If WoW had EVE players, and was primarily Apple-supported, it would be a utopia.

Well i think what Yatzee is getting at is that even if EVE is hold up as some exception to the MMORPG mold is still pretty much the same. And i agree. EVE online may be different. A bit more hardcore as some say. But is still have  a lot of MMORPGs boring aspects.

Also EVE online is hard to get in to that build a lot on his community.

I do have to say that the trading system (I was in the beta. But i do not think they have changed it since then) was great. Pretty much just a open market smiler to a stock market. I even manage to make a buck just trading on the same station.

The market in EVE was designed by an economist and is almost entirely player-driven.

But i good economy does not make a game alone. UO was in the early had a very player driven economy to so is not that unique. I have seen severs that provide smiler stock market mechanics in UO that exist in EVE. Sadly the sever i am on have disconnected there market solution :(

I am supriced that not more MMORPGs use a smiler system. It is not that hard to add and it will i think grow better communities. I have said it before. But if i made a game world then i would focus on the Economy and Ecology first.

Concerning the economy, it is actually amazing what one can find out. During a titan build, for example, the cost of Scordite, a commonplace ore, nearly doubles, as it's metals are critical to the components needed. If more games had this kind of economy, not only would it be more immersive, but after a given time, it would be near indestructible - nearly nothing could serious harm the market.

and most importantly

you can let your character merge completely with the economy...and not go on grindy quests at all

some people love that

Yeah, I see Eve as being a different kind of MMO, ono that's a lot like a second job for someone who just likes to make it big. The corporations and economy make it like a second world, but the lack of much actual fun in the gameplay makes it boring, unless you really like markets and stuff like that.

i'd like a simpler trading system, telling me where i'd get the best scoop instead of memorizing every single planet in my empire and beyond.
