Oh this "illusion"? I've always seen it going one way. No real illusion here.

I can't see it either, Snake. I've done everything everyones suggested, still can't make it move a different way.  :-\

Superior? You are simply loony, and illogical if you think it's not going the direction it is going.

For once, Snake is right.  It's going clockwise, not counterclockwise.  If this is not obvious, look in a mirror and make sure your pupils are the same size.

...Sorry.  :-[ I'm going to sulk in my corner as I ponder the existential ramifications of my being loony.

What MasterChiToes said is absolutely right. In fact, when the woman points to the right, it is an exact mirror (or should be) of her pointing left. If you're having trouble I recommend closing your eyes and visualizing it going the other way, then looking again.

It being an exact mirror does not matter. It it turning clockwise, stop this ridiculous thoughts of it being an illusion, and admit you're just loony.  :P

Here is what makes your brain think which way it is rotating. Your perception of when the bottom foot is in front of the girl is all that really matters. If you can force yourself to think the bottom foot is in front when, by your current perception, it is in the back, you can make the girl change directions easily.

It's obviously in the front. Anyone who's not retarded knows that feet look like that when they're in the front. The shadows also demonstrate that she is rotating counterclockwise. All the crap about it rotating anti-clockwise is logically, physically, and visually impossible without screwing with your own mind, which I do not recommend.

NOW I GET IT!

the illusion isn't that it looks like its going the other way: it does switch of once in a while. the illusion is it does it at the moment in the circulation when you cant tell which direction its going, when the legs touch and the figure is more disambiguous. it just flips at the time that you cant notice it changing direction.

but this is discounted by the fact that it will reliably change in if I use the indirect vision. so how does it work?
please tell me if you know.

You sort of have to relize it's a 2D object not 3D the depth of the extrmities is an illusion and you can see it as if it appears that the leg moves toward or away from you.

Blink when her extended leg is closest to the side.  If you time it right she'll change direction.
Keep your eyes on the legs to keep the number of "sight cues" to a minium.

An interesting challange don't let her make and complete turn try to make her leg appear to change direcetion at each extreme right or extreme left sort of like tennis to a degree.
