There's a thread almost exactly like this in the everything else forum, I believe. http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?topic=590.0
And it's stickied too!

This isn't the only forum on the site, people!

I'm glad that at least I'm not the oldest. I'm already finding myself older then I really am.

Blasphemy! Stone him! lol

I'm 19, and all I expect from Spore is what has been said and shown it's gonna be like, I don't mind cartoony over realistic style as far as it is not a childish cartoony (just because one watches cartoons like the simpsons and south park doesn't mean one enjoys watching stuff for kids :P).

Older?

The poll should really be:

Under 18
Over 18
Over 21
Over 30

Right now the results are very spread out making it hard to read.

Only 14-year old? Wicked!

I don't expect a lot from Spore, that way I won't get dissappointed if the game is horrible. And it will make me feel good if it's superb.

By the way, the average gamer is in his 30's...which is sad...unfortunately . Also if you look at the information. THERES ALOT OF LITTLE KIDS ON THIS FORUM
How many times do i have to tell you guys to watch what you say. Ive been involved in several "uneasy" threads, and alot of you guys seem to enjoy making the situation worse! WE HAVE 10 YEAR OLDS IN THIS FORUM! They have so much they havnt experienced Yet! And many of the things that i ment by that vague statement you guys seem to enforce so please! please! watch what you say.

I also never figures out how to make a voting thread...if somebody could help me out...

According to this information, there are very few.
I dont quite get what you mean by "uneasy" threads, but the worst i've really seen is profanity and bickering (though, I do just focus on threads that interest me). Shielding the young from this, just because they havent experienced it yet, wont really help. Not only will they pick it up on their own, and normally amongst their own age groups, but they're on the internet, and heh, the internet isnt exactly a beast you can censor very well from the outside in. If there is a concern about language, there are maturity settings that can be turned on, and wordfilters. Though I get the impression there is something im missing, that goes beyond the auto-censored profanity though. So uh, you might have to elaborate on this one.

I just had to imagine what it'd be like if MrCrowley was an admin.

...I still have goose-pimples

(no personal offense intended, it's just how the cooky crumbles)

And on this poll here: I always thought the other thread in 'Everything Else' has a too coarse resolution. This one's much better (though it will be outdated in a year)

Why would I want to post my age here. I have a profile for something. Jeez, people are getting lazier by the day.

I looked over the qualifications and there was nothing about that.

You obviously didn't read the "I agree to these terms and conditions and am 13 years old or above" when you clicked, which is a staple of all forums. I remember it when I signed up, and that was three years ago.

Strictly speaking, anyone under the age of 13 without a COPPA form should be banned.

And I agree. It's odd how so many people can be so young but have such a casually intelligent view of things while most the people in my senior class are immature and short on manners.

The point of my post was, if the mere premise of a furry freaks you out beyond the tourettes-like auto-regurgitation 'hate furries because thats funny/cool' meme, then I suggest you never, EVER leave this site.

Dude, 10 years, I've seen 4chan and the worst it can dish out and I've seen DeviantArt and the worst it can dish out, furries are creepy. And to be a furry at 40 and post on the internet as if you were 10, that's even more creepy.

You realize that's an opinion not a fact? And I would hardly call Woulfe's manner of posting that of a 10 year old. Assuming you are telling the truth about being online for 10 years, you know 10 year olds don't post like that.  In fact if I didn't know better I'd say you're post reflect that of a 10 year old. Leave Woulfe be, he's not hurting anyone, he's not bothering anyone (except apparently you).  If you think he's cree[y, fine, you can think that. You can't change peoples opinion. Me, pesonally, I like his sense of humour.

Actually, in my personal experience, i've found older internet users are generally quite 'internet newbie'ish in the way they write and post online. Yeah, maybe a lot of those are really light (or new) internet users, but it might be a generational gap thing (I might have only grown up with the ZX Spectrum, Master System and Megadrive(genesis) and Amiga, but thats still familiarity). Though, that nitpicking aside, I have to agree with you on this one Interitus. Even as a meme trying to be funny, its gotten old, as in, as old as constantly bringing up the emo stuff, because thats just hilarious, right?

