federal government, and institution of research and exploration they are only loyal to those close to them. The Luminitars all have a basic instinct of research and exploration that must be fulfilled. All Luminitars are also scientists in a way being members of the research institution and researching things either related to their profession or as a side “hobby”. In almost every Luminitarian colony one could find many free usable laboratories accessible to anyone who wishes to use them. In fact knowledge had a huge impact on their society. Giving false information and lying is considered one of the greatest moral sins a Luminitar can do, often judged for many years in prison depending on the effect of the lie. Also information is not a commodity in their current society, but is free for all who needs it. Because of this their democratic ways are quite efficient as all citizens are shared with the governments’ information and data (though most of them are rather not interested in this). All the Luminitarian information is stored in the Ultra Archives and Ultra Libraries in many planetary systems in order to keep the information available to all around Biocatia. The Luminitars also rarely prejudge anyone or any race and are generally very logical yet optimistic about anything they come across with. Their whole wrong and errors mind mechanism combined with this optimism makes them a rather naïve race when it comes to the unknown, something most find adorable yet rather dangerous. For example this quality resulted in the destruction of their home system. Though the Luminitars really enjoy informative conversations about newly discovered data they are easily bored with talking to other species both because they find the topics they discuss about none important and because conversations take almost 50 times more than their racial luminator based talks.

Communication \ Language:
As vocal communication wasn’t natural for the Luminitars their language, considered by some a natural language, is an extremely complex language based on the light they produce from their Luminator. As the Luminitar eye can see very rapid movements and distinguish between them their letters in the language are based on the length of the sudden luminosity. The shortest light, known by aliens as A, is a mil-second and the longest known as U is 2 hundredths of a second. Because of this their conversations are usually much shorter and much more information could be passed in a short period of time than that in vocal conversations. Their written language is based on the same principle as A is represented by a single line, B by a bit thicker line, and the letters get thicker and thicker as it goes on. Words are recognized by the fact the lines are connected by a horizontal line while in “spoken” language words are determined by a pause of exactly 3 hundredth of a second. The Luminitarian text is read from left to right and switches the side it is read from each line.

(Example for wirtten text)

Culture and Art:
The Luminitars are fascinated by the cultures of others. Though they have their distinct forms of culture and art the Luminitar tend to love and study the cultures of other races. It is considered fashionable to see the weirdest alien movies availed for example as it shows interest in the unrehearsed. In Luminitarian houses alien art in the most common form of decoration and a true sign of success. Still in would be unfair to say that the Luminitars do not produce their own arts, yet they don’t see it that way, and mainly see it as a way to study their inner feelings and surroundings.

Visual Art:
As the visual sense is the most intense Luminitarian sense visual arts are the most common authentic Luminitarian art form. Since early in their history the Luminitars used paintings color and mainly forms to express their emotions. From primitive cave paintings to stone carving up to massive stone paintings and in their modern age to screen light based ever changing art the Luminitar artist is considered a true scientist of the visual.

One should notice all Luminitarian visual art pieces are shaped as a way, a maze, or a road, sometimes even a crossroad. This element speaks to the Luminitarian mind as it tries to guide it into understanding the message or feelings of the creator. Many paintings try to lead the viewer through a journey while some try to take into the wrongs and errors in order to give the viewer a larger prospective over the idea mentioned. In many pieces of art using text is allowed and encouraged, like the known masterpiece “The Way for a Way” that uses only letters and form to pass the message of the creation. Another known art piece is the “Generosity to the Body” which is extremely known due to the fact a sketch of it could be found on most galactic MAF cans in Biocatia.

(The masterpiece "The Way for a Way")

(The masterpiece "Generosity to the Body")

Sensational Pleasures, Arts, and food:
While in nature the Luminitars are generalist omnivores that feed on anything from fruits, aquatic creatures, sand picked wormlings, raw parts of plants and even rotting meat and therefore evolved a powerful sense of taste and smell to detect dangers. The modern Luminitars have a very unvaried diet that consists of single meal of “MAF” a day the most common food source in the universe that consists of a tasteless array of meat fat and plants forged together.

Instead the Luminitars see taste as an experience. Even traditionally tiny amounts of extremely tasteful food were part of their cultures, mostly used either as a reward or by the wealthy to make them feel good in hard times or celebrations. In modern times these small sense-pleasers are chemically produces and have no nutrient value. There are 5 main sense-pleasers’ types:

Sweet-pleasers – These pleasers mimic the sense the front mouth taste buds produce when they come across with high calorie foods.

Salt-pleasers - These pleasers mimic the sense the front mouth taste buds produce when they come across with highly salty foods.

Repulsive-pleasers – These pleasers mimic the sense the front mouth taste buds produce when they come across with extremely rotten or poisonous foods. Only unique individuals that enjoy this bizarre taste use this flavor.

Electric-pleasers – These pleasers produce an unnatural taste using small electric charges given to the tasting organ. These charges give an arousing sensation similar to that which is produces using their sexual intercourse.

Knowledge-pleasers – These pleasers are extremely illegal as they break the moral code of giving false knowledge, or at least the sense of knowledge. Still they are used commonly by heavy addicts in the Luminitarian society and are considered one of the greatest problems the race faces. These pleasers use certain brain oriented chemicals that give the user the sense he or she have gained new knowledge, something of great pleasure for the Luminitars.

The pleasers are also used as an art form by special chemist artists called the “Sense-makers”. These artists use their knowledge of chemistry and biology to create pleasers that will give specific sensations as they please, in order to pass a message on the society or metaphorically show their feelings. These pleasers are often shown in great galleries where the viewers pass by the work and taste them.

Coming next and soon, sub part B: Techonlogy, The Tribal system, Government, The Federal Instition of Research and Exploration, and their own thread ofcourse.

Enjoy, comments requests questions and suggestions are encouraged.
