Famous influential cultural creations - RP small project.
« on: August 02, 2007, 12:12:51 pm »
Famous galactic books, tales, songs, movies, plays, paintings, products and every such you can think of!

Project related:
I Just had an idea for a new small project that will expand our nice RP universe and give it new depths. Our universe has been through many ages and in fact personal racial culture is a very rare thing mainly in the age of unions and alliances. This thread will host and therefore here you can post famous influential or known books, tales, songs, movies, plays and such cultural works of art that were based or created in this galactic times. Write a small description of the cultural work you present, a little bit information about its creation and creator, and the time it was written it. Hope this shall go well.

Hopefully this could help all of the community’s users when they look for cultural references that could be made by characters in this universe.

My own example:
The journals of Gadiro the Thoon:
Written at: The Labor Age, the cold Urshan war.
Written by: Gadiro the Thoon, journalist and councilor of the Thoon council.
Description: This trilogy is in fact the journals and dairies of the famous Thoon reporter, Gadiro the Thoon, who was the first Thoon who met alien life when he was abducted by the Urshans at the meeting of the races. Barely edited, and solely by Gadiro itself these journals became one of the most famous books in the days it was written mainly by Thoons but also all around the related races. Though it is considered quite unfriendly for the common reader this book passed the test of time and stayed a rather famous book for the personal experience and the readers easily related to it. To this day this book is a very basic and well-known book in many xeno-sciences such as xeno-psychology and xeno-social sciences. The book ends a few years after Gadiro was appointed to become a council member of the new Thoon government. One of the juiciest parts in the book are Gadiro’s affairs with the Urshan scientist Liana though it seems many details were deleted later by the author, including the fate of their relations.

The Works of Arika Mei Wu
Wriiten At: Ancient Banaqaq, during Arika Mei Wu's failed attempt at unfication.
Written By: Arika Mei Wu
Description: A selection of 57 philosophical books. They offer wisdom on such subjects as politics, love, society, war, individualism, revolution, family, work and education. The philsophy is written in a variety of ways; some is in poetry, some metaphorical novels, some as plays and some in plain, explainatory prose. Because of this, there are many debates as to the exact meaning of many parts of the selection. Anybody who you hear quote Arika Mei Wu would be quoting from these books. They are famous for influencing prominent political figures ranging from  Tyruk Bachiad I to Marta Keruul to Cortan Tesilia to Doge Astariba Telmariel. The views put forward are generally pro-Liberalist, pro-Individualism, pro-existenialist and Atheist. The anti-dhulam verses have made they books a subject of some controversy, and many religious leaders have tried to have them destroyed. Despite this, the books have survived, and are common works in most households.

Casmut Tsull: The Leader, The Legend, The Legacy.
Written at: Following the defeat of Casmut Tsull.
Written by: NeoTsullists, exact author unknown.
Description: This work is an opera detailing the entire life of Casmut Tsull. Many attempts have been made to make performance illegal, but the opera has endured because it is known to be highly dramatic and entertaining. While the original was in a pro-Tsullist light, most version performed in modern times have a final scene added in which the spirit of Tsull meets notable figures from Auyuelcliadic history, such as Niaru Shanta, Maunaq and Arika Mei Wu. These figures cuase him to repent what he has done, and wish to change his ways. The Unspoken allow him another life, and the opera ends. The opera is highly dramatic and seldom realistic, and has common use of juxtapose and similar cinematic techniques to make the opera less down-to-earth and more dramatised.

(OOC: good idea Biocat... Arika Mei Wu Rocks by the way!)