Dont get me wrong Rayofash, im not knocking your opinion now I know its genuine, but hey, im on a general tangent now, so its not really aimed at you now. Thing is, even Chuck Norris jokes were occasionally chucklesome or remotely creative, but verbally quirking your eyebrow at a furry is as easy as hitting the broad side of a barn with like... a nuke... so why are there so few actually funny, impersonal remarks about them, and the rest just left as pointless backhanded crap that they're expected to just ignore even if said directly to their faces? I'd wager that even if Rayofash's remark was way out of line, and Woulfe took it the wrong way, a fair supply of people'd line up to support Ray and lob a few extra aggravating remarks over. If he tried to clarify anything, it im guessing people would set up the armchair psychology brigade and start probing his life to compare him to his group (yeah, including sexual preference and stuff, given the subject matter). Anything denied to talk about would be assumed to be confirmation of whatever response would have been most humiliating.
(Hypothetically, of course. Unless I totally misused the term "hypothetically" there.)
Same goes for emos if one gets unearthed. Hell, it even goes to religion and nationality based stuff, but at least in those subjects you generally have backup of your own.

If you make a snide, off-colour, or probingly personal remark, people dont normally respond with a smile, but instead have a good attempt at verbally slapping you upside the head. If you make a crappy remark, you expect to get backlash. Its not a trait of a specific group, thats the way people work. An attempt to explain themselves isnt "defensive bull to cover what you know is wrong" that can be 'logically' auto-discarded, the target disregarding the petty stuff isnt "just because they're ashamed now they've been found out" or "you wont reply because you cant explain it", and the reason they never brought it up before, is because they're probably sick of the crap they get for it. Okay, so, if they're getting in your face with it, y'know, crossing a line? Fine, have at it. But if they're keeping to themselves? Dont be a douchebag. And me? I get pretty sick of watching people spew the same feeble stuff over and over again at people just minding their own, and then square their shoulders afterwards as if they're the dogs bollocks for hitting the broad side of a barn with a nuclear payload.

(Does this even go as far as to cover the actually diagnosed asperger sufferers too? Thats one group that comes to mind that I have no experience with.)

I've had this thing bubbling away under the surface for some time now, and I cant help but feel I did a hamfisted droning job of it again. Uhm, please disregard a recent rant of mine about the core of popular religion, aheh. Hey, at least I tried to make it clear that particular one wasnt directed at any present members and more of a critique of major religions in general. xP

Hopefully Rayofash was making a joke and not serious. Woulfe is funny and cool and whats wrong with a forum furry? He's our furry not some random spore furry and defiantly NOT creepy. I'm pretty sure he's been on the internet longer then some of you. We need more mature people here, don't scare him away.

Im pretty sure Rayofash was serious now, but not really out of line. I mean, admittedly, every group has its spotlight pulling weirdos, and I can see where the opinion comes from if all you pay attention to are the spotlight grabbers, and totally skip over normal internet avatarism, but... yeah. The people of the forum are kinda used to my tangents and big-brotherly defensive rants now anyway, pinches of salt and hypothetical situations all around. :P

I know people who have been on the internet since the only thing the internet was was Usenet. One thing all those people have in common is proper forum etiquette, proper spelling, and proper grammar. His posts do not reflect that of someone who has had over 10 years of forum experience.

All I'm saying is, if he is over 40, why doesn't he act it? I just find it very odd, because I do know people on the internet who I know for a fact are at least over 30 and have been using the internet since the only thing the internet was was Usenet, and ALL of their posts read like a science paper or a well written short-story.

Dude, 10 years, I've seen 4chan and the worst it can dish out and I've seen DeviantArt and the worst it can dish out, furries are creepy. And to be a furry at 40 and post on the internet as if you were 10, that's even more creepy.

Leave Woulfe be, he's not hurting anyone, he's not bothering anyone (except apparently you).  If you think he's cree[y, fine, you can think that. You can't change peoples opinion. Me, pesonally, I like his sense of humour.

You must not have seen too many 10 year olds post. I was over exagerating when I said 10. It's more like 14 or 15.

Proper etiquette like criticising posts which really have nothing wrong with them worth pulling them over on, given they are readable, and i've never seen him get out of line about anything even once. Or remarking on behavioural age because of... well... what exactly did cause you to make the remark based on? The only issue i've seen you take with him in my little wanderings of the forum, were because he didnt use the auto-signature thing, when he tends to sign differently in his different posts? Posts dont need to be like science papers or well written short-stories, as long as they are readable without having to go to pains to decipher their basic messages, and that they arent throwing flamebait around. Maturity and post quality dont always go hand in hand, because some people do just make discardable, rough-edged posts out of a lack of real concern or need.

