PLEASE NOTE:  I am discussing the context of HOW two people had a specific conversation.  PLEASE listen to the clip BEFORE you comment, I'm not interested in a face value judgment, other threads are taking care of that, sorry for the confusion:)

Ok so if you listen to the recording of the radio interview, I have transcribed the exchange everyone is "quoting":

ok so the guy says "Alright, so.. Maybe 6 months?"

will: "Yeah, um..  Roughly."

Not quite as definitive as the gamer sites have made it sound.

He was asked a vague question and he gave a vague answer, I wouldn't put too much stock into it.  Have a listen for yourself,

its 13:25 into the recording.

http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?topic=10664.0  to get the download.

Am I understating the context of the exchange?  What do you think?

If it was to far off I'm sure something would of been said correcting the host.

i want comments from people that have heard the voices, because there are other thread about that information in itself.

I am more talking about the context of how things were said, and you have to hear the recording to judge that.

I'd say 8 months is the rough time, a game like Spore would be extremly buggy.

I for one totally agree, happydan. The interviewer suggested the time, the interviewee reacted with a very non-committal "yeah roughly". It was very much like the New York interview this spring: "So people can pick up Spore for the holidays?" WW:"Well, er, yeah".

Personally I'd stick with "the middle of next year".

IŽd give it a roughly 12 months... that way roughly can turn into the better instead of worse  :D

Doesn't roughly mean it can be a bit sooner than 6 months or a bit over 6 months?

its not about the definition of roughly, its the way the question was asked and how it was responded to

"so, maybe we'll get together next month"

"Yeah, maybe"

Can be boiled down to:

Is it possible

Yes, its possible

Again, listen to the audio, its not about the words themselves, but the way they were delivered.

Having heard the actual words said, I read the news sites like gamespot, joystiq and so on "quoting" the interview and its obvious they just made the quotes up.  I don't expect gaming journalism to be all that professional, but fabricating quotes is pretty bad.

I think it's getting a lot of peoples hopes up when I really don't think any intent on specifying a release date was actually transmitted in the message, personally.

That's why I made this thread, sao I could get other people's perspectives that listen to the clip.

Yeah, I find that WAY off. If it is coming out in exactly six months I probably would have answered in the exact same way. I think you are over-analyzing the question also. Will Wright answered very quickly. In all likeliness he didn't even consider the "maybe" in the question. I obviously can't talk for Will but I would say it in the same manner with roughly meaning give or take a month. And I'm not saying this because I want it to be true, I've been hear so long 6 months to another year doesn't make a difference to me.

I mean even if I know something 100% right I sometimes still say something like "yeah, that's about right". Honestly I wouldn't worry people about it. I listened to it a few times, I just think you are looking too much into the wording. I mean if you analyzed one of your own conversations I'm sure you could pick out things you could have been clearer on.  Considering the format that it was radio, nothing has really changed for me.

Well of course we are. But its what ive been saying it is at least one to two months BEFORE or AFTER the 6 month period which ends near April/March which, given the current status of the game is the most likely release date. It is also most likely because it is right before summer in most cases. Therefore there is likely to be more sales and people will be able to play it more given summer vacation.

It's done when it's done :)

Be glad Spore has that luxury and isn't "Done when it has to go gold to hit christmas store shelves, ready or not."  Yeah, we'd all rather be playing it, but I'd rather wait the 6 months rather than get ripped off.  They obviously are going to do the extended number of X-packs model here- because if you release a piece of crap, good luck getting anyone to buy an expansion to it.  Take the time now, milk the cow for years, it's a good model, and it will net us a good game :)

Perhaps it was all a grand scheme of Will Wright's to spark more debate over this game :P I bet there is no Spore- he just wants to see how many people he can get to follow it lol

I don't think so. I think he thinks more like this about it:

and then just goes on refining Spore.

The game is pretty much finished, now they're play testing. 6 months is plenty of time.