The Axon Chronicles.
Written at: The end of the REDSTAR Revolution.
Written by: The reporters of the WNN; Wexxian News Network. Based on eye witness accounts and interviews with the sons of Axon.
Description: Describing the life of the legendary Reclaimer. All Wexxians know the story, but there are many myths and fictional stories about Axon’s life. Realising this… a few Wexxian reporters decided to gather all the facts and publish them so other species can learn about the real Axon; his faults and his dark sides as well as his great achievements. Some members of the Wexxian High Council protested that it soiled the memory of the Reclaimer, but the Monarch at the time; Elixe, son of Axon, said that it would have been what his father would have wanted… a true picture of a extraordinary individual.
The book is popular reading among many types of readers around the galaxy; historians, who want a true picture of a character, Torpals and other people who enjoy violence and action, politicians who would like to learn from other leaders, those who enjoy reading about personal development and also all those who just enjoy a good story.

Anthology of a Galaxy
Written at: A running work written over the last 9,000 years
Written by: Dal'ge, collected and organised by Likal Sapin
Description: An account of the wars, alliances, and other events the Dei'gen Dal'ge experienced during her lifetime outside Thean Space. Contains information on the state of many of the Galaxy's races over the last nine mellenia. As they are written by an outside party, the descriptions are accurate in that they haven't been altered to favor one side or another. After the author returned to the Dei'gen homeworld, she entered all the information she had collected into the Core. Unfortunately, she quickly died of a terminal disease afterward. The Dei'gen government, unsure of what to do with the information, gave it to the Theans, who, in turn, handed it over in book form ot the outside Galaxy, figuring that since it was mostly about them, they should have it. A useful text for any historian, dispite having a few centuries missing from the timeline.

The Journal of Iniros Olus
Written at: Unknown
Written by: Unknown
Description: An unusual manuscript found on a desolate world in Thean space, it took several years to properly translate. When they did, they found it to be an account of a member of a nearly destroyed and opressed race struggling to survive and find somewhere to belong without hiding who he was. Thought to be fictional, due to the fact that none of the races described in the journal match those of the Galaxy. Still, they find it to be a compelling story and enjoy it as one of their great works. A planet on the edge of the xenophobic Areli Empire has been destroyed, only a handful of it's inhabitants escaping alive, including the fictional author. Using his unusual ability to mimic other life forms, he searches for a home where he does not have to hide his true nature. During this search, de discovers the plans for a huge invasion and now must stop the Empire from destroying other worlds, including one that, if removed, would shatter the fabric of space and time...

The Story
Written by: The entire Florauna population, compiled by Conditor
Written at: From the beginning of civilization to the modern day
Description: A record of everything that has happened to and within the Florauna civilization since it's beginning. Perfect for the anthropologist of the family, this normally enormous volume has been condenced by removing all but the most important events. Also holds appeal for those who like epic stories or history.

(I posted this before in my main creature thread!)

Famous Plays:

Nihiili Thunder
Created in SGY (Stand Galactic Year) 803, this play is about a young widow who's husband died in a sea storm, and must learn to cope with her new life as the mother of six children, who she must teach both the female and male aspects of life. She also discovers that she has become infertile, a disgrace amongst the Nihiili, who at the time believed it was punishment by Juna for adultery. She is innocent, and a High Priest proves this. The High Priest falls in love with her and they marry. She becomes the first Queen of a fictional land.

Damaán's Sun Dance
Damaán is a young woman who believes she is destined to become the Chancellor-Emperor's new wife. She dresses up as Juna Seductrii, one of the three embodiments of the Mother God. Eventually, the Chancellor-Emperor of Ulinium invites her into his home, and they engage in making love to one another. He however, rejects her as a wife. She becomes pregnant with a child, whom she teaches that he is the true heir of the semi-democratically chosen position. In another part of the play, her son confronts his father, who becomes enraged and tries to attack the boy. The boy, who is now 17, in an act of self-defence, stabs his father, and usurps the throne. His reign is celebrated by all who have seen him. Meanwhile, Damaán has emigrated to Mairton, where she hears of this. Infuriated, she spends every sunrise dancing to the sound of the trees growing, hoping to curse him for his deeds. They meet one another after many years, where they decide to commit suicide.