And still, your posts towards this end arent exactly within perfected forum etiquette, are they? If you're going to criticise shouldnt you offer some kind of sagely advice, or even a pointer on what drew you to criticism in the first place?

You can criticise posts and have proper etiquette. When I said etiquette I was refering to using the signature field, staying within the boundries of avatar and signature size, etc...

I never said his posts needed to be like that, I'm saying if he is as old as he says he is and has the amount of internet experience as people think he does, his mosts would be more like that.

I did give my advice, use the forum signature feature because it's there for a reason.

My remark was just a passing comment that I think being 40 and a furry is really weird, because most people outgrow furryism in their mid to late 20s. I know people who think they have an animal soul living in them, and can become that animal somehow. It's really disturbing.

I didn't mean it to turn into this. I should have just kept my mouth shut.

As for the signing of the posts, I just find it annoying. There are actually a whole lot of people on the internet who don't like post signing, and most forums I post at have a rule against it.

Actually thats therianism or "otherkin"(ism?). Then again, i'll be damned if I know what the term "furry" actually means any more, definition changes wherever you ask. I'll neglect comparisons to other beliefs here though, but I will note that some people never grow out of irrational beliefs. In my experience of furries, the simple trick is to never take it more seriously than they do. Then again, before I got busy, i'd occasionally hover around SecondLife, so I think i've seen the worst and best of em outside of first-hand contact. Funny how in waving my anti-drama rant around I managed to kick up more fuss than you did though.

I know  50-year old guys who jerk off at pokeporn that some 12/11 year-old kid made. Woah! You serious? 'Cause I didn't think that people that old used internet forums. Not that there's anything wrong with it. I guess I'm just surprised as to how old the population is turning out to be!

I'm finding this amusing, what do people over 40 act like? All of them are suppose to type post like a science paper? Why?

They aren't going to talk like that unless they really are scientist. Your body may chronologically age but your mind stays young. They like to have fun like anyone else. If you liked animals when your 20 your probably going to like them when your 40. Same with Star Wars, Star Trek etc.... also, being over 40 doesn't make you computer illiterate.

Steve is close to 40, do you think he is creepy too? He uses the internet, makes video games and has a huge video collection. He doesn't sound like a scientist. Let's don't put labels on people due to age. We have older members who act young and younger members who act old.  It's a mixed bag.

Snif.... I am too old  (59)  :'( :'(

I'm actually going to agree with Woulfe about this poll. Why does every age from 11 to 29 have a slot and the rest are "over 30".  It really should have been done in ranges. 12 and under, 13-16, 17-20, 21-25, 26-30, 31-40, 40-50, 50-60, 61-70, over 70. That would give you a truer demographic range.

lets say you were on the upcoming leipzig thing, and the developers for spore shows something awesome, and next to you you see an old man at the age of 70 with a cane and all, screaming: Yeah! Awesome new features!!

You guys need to get in the real world more, 70 yr olds don't use canes. They jog and play poker and work out at the gym. Hugh Hefner is 80 and has three girlfriends. He doesn't even use a cane. Robin Williams is 56 and he had a great time playing Spore.

But yeah, it would be cool to see someone like Will's father jump up and yell "Yeah, thats what I'm talking about". Do you think Will's father plays Spore? I bet he has his own copy.  ;)

WOW, I missed a lot while playing some games for a few days.
I sometimes forget this is the INTERNET and eveyone has to type PERFECTLY.
Oh, and use PERFECT english and PERFECT grammer.
Heven forbid that someone has ADD can't type as good as everyone else.
Little Miss. I've been on the Internet for 10 years Perfect.
Well who cares how long you've been on the Internet.
For someone who's PERFECT you have really bad manners, you know.
Oh, i'm going to make fun of him, because he's not PERFECT like I am.
You know what, i'm GLAD i'm not perfect, because if being PERFECT means to be as stuck up as you, i'd reather be as imperfect as I can.

Oh and by the way, this isn't sarcastic.

