Beowulf
« on: August 05, 2007, 05:55:30 pm »
Ok, I heard about this movie on G4's coverage of comic-con. I read in 6th grade an abridged portion of it (where he kills Grendel) and I think this movie is gonna be awesome!

Anyone have any other info on it?

Yes I do.

They are going to totally butcher the storyline, making Beowulf a macho guy that doesn't care about wrong and right, and they may even add other enemies besides grendel and grendel's mother.  They are going to change it from an awesome story with a guy who is powerful because he is so noble, and his fight against a monster that is almost impossible to beat, to a b action movie with no other reason than to show a guy in a viking helmet hit things.

In order to make the movie truer to the original epic.

*Spoilers*

I just hope they have him fighting the dragon, perhaps as the dramatic ending. It may not have been as important as his fight with Grendel or it's Mother (although Beowulf did die from it), but it would definitely make for a great scene.

I am still not sure if I have read Beowulf in Danish. Some of the elements seem familiar but I am not sure.

Predator was based on Beowulf. (The main hero and his crew fighting against an invisible creature that takes them out slowly; The main hero eventually defeats the monster with more primitive weapons then he is used to)

*spoilers*

Well that was a waste of ten bucks. the plot was as thin as paper (and I hear they made a mockery of the actual epic), the CGI was kinda odd, like it was done for the sake of it, and there were several inaccuracies that could have been avoided.

Actually, I think there was slightly more to the plot of the movie than the original story.

Its a centuries old superhero story. What were you expecting, Memento?

Despite expecting it to suck, I actually quite enjoyed Beowulf despite myself. Its not exactly the best film ever, but it had a certain something, and it was good fun while it lasted.

I think the "something" that Krakow refers too is several gore-drenched eponymous exclamations.

That, and Angelina Jolie.  :-*
