Trebuchet Fun
« on: November 16, 2007, 05:55:00 pm »
For anyone that is interested, our physics class has been making trebuchets for the last month. These clips are from the news stations that showed up to watch all the action. My fantastic trebuchet is featured in the KTLA video where the news anchor tries his hand at firing it, around 1:15.

The video starts after the commercials.

Hah! Those things are awesome, no matter how many times I see trebuchets being fired, I can't get enough. Thanks for sharing, Pando. ;D

We got to work a trebuchet in college physics. The absolute best place to stand while watching a trebuchet being fired? The place that the trebuchet is firing to. Watching a gallon jug full water come barreling at you at 60 mph is quite awesome.

I'm gonna feel sorry for your children should you ever have any (unless you already do, in which case I'm already feeling sorry for them).

Ahhahahaha, midget trebuchet! So your one is the midget one? Good job!

A lot of people did make little ones, but ours was the only one you could see in the video. My friend and I left to go somewhere and when we came back, that news guy was getting filmed messing with our trebuchet.

Were you happy, or pissed off as he may break it? I laughed when he said he nearly hit someone :D

bah! they call that engineering?
Journalists never seem to know anything about what they are talking about, regardless what it is (which leads to the conclusion that journalists don't know anything).
That's one reason why I hate them so much.

Nice trebuchets though, I just love those things.

omg, I made one of these in school last year, it was SO bad!  :D  I built pretty much the entire thing the night before...the thing looked like it would fall apart if you touched it...but it shot a softball 6 feet  8)

Awesome, but I'm gonna have to minus points for not wanting to spend time on a trebuchet! The '8)' makes up for those lost points though.

When you took the measurment did you take it from the base, of from the furthest point it actually swung? For all we know it could have phailed and simply dumped the ball infront of the trebuchet!

That's what she said!... *assumes the fetal position in the corner of the room and cries*

Ah well, at least you flung it 5 feet tops, it's better than nothing I guess.
