Gives out an important lesson, though.

Why not try it anyway? Is a demo available? Most of the time these pro reviewers are nothing more than advertisers who rate the game dependant on whatever incentives they get. Best bet would be to try it yourselves if you were expecting a good game, then agree or refuse the lashings at your leisure.

How in the hell does something like this happen to a series that was fairly decent?

I really liked the first one. I tried playing the second one's demo, but it didn't really catch me. The third one though seems like crap.

I doubt that.. I'm sure it's true for certain reviewers and certain magazines, but as far as I can tell IGN has always had a good reputation when it comes to reviewing. (Although I very much disagree with their assessment of the Battlestar Galactica miniseries, which was written by a disgruntled fan of the original series who no longer works at IGN)..

But I digress.. Empire Earth never really appealed to me because I felt the Civilization series represented the scale a lot better, but it's definitely a shame to see such a name fall. The same has unfortunately happened to Simcity recently, so I can feel the pain of all those who used to love the game. I have some friends who were huge Empire Earth fans, so I'd better warn them about the new release before they buy it..  :P

A shame, shame shame.

I used to love the original map editor in Empire Earth. It was simple/flexible for making entertaining scenarios in a matter of minutes. Empire Earth II was painfully eh. It's a shame that this game nailed the coffin shut.

This seems to happen to a lot of game series. (Or I just like being dramatic) But alot of better games seem to peter out to a pile.

Empire Earth one and two were one of my most favorite games. If I still had track of them I'd feel like playing it now. BUILD THAT WONDER FASTER YOU CHEAP BASTARDS! THE TANKS ARE COMING!

I loved the fist two because of their complexity and range of epochs. Now its been overly simple. This is whats happing to games now. All it is a way to make few more dollars companies are making games so easy to get new gamers.

I'm truly hoping it doesn't happen to the Civ series. It can't happen, not at all...

I take this as more proof that 3 is a cursed number.

Ya 3s bad for rts games. Age III graphics were pretty bad and game play felt small being that maps were small and u were so close to the ground.

You mean AoE 3?

It's boring. MTW2 is better.

What about Warcraft 3? that was arguably the most successful of the series.

I must agree with SBD there. I'm still playing Warcraft III and I got it when it was released way back in 2002.

Well, theres already an idiot's version for consolses in the works, but hopefully this doesn't reflect Civ 5, which is also under development.

Warcraft 3 was great! I found the Community is what really made it a better game. With all the custom games out and still being pumped out (Although alot slower now) it is still a fun game too go and play now and then.

I actually still make them from time to time, why just today I was fiddling with triggers and got cities to send immigrants to other cities based on happiness.