Oh and also one can't JOKE around online and have FUN, we all have to dot our I's and cross our T's.

Lord, I had no Idea that there were rules like this for the Internet, I guess I better behave like a fuddy duddy 43 year old and tell folks what the real world is like, you won't last 1 second in it with that attitude little Miss PERFECT, is that what you want to hear for a born again Cynic ?

Oh, but I forgot, Little Miss PERFECT owns the whole Internet we HAVE to follow her rules.

We can't be indiviguals, can't have our own personalities, we all have to fit with what she expects everyone to be like, if they'er over 40 they have to be SERIOUS, all the freaking time.

You want SERIOUS, okay, you'll be flipping burgers at McD's Little miss PERFECT.

I'm not perfect and never claimed to be.

Heven forbid that someone has ADD can't type as good as everyone else.

I have ADD too, and it was 3 years before I learned to type properly.

Lord, I had no Idea that there were rules like this for the Internet, I guess I better behave like a fuddy duddy 43 year old and tell folks what the real world is like, you won't last 1 second in it with that attitude little Miss PERFECT, is that what you want to hear for a born again Cynic ?

There are, if you have been on the internet as long as I have you would know this as well as I do. Sure there are some places that are pretty lax, but even those places may have small cliques of people who prefer a more strict setting. I know plenty of people your age on the internet who are very cool people. Sometimes they're serious (usually about politics) and the rest of the time all they do is joke around.

You want SERIOUS, okay, you'll be flipping burgers at McD's Little miss PERFECT.
I don't flip burgers, I repair computers and setup networks. I don't expect serious, I don't expect anything (this is the internet). I just made a few comments, and people wanted justification, which I provided them with.

Rayofash, since when did this thread turn into a game were you compete about who has seen the most bizzare brutal porn? Just stop while you still can.

It isn't, I was informing him of the true nature of 4chan and that those sites were just examples.

Oh god, that mental image made me laugh.

Those are examples. And in case you didn't know, 4Chan has the worst of the worst. Your silly little neo-nazi thing is nothing compared to the anti-black propaganda that has come out of 4chan.
Heh, the anti-black propaganda is just more of an ongoing trolling attempt. Its pretty hard to tell what people on 4chan are actually taking seriously, when its population is made up of a pure mix between troll-emulators and actual trolls. Its all about the shock value and having a laugh, not making an actual statement. Though this is probably just nitpicking over stuff you already know.

Anyway, I can understand where people come from sometimes on the furry thing, because those fur-suits (mascot suit things) get a bit of a "clown fear" response out of me sometime, auto-uneasiness. Thing is, i've hung around furries in SecondLife, and whilst there are people like that, who actually think they can physically transform into their animal, or have uh... further 'out there' personal tastes and are kinda vocal about them online, there are an aweful lot who really arent, and even resent other furries for turning it into a subculture or way of life, rather than just a 'thing we do online'. Thing is, out of my seven-or-so avatars in SecondLife, I have a bipedal eurasian badger (the ones from the "Badger" flash animation), and wearing it where I can be seen, according to most, makes me a fully-fledged furry, means I automatically think im a badger in real life/have a badger-soul, and that im into beastiality. Something wrong with that picture? Yeah. The only bit that I think really holds water is the sheer amount of inter-community drama they boil up. So I still stand by my "Never take it more seriously than they do", because if you ever meet one who actually takes it too seriously, you wont have to do any guesswork to do about it. Yeah, another tangent without a target. Though to be fair, I think i'd dodge even a personal pre-paid invite to one of those conference things...

I also like Cartoons.  ;D

And no I don't mean Anime, please don't make me ill, I mean REAL cartoons.

I mean fall off a million foot cliff, slam into the ground with a huge boom, hold up a sign that says "Ouch" on it cartoons, the kind that were made before even I was born cartoons.

I studied the masters, Jones, Avery, Frelling, Mckimson, Clampett, Blanc, Stalling, Foray, et al.

None of this modern stuff for this guy, give me frying pans to a cats face from a mouse over anything from Japan or even the US as of late.

I'm talking LOONEY TUNES and MERRIE MELODIES here, the funnyest cartoons ever made.

"Rabbit Season, Duck Season, Rabbit Season, Duck Season, Fire, BOOM ! *

I love the classics.