A Galactic Engagement
This play takes place in a more recent time period, and takes place in the days before the Union, when the Yunimius were handing out nobles as brides to many alien species. In this play, a fictional Damiihi princess gets engaged to the Crown Prince of Auyuelciadia, a position which at the time didn't exist. It is a highly romanticised version of the true engagement between Nihiili nobles and the Imperators of the Forthi.

The Kratairian Encyclopedia
Written at: Compiled not long after the destruction of Kratota, segments created by countless artists since the beginning of recorded time fopr the Kratair
Written by: Many
Description: Over the ages, one thing about the Kratair has always remaind a constant.  Their records.  The Kratair are meticulous note takers and over all of their recorded time, which goes right back to the dawn of sapience.  The encyclopedia is a compilation of all these records, which have been meticulously maintaintained.  It contains every bit of knowledge the Kratair possess and as such, is accessable only to Kratair and those with explicit permission.  It's sheer magnitude makes it impossible to ever take physical form, and as such, it exists only as a giant supercomputer on the Kratairian Capital Ship.  It holds information ranging from technology, to theories, to how much rain fell in 3107 A.D. (After Dating), to the alphabette, to how many spears were crafted by the village blacksmith.  Any information, that ever existed in the hands of the Kratair, is in that encyclopedia.  It is constantly added to.

The Song
Written at: The OldForest University of Sound and Music
Written by: Baeoine Gairne, Son of Fenigae
Description: The most touching song in the history of time (look it up in The Universe, A History of), but also the longest. A mere fragment of the song acts as the Interspace Anthem of various races, as it has actually been related to the molecular pulls and pushes (they are pulled by angels, according to various scholars) that is a creature's soul. No single creature actually knows the entire song, but if they did, they would know the meaning of life, and how it all began.

Nah, there are diffences.  Yours goes over the entire universe in a decent amount of detail.  Mine goes over anything that had to do with the Kratair in mindblowing, riddiculous ammounts of detail.

Torsa Torsa N'ya
Written at - 0 GGM1 (Great Galactic Migration 1)
Written by - Torsa Sorsor Tisaar
Description - In a practically forgotten language that a former Omic empire spoke, an Omic woman named Torsa wrote a series of books, which is an account of the expansion of the former Omic sun, the red giant Hidric. Then comes the story about how they were all loaded onto ships and watched the planet they came from crumble in the heat. How she and most of the Omic race experienced space travel for the first time. She wrote of her sights, and how she overcome the boredom she experienced in the gigantic migration ships. She wrote it in the language she had studied in her home planet, because only she and her colleagues could translate it.

A Collection of Accounts of the Civilians of the Great State of Omicronopolis and All Allied States (Formal title)
Written at - 6540 BGGM1 - Today
Written by - Almost every Omic since it began.
Description - In Omic culture, it is normal, almost manners, to keep a diary. Upon death it is uploaded into a huge mainframe that can be accessed by anyone. It has helped immensely in every aspect of Omic life. In modern times   a diary entry can be added by thinking it - An Omic is clipped to their "diary" (which is now basically just a mini hard drive in the computer that stores it all) the minute they can talk. And when they die, the link dies and the writings are instantly added into the mainframe. It is estimated that there are well over 500 billion entries today. However Omic lives are 4 times shorter then ours.
No way dude, you're trolling me.

Why We Love Him
Written: WGY 1
Author: The Walking God
Description: This 3 million year old video file is the first images and sounds that a baby Communicant hears, and tells of the dramatic tales and exploits of the Walking God. Most of the tales may or may not be true, since it is unlikely that the Walking God punched Old Tsii to pieces in his anger, or that he wrestled a black hole into submission, but it remains the all-time best seller in Communicant history. It purportedly has 110% of the watcher-base as fans, as the data file itself claims.

The Tree Faller
Written: 172 I.A.
Author: Armithrius the Staggering
Description: A recipe for what could be the most powerful alcoholic beverage ever known. It's fumes are enough to knock a small creature cold for several days, and the drink itself could be used as passable starship fuel. Armithrius himself said that he only made it once, but foolishly drank it while in his treetop home. He came up with a name for it shortly after the consequences.
