As someone who was once an Orson Scott Card fanboy (I've got a gigantic collection of signed books that I've read multiple times)- Go with A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones. All the way. Ender's Game...eh, I find it to be more child/young person-oriented. Speaker for the Dead was pretty decent, but I'd say hold it off for a while.

Just went to Barne's & Noble's and got the Necronomicon* and the first 6 volumes of Death Note. Time to get cracking.

*No, not that Necronomicon you dolt, the collection of Lovecraft works.

if the necronomicon was really real, i wonder how much it would cost,

i'd put it in the multi-millions at least

or it'd be in some museum now, never to be opened again

I just read Idlewild and it's sequal Edenborne (spelling may be off since I don't have the books in front of me right now and don't want to find them), by Nick Sagan, (the son of Carl Sagan)
Idlewild was really really good, edenborn was ok,  I don't have the 3rd in the series but will read it when I find it. (they don't have it at my local bookstore)
also I just started reading this C++ book, i already know up to like chapter 4-5 but I'm starting from the beginning to reinforce what I already know,  I'm on page 30 out of 1550, so that should take a while.  But it's a very well written book, it's meant for a college class.

I am reading through a small student's psychology handbook, and afterwards will make my way through a textbook of the same subject.

Because I am boring, sure, but also because pschology is hells of interesting.

I just know that at some point I will probably watch the movie.  It isn't up to me.

The story is decent and Lisbeth is great character once you get used to her, but there's always... that.

It's not even that it's just once scene either. It's a theme throughout the whole series.

Well:

The basis of the book was that the author saw a woman violently raped when he was young, and his guilt as result from that is expressed a lot in this; as well as trying to show Sweden as not being the liberal paradise of love that everyone thinks it is. So rape, torture and violence against women come up a lot past the halfway point. Not even hinted at beforehand either, besides domestic violence statistic posted up between acts. For the first half it was fairly tame in comparison to the second until a really dramatic change in tone when Lisbeth gets violently raped by her legal guardian, who turns out to be a sadist. Thus the "WHAT THE **** WHAT THE **** WHAT THE ****".

Also Blomkvist is the most blatant self-insert character of all time.

However, it was originally written in Swedish so it has some funny names in it. Bork bork bork!