I agree, except I think it should be 8 & Under, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-17, 18-20, and otherwise the same. I say this because I'm pretty sure most people fall into those categories, so there will obviously be a bigger number, I see you compensated for that but I though that the categories should be even smaller.

I also like Cartoons.  ;D

Well, as long as we're talking about cartoons, I like all cartoons, an example of the variety I watch (trying to spread out the years):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gTJqI39VQc

(What was the one with the dog who finds a kitten and takes care of it while trying to hide it from his owner? I forgot the name of it, it was my favorite. I was looking for it to post it.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4jd0UWGPgY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loUNoy0Qub0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpyK_1n0aYQ (haha, I love this, the animation is so good)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdcxYE7UcZg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYpoj7-CpsE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XfJwh2cC6o

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1VBwBdVQtw

I can't think of too many cartoons I havent seen (the fact that I haven't seen them is probably why I can't think of them hahaha).

I love cartoons.

I still say those who didnt grow up with the ultra high-tech graphical supremecy of Knightmare were deprived as children. Though most of the jokes went straight over my head, I also loved Dangermouse. Ooh! Ooh! Bananaman!

I dont watch much TV any more, but I generally find watching cartoons (older cartoon reruns preferred), is normally more entertaining than half of the garbage they have on other channels. I would have probably watched something like Heroes or Lost, but I missed the starting episodes. As far as anime goes, heh, well, its hit or miss with me, a lot of it is too formulaic and predictable, or unoriginal to really get my attention. Lain could have been really good, the idea danced on the fine line of brilliance and total incoherency, and it kinda jumped off the bad end. Loved Witch Hunter Robin and Wolfs Rain, liked Infinite Ryvius despite melodramatic and barely understandable character responses (mostly towards the main character). I still remember my first anime, the original Guyver, on VHS. Watched the full lot in a single day. Man... thats going back.

Yeah, most of today's cartoons can't hold a candle to the cartoons of the 80's and early 90's. In fact I'm seeing rehashed transformers and he-man.. it makes me cry.

Transformers the recent film was pretty good IMOHO, Seeing that it's a film based on toys and a cartoon from the 80's ;)

They'er planing another live-action He-Man film, hope they get it RIGHT this time.

Cartoons of the 90's, ah yes.

Tinny Toons, Animaniacs, Pinky & The Brain, Freakaziod, all good stuff.
Look at what happened to Kids WB, sigh, I need to get Animaniacs, Pinky & The Brain DVDs soon.

Dangermouse was a lot of fun. "Oh Crumbs"  Lots of Brit humor in it.

Where have all the good cartoons gone ? Certainly CN could show all these, yes ?

I only like Anime when it's well done, I didn't mean to put it all down, but just like US toons they had a lot of "limited" animation style toons that somehow flooded the airwaves here, any "limited" animation sucks no matter where it came from, be it US or Japan.

Now all the Anime films, blow folks minds, it's so well done it's creepy, Take AKIRA, it's a trip.

They better not cast Governator Ahnult as He-Man. Or at least, if they do, Samuel Jackson should be Skeletor...

Same attitude for life and Internet for that matter.

Also, Woulfe. Animaniacs is still on. But in my opinion it should have stayed in the 90's, along with MC Hammer.

And The Pinky and the Brain and the Animaniacs DVDs are awesome. I also got the Duck Tales DVDs, but for some reason they didn't include the first few episodes.

I liked Pinky & The Brain, never much cared for the Animaniacs.

All childrens programming has gone to hell recently...

Have you seen disney? Lots of Hannah Montanna and puns that they have only the audience laughing at and...

Oh it's just so horrible.

It's kinda weird if you haven't watched it from the beginning (which is not that hard, it's like 37x20 minutes if I recall it correctly)

That's odd.

Perhaps the reason they didn't put the first few episodes on the DVD was because, wasn't the first few like a film, I seem to recall it was one long adventure or something, basicly showing the concept of the show early on.

I remember the show basicly was like taking Carl Barks comics and making them animated, more or less.

My memory is a tad rusty =P

Yeah, movies I hear. Sadly, they're going to be without Tony Jay. The voice actor who did Megabyte died last year... Coolest. Voice. In the show. He was a villain with dignity, tact, and pure malice to spare.
